That was one of the expected Benefits of the Brexit for the EU. Another one is that the financial regulations are now being decided in Paris and not London anymore.
But, in sum it is still terrible for the EU that one of the main architects of the EU has left the club.

Yes, it’s not sustainable in the long term and yet any “special status” like in the past is out of discussion (for good, in normal circumstances) whenever the discussion to re-join the single market will start in some form.

Wouldn't the solution be to rejoin the EU?

It would but it's not going to happen for decades.
Neither the Tories or Labour want freedom of movement.
As predicted before the referendum it's an inevitable decline of British industry and the economy. Now it's too late for the near future.

Until both parties recognise that Brexit is a huge mistake then it will only get worse. Eventually they may start to move back towards the EU but it will take a long time.

I am curious, what is the current opinion of the majority of people in Britain? Are they still against "freedom of movement"? And if yes, why?

And are they only against the freedom of movement of EU citizens, or about everyone (Africans, Asians, South Americans etc).

I don't know. Immigration into the UK is extremely high at present but not from the EU.

They seem to think what the tabloid press tell them to think. Current focus is on asylum seekers in boats.

Part of the problem is that a lot of people won''t distinguish between legal and illegal immigration

Yes, I said that in some of my earlier posts. Legal immigrants, illegal immigrants and asylum seekers/refugees are all put into one pot. Furthermore, over recent years, the focus has been on legal immigrants from the EU, the Windrush generation, the refugees and asylum seekers. Oddly no focus on the real illegal immigrants who overstay their tourist visas and live clandestinely working on the black.

The pubs and bars in London would have to close down, the biggest group of people who overstay their visas in the UK are from Australia and New Zealand - in the US it's Canadians, all that fuss about the US southern border, it's the northern one that's the problem!

Maybe young talented people want to go to a country where there are more options, more diversity and which hasn’t triggered a “brexit” sending their own country to the dogs
Probably it's more likely they can actually afford to live in those places

Coming from the guy who made sure his family received German passports the day after the referendum result was announced.

Also, the last thing we need to worry about is speculative traders who make bank from disaster capitalism moving to fancy apartments in Milan. Much more pressing concerns to be addressed thanks to the likes of him.

Business minister boasted Britishvolt was Brexit success story months before collapse

“The UK is one of the best locations in the world for automotive manufacturing, and we want to ensure the best outcome for the site."

Why? Because you're isolated from the world and have so many trade barriers now!?

I was wondering when you would comment about this. And you didn't disappoint.

Unfortunately Mr Lammy , your boss and the rest of your colleagues don't seem to understand what the problems are and why there are problems, and haven't done since before the referendum. After nearly seven years or even during the decades before the referendum, you would have thought there would be a vague understanding.

Your enemies, the Tories, seem to have more of a grip of what the problems are but are determined to make sure the problems get worse.

Lose lose situation.

We're touting for business at Phnom Penh airport. 'World class transport infrastructure'...when there's no strikes.

Odd the branding is Great Britain and Northern Ireland, rather than the United Kingdom of.

Emphasis on Great , apart from anything else , NI is part of the EU CU. All these FTA's, where are they and what do they matter to the country you're trying to impress. Seems to be written by a 5 year old.

A couple more Brexit bangers...

Brexit: UK construction costs ‘have risen much more steeply than EU’
Cost of labour in Britain up by 30% since referendum, double rise in some EU countries, research finds

Eurostar trains forced to run with empty seats due to Brexit passport rules

About 350 out of 900 seats normally left unsold on the first services between London, Paris and Brussels

My mum is sulking because they're having to get rid of her Jag XK8 for something like a Fiesta or a Clio, and she's a bit of a snob.

My mum wants a British car made by British people. So I pointed out that neither of those are made in Britain, and that she's also remarked on how much she and especially my dad hate the French (but will gladly go on wine tours to Bordeaux and not say a peep to the French people there about how much they hate them. They've just got back from Scotland which I find strange as there's rarely a day goes by that I don't hear either of them saying how much they hate the Scottish), so it wouldn't make sense to give Ford or Renault their money if they wanted to stick to their 'principles'.

When I pointed out that aside from stuff like Astons and Rolls Royce you're stuck with a Nissan Note or a Corolla she said she didn't want something that was Japanese...

She was gonna order a new XE from Jaguar until they cancelled her order, admittedly they're made in Britain but owned by the famously British TATA Motors.

Then said that she'd be happy with her old Alfa MiTo back...you know the one made in Turin, East Midlands?

This is the same woman that said she couldn't go and buy British strawberries from the farm shop because of the EU and refused to get any from the Netherlands or wherever Asda/Tesco/M&S get them from and flat out refused to come with me when I offered to take her to the local farm shop to see if we could get some strawberries.

Wants to fly the flag for Brexit Britain but when it directly affects her, she bitches and moans.

I would have so much fun poking my parents if that would be my case. Hope you are having lots of fun with the banter. At last one Brexit positive thing

I usually get a jibe in every day at my mum but I am mindful that if we start arguing it never ends well so it's only light hearted. Don't speak to my dad despite being in the same house.

Don't tell her that BMW own Rolls Royce and a Canadian owns Aston Martin.

No offense but your mum sounds like a cnut. No offense.
