I don't know if I should feel sorry for him because he's old or think it's hilarious because he's still a Brexit wanker that's adversely affecting me, my family, and everyone I know. It's those with the real influence that should get the brunt of it mind. That said, I also smell a hint of bullshit.
Calling the election was a sound move to increase both the party's term and majority, given the polling at the time. Obviously no-one foresaw that it would end up being one of the most atrociously run election campaigns in world political history. I take your point on the sheer consistency of ineptitude, inability to listen and stubbornness to the point of absurdity.
Cameron had some redeeming features as a leader in that he could think on his feet, come up with a witty riposte and deliver a three hour speech without notes. Agree fully on the complete lack of personal conviction or belief, he went with the prevailing wind, and as has been seen, this led to little forward planning or second thought given to unintended consequences.
I need to pop out and don't have the time needed to detail May's myriad failings. My word the last nine years has been a new low for UK politics, on both sides of the chamber too.

You are generalising, maybe because he is old, how do you know know his opinions are based on nationalism and garbage? Unless you think it impossible anyone can believe in Brexit without this being the case?
If that is the case I would say get out and speak to more people, there are good ideas on both sides of the debate. People on both sides passionately believe that they are doing the best thing for the country.
I don't believe that anyone can believe in Brexit without that being the case, but I do think it's the case with the vast vast majority. And I think the minority that have chosen Brexit for other reasons aren't weighing things up very well at all.

Some fairly prescient people did point out at the time though that even when she was 20 points up, her lead was still more tenuous than people had given it credit for - if Labour cut even cut that down to 7/8 points, then the Tories were going to be on a fairly slim majority as was the case in 2015. And a sudden election campaign was always going to lead to certain fluctuations.
If you think 71 year olds attitude is "oh well I'll be dead soon, who cares" then that's just as ridiculous.

Older people have a lot of life experience youngsters lack, but that doesn't necessarily mean they know more about what's best for the country politically - an 85-year-old for example probably knows feck all about government plans for the tech sector. Which is fair enough, because they're retired, and don't need to worry about that sort of stuff anymore. But the idea older people are automatically more informed than younger generations is a myth.
Although anyone wanting to deny older people the vote is equally suspect.

Very much agree, there seem to be a lot of posters in this thread with a lot of anger and an absence of compassion. Most older people I know care deeply about their family and the world they will one day leave behind. I'm really worried about current political discourse, we need more people willing to listen.

Same here, the LibDems are a bunch of shithouse chancers and I guess that also holds true for the EU elections, but it seem the best option for this vote.

I am in my late 60's but very much care about the spectre of Climate Change.
I have 4 young grandchildren who (I hope) will be alive into the next century.
Frankly I am embarassed that my generation knows all about the risks of CC but is choosing to ignore it.
They will be the ones who can and will ask:

My grand parents never talked politics with myself or my sister. The odd comment here and there but no real open discussions. I thought it was just my weird family but happens to be a common theme with all of my friends. I would like to be proven wrong, but discussing politics seems to have this stigma attached to it. Unfortunately neither of my grand parents are alive now to ask them their views on Brexit and it's my biggest regret not to ask them more about their lives when they were younger, mainly because of the fear of bringing up WW2 due to my grandfather being a war prisoner and I never wanted to upset them but now i'm older I wish I had.
I assume this means you've talked to people who've discussed Brexit with their Grandkids then?

Voted Lib Dem, again. Feel a bit guilty at not looking into the Greens a bit more, but when I did some years ago they appeared to be batshit mental. Although some of their ideas then might seem a bit more rational now after all. Oh well, maybe next time.
