Blackburn vs Manchester United

This is the day ferguson has been waiting for 25 years.

Is it fair to say we're about to knock them well and trully the their perch or was that done long ago?

I'm pretty sure that actually surpassing Liverpool's league title haul was the furthest thing from Fergie's mind at that time. "Knocking Liverpool off their perch" was all about becoming the dominant force in the country, something that was achieved by 1994.

I'm sure he said the 'knocking Liverpool off their perch' stuff in around 2001 when asked a question by a journo and not when he first came to OT

I don't know when it was, but someone asked him if what was happening at the time was his biggest challenge, he said his biggest challenge was knocking Liverpool of their fecking perch, (and you can print that), whenever it was he was talking in the past tense, as though he had already achieved it.

But he probably wanted to do it since his first day at United.

Yep. With Alan Hansen, wasn't it?

He certainly did it by then. No way was he thinking about having more titles than Liverpool overall. He couldn't know that the titles we didn't win would be taken by Chelsea, Arsenal and Blackburn rather than Liverpool.

This. I can't believe there's still any doubt over this, 8-10 years later, with it perhaps being Fergie's most famous quote.

And Ferguson, when everything is said and done, loves to see Liverpool hanging on United's coat-tails. In September 2002, he was interviewed by this newspaper after United had lost two of their opening six league games and Alan Hansen had described Ferguson's position as "the greatest challenge of his career". Ferguson has always resented the fact there are so many ex-Liverpool players on the Match of the Day sofa. "My greatest challenge is not what's happening at the moment," he said, "my greatest challenge was knocking Liverpool right off their fecking perch."

Yes Amir, Hansen it was

Good team. Evans at LB again?

Kus, Fabio, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evans, Valencia, Carrick, Giggs, nani, Rooney, Hernandez,

Hope it's nothing serious with Evra.

Strongest team with van der Sar rested (as we were told at Fergie's press conference yesterday) and injuried Evra.

Good.

I expect a nice smashing today.

That's a lot stronger than I expected, doesn't look like Fletcher will make it to Wembley though.

Amos, Evra, Smalling, Scholes, Anderson, Owen and Berbatov.

Fletcher will get half the game today, the whole of Blackpool and some of the testimonial match. Fletch will most likely be bench for CL.

Today we can make history. come on.
