Bolton Wanderers v Manchester United

If he is fit, and it sounds like it, he should be up there leading the line. I know that we have important matches with Bayern and Chelsea but every match at this stage is key and there is no reason to curb his enthusiasm for playing and scoring goals. The fire the lad has is admirable. I have a feeling he will come out and play on one leg if he has to.

Give it to Bolton both guns blazing, start with both Rooney and Berba, score a couple of early goals and give him a rest then.

I also think that he definitely wants to try and beat Ronaldo's goal tally and will do everything possible to play in every match and get on the score sheet.

if he has recovered from his knee problem and is fit to play, i'd expect him to be on the bench

if there is no problem, like fergie says , i still wouldnt be surprised if he was on the bench

When did everyone suddenly start thinking that Bolton is a notoriously difficult fixture?

Probably because of our record against them at their place:

P56 W17 D14 L25

This means we fail to get maximum points approximately two out of every three times this fixture is played.

This is, obviously, a concern.

EDIT: That's all league matches. Record in the PL not quite so worrying

P10 W6 D3 L1

Still not great though, dropping points almost every second time we play them.

Yeah come on though - we really need only have a look at the PL era. From my recollection, we have trounced them by 4 goals on a number of occasions over the years. Granted, there has been the odd bad result there, but meh. This one doesn't fill me with trepidation.

I want the same team that beat Liverpool only Berb instead of Park. This is the team I´ll think play though

PIG? VDS doesn't need a rest. And if you think he needs to be protected for the Bayern game, then you are basically saying that the Prem is 2nd priority? VDS should play ALL games from now until the end of the season. Every game from now on is critical, or haven't you looked at the table at the moment?

Wayne Rooney has been declared fit by Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson ahead of their pivotal Premier League clash with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

Media reports in the week suggested the hitman could be ruled out with a knee problem, but Ferguson insists he is fully fit to take part.

Veteran pair Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs could also feature after shaking off their injury concerns in the north west derby.

Speaking to the club's official website, Ferguson said: "Wayne is fit and there's nothing wrong with his knee.

"Scholes is okay again after an ankle knock and Ryan is a further week on with his training.

"Whether I start him or not is another matter. But his and Scholes' experience is invaluable at this time of year."

Edwin would be playing three in a week otherwise, would you rather Van der Sar be rested for the Chelsea game instead? :wenger:

How are Bolton actually playing under Coyle now? I know results have picked up slightly, but are they still lumping it?

They definitely have ball players, Jack Wilshere, Lee Chung-Yong, Fabrice Muamba, Vladimir Weiss so I don't think it is route one.

I would much, much, much rather win this than against Bayern on Tuesday. No comparison for me.

SAF talked about this in his press conference. He did say they still have the big guys up front in Davies and Elmander and with their free kicks, corners, long throws - they still are the same Bolton. That it will take time for them to change their style.

I think they maybe are trying to play more on the ground but, push comes to shove, they go with their strengths.

With the form Vida is in - if they play long ball, I fancy him along with Rio to mop up.

Since when was Bolton a Derby match for us?

I have no idea what the team will look like. I'd rest Park, Scholes, Valencia or Nani perhaps, depending on who will feature at Bayern.

That means, Giggs would play on the left, most likely, with Carrick and Fletch in the middle. Now, if Scholes is to start, I'd like to see him play next to Fletcher. So Carrick out or in as a sub.

I can't imagine, the troubles the opposition managers go through, when trying to guess our starting XI and chose their tactics

To guess the most likely team for this one you probably have to look about 3 games ahead. A bit of a guessing game but i can see it being the following:

Bolton A - Nani...Carrick...Scholes...Giggs...Rooney...Berbatov

Can see Valencia, Fletcher and Park having big parts to play in the following 3 fixtures so wouldn't be surprised if they sat this one out.

Munich A - Valencia...Fletcher...Carrick...Scholes...Park...Rooney
Chelsea H - Valencia...Fletcher...Carrick...Park...Nani...Rooney
Munich H - Valencia...Fletcher...Scholes...Park...Nani...Rooney

Think we should win comfortably enough although Coyle seems to have a pretty good record as a home manager. Still, we should have too much quality for them and have had all week to prepare.

that was referring to the Liverpool game!

''Veteran pair Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs could also feature after shaking off their injury concerns in the north west derby''

Depends how you read it, there may be a punctuation issue here.

Veteran pair Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs could also feature, after shaking off their injury concerns, in the north west derby

Suggets this is the Derby.

Suggests Liverpool was the Derby.

But which is it? :wenger:

Hopefully United get an early goal, it will make the tie much easier.

You just know it's gonna be one of those bitches of a game where nothing is easy and it will take it out of players and fans alike

Correct.

Both came on against Liverpool, so I guess they shook their injuries off in that match...

"After shaking off injury" would suggest the game has been played, therefore the Liverpool game.

Also, with the punctuation issue, I thought it was fine.

And it's also acceptable to call it a NW derby, as both teams are from the NW.

Play Rooney every game, he's young and should cope. I could play every day!

Lets not feck about at this stage of the season, espically considering how close it is at the top.

We need our best 11 out there and then deal with whatever injuries come our way. Park is a certain starter in Munich, so he's the only player imo who won't start today. Valencia/Nani/Rooney to start and then 3 midfielders. Sorry Berbatov, you'll have to deal with being a sub for the next few games.

I'd definitely play Berbatov today. He has been excellent recently. Yeah, he wont play against Bayern or Chelsea but against Bolton he can help tear them apart.

It's good to see we've come to the stage where people say "we have to rest Park for...."
Goes to show how big strides he's been making, especially considering "should Park be on the bench" was what was saying not so long ago.
