I can't share your enthusiasm for Götze, he did f-all all game but for one nice moment. Understandable after a long sickie, mind ya, but i understand he has been in team training for weeks already. In his spell at Bayern, he had very, very few games where he gave the impression he might be an asset.
I liked Rodes performance, very underrated player. He rarely gets match time, but when he does, he is plain solid and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb, that in itself an achievement in that team of artists. I recon he would be well suited for the EPL as well.

Bremen were a disappointment - we have grown used to teams parking the pullman in the Allianz, but the better ones have at least a game plan how to be as much of a nuisance as possible. Werder didn't even achieve that, complete rubbish in defense and still less than naught in posession.

He had many good games before he got injured during the international break, and that's what gives me hope for Götze's future at Bayern. Granted, he has to replicate these great performances in the games left, but I've not given up on him.
I expect him to at least stay for another year to see how Ancelotti handles him.

Coman was sensational yesterday. He's already playing like a player worth much more than what we spent/will spend on him. Absolutely magnificent deal.

Dortmund XI
Bürki - Durm, Sokratis, Hummels, Schmelzer - Sahin - Castro, Kagawa - H. Mkhitaryan, Reus - Aubameyang

Mainz XI
Karius - Brosinski, Balogun, Bell, Bussmann - Baumgartlinger, F. Frei - Clemens, Malli, Jairo - Cordoba

Decent start, keeping BVB away from our goal so far.

Huge huge respect to the Dortmund and Mainz fans right now. Sad scenes in the stadium - two fans in the stand had a heart attack, one died, the other seems to be stable and on his way to the hospital.

Goosebump moments. The fan who died was 80 years old. It's very sad, but you can't ask for much more in live to die in the stands of the Südtribüne with your beloved football club in action.

R.I.P., Borusse; you never walk alone (damn autocorrection).

My friend and I flew from the UK and attended a Dortmund game for the first time today.

We were sat in South Stand and were absolutely revelling in the atmosphere during the first half. Never experienced anything like it. We had no idea what had happened, and were extremely puzzled as to why the atmosphere shifted so dramatically in the second half. Reading about the sad news now. So much respect for the manner in which the fans conducted themselves for the duration of the game.

His contract ends after next season.
So how do you expect him to just stay another year 'to see'..? There's no time 'to see' what happens anymore.
We payed a lot for him, and overall he was much too mediocre to let him leave on a free and not feel like the whole thing was a huge waste of time and money.

Let's just face it, he very likely has no future at Bayern.
Else he would have long since been offered an extension. To me it very much seems like the club has decided his contributions, however decent at times, are not worth the wages.

I mean if Ancelotti comes in and says he wants him, needs him, tells the board to extend the contract and persuades Götze to sign it, ok.

But with the competition Götze has now that all our attackers are fit, do you really see him getting into a regular starting spot?
He won't get it and he doesn't deserve it.

LEt's sell him to some gullible club for big money and be done with it.

Rudy, Hector, Podolski and Kramer have no reason to be in the team.

I also think it's too early to include Tah in the squad, he really struggled in recent weeks and should focus on the League. The media talking him into the team worked though. :wenger: At least there's no Huth...

half of the nominated players don't belong in the national team. Actually, from the defenders only Hummels and Mustafi earned their spot. Tah is still really young so that's ok but the rest imho aren't good enough. I don't even care anymore about Podolski, his nomination is inevitable, no matter where and how little he plays. How's his season by the way? Haven't heard anything from him since his slip up in the CL/EL(???).

He's doing well in Turkey but the Turkish League is simply awful so it's really no achievement. I'm not even someone who criticizes Löw usually but I simply can't wrap my head around him nominating someone like Rudy. The guy is having a bad season at Hoffenheim(!)...

Weird isn't it? Durms back to fitness so why not just use him as right back cover, Rudys not even played a single game at the back this season right?

Hector's been alright this season, in general, despite having a bit of a dip in form lately (but so did his team). Plus, it's not like he's got great competition. I agree about the rest. Same argument about Podolski applies for Gomez as well though.

This is obviously not a list of players selected on form.

Durm has been in very good shape since he's been back. Not sure why Löw didn't include him when he can play like 6 positions and we have two gaping holes at the FB positions.

I still firmly believe that Löw is a fraud and has been constantly saved by outside influences (injuries, mostly) that forced him to change his dreadful ideas back to something sensible. These squads are ridiculous and waste precious time for testing players like Kimmich or changing things up. Rudy is a joke, Podolski a 4 year farce.

With Schmelzer being done under Löw and Durm also not being considered we are basically being left with makeshift options or really mediocre fullbacks. Unless they can beg Lahm to come out of retirement for a last tournament (it´s ridicilous how dependend we were on a single player for a position for around a decade) or find Alaba a German grandmother, the best bet is to pray that Boateng recovers fully soon enough and that Hummels conserves his current form until the EURO. This partnership will have a huge job on their hands to carry that defense to enough stability to have a shot of winning the tournament.

I have no words for Schalke. They might actually stumble into the CL places with these kind of performances...

Takes a nice deflection but good to see him scoring the winner on his return from injury.

Germany seem to be making the same mistake Spain did at last world cup.

Entertaining game between Shalke and Gladbach, the latter play some of the silkiest football in Europe right now. Shalke's goals were both fluky, the first was like a 3 Stooges sketch, but both had good work from Sane. Lots of good talent on display but Dahoud really stood out, he uses the ball really well and is always probing, lots of potential.

But you aren't surprised, are you. That's how Löw has operated ever since he became NT head coach. He's not bothered by things like skills or performances.

Schalke in itself was a fluke. Terrible, terrible game from them. For the most part even worse than during the di Matteo spell, which is quite something. Unfortunately Christian Heidel is a too good DoF to not see what a joke of a head coach André Breitenreiter is and will replace him this summer.

exactly this!

hope they doesnt reach the cl spots, cause even if they will, heidel will replace breiti. its a pity, that they got a secret manual "playing like shit but winning anyhow" since years and get points in games like that against gladbach.
cause heidel will start to sort the mess out, every disadvantage would be good. no cl for schlacke please, they would get financial troubles and would need much longer to get to a "normal" level.

Who is he likely to go for?

Who is he likely to go for?

Weinzierl or Favre seem likely candidates, though I can't see the latter working out at Schalke if he already had problems at Gladbach. Heldt probably would've gone for Dirk Schuster

If he wants someone from the Bundesliga Markus Weinzierl is almost the only reasonable choice. I also wouldn´t be surprised to see someone, who isn´t well known yet. He had is biggest success with rather unorthodox choices - Klopp, Tuchel and Schmidt.

They were all already at the club before he promoted them to first team coach though, Klopp as a player, Tuchel and Schmidt as youth coaches. His outside hires actually weren't that great.

The environment at Schalke is toxic. Not sure if Heidel can fix it, but it'll be interesting to follow. If they can get Weinzeirl, it's a no brainer really. I wouldn't rule out Favre. Where else could he go? And if Heidel can protect him from all the drama, it might actually work for a few years. I'd like to see a strong Schalke side built on their incredible academy. It's just weird that they can't do anything with all that potential. They're the third richest club in the country with the best academy, yet their only success stories in the last decade were Neuer saving their ass and keeping them competitive while playing shit on a stick football. It's truely mind-boggling.
