Bundesliga 2015/2016

And yet, Bayern seems to find interesting young talents for relatively small sums of money.

What? Do you think a player like Coman would've moved to Schalke? And a loan fee of €7m for a 19 year old might be very reasonable for a club with Bayern's ressources, but I don't think Schalke would feel the same about that.

Yes, but I didn't mean they should go all out like Bayern can. I meant I don't buy that there's no one available for them that could help them. On a budget appropriate for their wallet. It's not all just either 3 or 30 million, there's got to be something useful in between.

Gladbach vs Hamburg just started. Very important match for Gladbach. They need to pick up three points or they are in a serious crisis.
Gladbach has its experianced CBs back, which should give them a huge boost. Drmic just on the bench. Xhaka is suspended.

Are Gladbach basically last years Dortmund then?

No, we did not start that poorly and the real problems surfaced later.

Hamburg actually playing decent football, Gladbach hurts to watch at the moment.

3:0. Gladbach are in deep trouble.

Thanks, my memory was a little hazy and I was sure you struggled from the start.

the main difference is that Dortmund is and was the undisputed Nr.2 in German football. Klopp´s methods simply wore off after years of coaching. The bad season was the "anomaly". Gladbach on the other hand punched over their weight last season and lost two of their best players. The also had their fair share of injuries at the beginning of the season and are now struggling to find form. Still even if things go well CL wouldn´t be a given.

I really don't get how Gladbach can be that bad. They were such a well drilled, brilliantly organised team. They're a fecking mess so far this season.

Aside of different squad strengths (Gladbach were pretty lucky in terms of injuries last season aswell) I think the biggest difference is that our crisis was at least until November or so more a result crisis rather than just based on purely performances. We lost games back then (Cologne, Frankfurt, Hanover, etc.), where we actually were the better team. Yes, we conceaded some of the most idiotic goals in history, but we still always had more of the game in terms of chances.

It was not until the psychological downward spiral was really spinning that we turned to shit in terms of performances aswell.

Three of the losses of Gladbach (including this one) so far are utterly deserved. They really look like us at the worst point in that season already.

This looks really worrying for Gladbach and the really hard weeks have not even started.

Has the exits of Kruse and especially Kramer affected them so much?

They have, but the whole team hasn't responded well. For example Xhaka, who isn't playing tonight, has started the season poorly by his standards last season.

Cheers man. Hopefully Favre will manage to turn things around as it'd be shit to see him sacked after all he's done for this Gladbach team.

Catastrophic start to the season though.

Games starting in about an hour:

Leverkusen - Darmstadt
Bayern - Augsburg
Hannover - Dortmund
Hertha - Stuttgart
Ingolstadt - Wolfsburg

Bayern's line-up: Neuer - Thiago, Lewandowski, Costa, Rafinha, Alonso, Boateng, Lahm (K), Vidal, Müller, Alaba

Boateng returns after his suspension. Götze isn't in the squad because he has a few mascular problems and the club doesn't want to take any risks. Ribery's still injured and Robben joined him . No idea how Pep has them lined-up, maybe a classic Cruyff 3-4-3:

Costa - Lewandowski - Müller
Thiago
Vidal ------ Lahm
Alonso
Alaba - Boateng - Rafinha
Neuer
Dortmund: Bürki, Ginter, Sokratis, Hummels, Schmelzer, Weigl, Gündogan, Kagawa, Hofmann, Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang

Hofmann comes in for Reus, who's still out with his broken toe. Januzaj is on the bench.

Is subotic still injured? I thought piczszek was dortmunds first choice right back.
Sokratis is the first choice centerback next to Hummels, if I'm not mistaken. Subotic is on the bench. Piczszek is injured, isn't he? He hasn't played well in quite a while though and Ginter looked pretty good at rightback in the last few games and deserves to start for now.

If you look at all the matches until now - plus preparations - it would look like this. Pep does not want Müller on the wing.

Costa - Lewandowski - Lahm
Müller
Thiago ------ Vidal
Alonso
Alaba - Boateng - Rafinha
Neuer

Ahh thanks, I thought sokratis was only being preferred as subotic wasn't fit.

I thought that as well at first, but I don't think it'll be that symetrical anyway. In my line-up, both Lewandowski and Müller could play central with Rafinha more attacking and Lahm playing as a wide midfielder in a diamond. It'll look more like:

----Lewa - Müller ----
Costa - Thiago ---Lahm
-------Vidal-----------
--------Alonso--------
Alaba-Boateng-Rafinha

Dante, Draxler give their debut for Wolfsburg, Schürrle also starts.

Dost
Schürrle - Draxler - Caligiuri
Gustavo - Guilavogui
Rodriguez - Dante - Naldo - Träsch
Benaglio

Bench: Grün - Bendtner, Schäfer, Klose, Kruse, Jung, Arnold

Is Vierinha injured or suspended?

Fecking injuries. We need Reus today but he's not on the bench.

Odd situation that Arnold has been given the cold shoulder given how well he was doing at DM. Gustavo is a quality player but I don't rate Guilavogui at all. Vierinha must be injured.

Leverkusen: Leno - Hilbert, Tah, Papadopoulos, Wendell - Kramer, Bender - Brandt, Bellarabi - Kießling, Calhanoglu
on the bench: Kresic, Donati, Boenisch, Ramalho, Kampl, Chicharito, Mehmedi

Happy to see Brandt start. Chicharito on the bench, might get his debut later today.

I still see Arnold as a more attacking central midfielder, not sure I like him in a midfield 2, especially with Draxler playing central as more of a 2nd striker and not really a 3rd midfielder. Arnold hasn't started the last 2 games either though, it's not really surprising that Hecking sticks with Gustavo and Guilavogui in midfield.

I don't rate Caligiuri, I'd argue they'd be better off with Draxler playing as an inside right and Arnold as a 3rd CM. Maybe that'll be an option if Vierinha at rightback. With Träsch, Calgiuri probably makes sense. But I really hope Arnold becomes a regular starter over the course of this season. He's 21 years old now, it's really time that he gets to play every week.

Arnold doesn't have enough goals in him to be starting as an attacking player tbh. I liked him playing as a DM, effective passing and spreading the ball with good tracking back.

Darmstadt take the lead in Leverkusen:

I hate when we play against fecking Augsburg . Really, even when we won, I hated the game. Ffs.
