Cards on the Table

I believe he'll leave and Jose will come in because the people running the club haven't got where they are by being incompetent baboons.

No point being negative (or realistic based on prior evidence in this case).

I live in hope that Mourinho is coming. I hope LVG retires after winning the FA Cup to go out with a minor plus.

And Giggs can appear on Jeremy Kyle for all I care.

I don't think there's any real need to be concerned. We're not mathematically out of the top 4 and have a cup final to play. It's hardly surprising nothing has happened. I would imagine we don't want to rock the boat, so we'll get both of those out of the way and move for Mourinho. If there's a broad agreement there it's just a matter of calling that in at a time that suits us. Albeit it's entirely possible we might view LVG winning the cup (if he does) as sufficient to keep him.

You are spot on I think. His utterances last night about we have too high expectations make a lot of sense in this context. He is clearly advocating the case that if he gets FA cup it's a title thus progress. Honestly you can't put it past the Glazers and Ed for swallowing that garbage b/c clearly they agree we need a 3 year transition period (which would be unacceptable for any other "biggest club in the world").

We've not really had a good meltdown in quite a while to be fair.

Only because of the blind faith that most have that LvG is gone after the FA Cup Final and Mourinho is coming in. If there is no announcement in the week following the FA Cup Final, expect some serious meltdowns.

But they think LVG is competent. I hope not but there is that possibility.

Who knows, whatever happens feck all on here will be happy about it.

I'm gonna build my own faulty nuclear facility right in front of Ed's office in London.

What do you think will happen at season's end?

Me, I've little faith in our board's proactivity so I think there'll be no announcement at all & LVG will just carry on (barring a 7th place/Cup Final loss disaster - then the board might feel pressurised to act). Hope I'm wrong...

You?
I agree.

A thoroughly depressing prospect.

I so want LVG gone, but I am resigned to him being here next season, and Giggs taking over afterwards. I think it'll be seriously damaging to the club.

I so very much hope I'm wrong, but I've heard nothing to convince me otherwise (and allegedly ITK cafe members don't count).

Wait, what? If LvG goes and Mourinho comes in, then the majority will definitely be happy; surely that's pretty obvious, no? Of course there will be a few like Twiggy and co that will be devastated, but meh, you win some, you lose some.

What I'm hoping for - (1) Jose and his own assistants in, without the burden of Neville/Giggs hanging around (2) We get a DOF - Mr Berta sounds extremely competent and I would love that to be true that he's coming here.

What I fear - the people in charge of the club will feck up with Mourinho. We go with LVG - even though it's hard for me to see them staying with him without top four which I'm very pessimistic about - and then a few months into the season, there's still no improvement. We watch our rivals making strides while we hang about mid-table. Us fans go berserk, the board sacks him in the middle of the season because the fall out is too great, and then we're stuck with Giggs because there will be no one like 'Klopp' available to take over.

Having said all of that - I haven't a feckin clue what's going to happen. I'll try and stay positive though...

Once top four is finalized and FA cup over I would expect some form of announcement. The Man Utd brand is all that matter to the money men who make decisions and luckily VG is ruining that so, despite any concrete news, I do expect him to leave.

VG to 'retire' to be with his family after being told he needs to leave. Giggs will go to Swansea. Mou to join.

LVG will announce his reticent effective immediately shortly after we win the FA Cup, he can go out with a little self respect and everyone's a winner.

Perfect!

This is a fact, which is why I'm so confused by all the mixed messages. Who out there is more box office than Jose at the moment that's available? No one that I can see. Therefore it just seems odd that we're messing around like this. I don't get it at all.

My gut feel is that Jose has already signed for us, and that the board will announce him a week or so before the FA Cup final so that LVG gets a decent send off, and if he wins the FA Cup game then the board will be under no pressure to keep him. LVG will say he wants to retire.

As time passes, I feel more and more like this, Shteve.
I was resigned to the same outcome as you and Steve a few months but the noise, reports and little hints ever since Mourinho became available, make me confident, for some reason, that Mourinho is coming.

LVG stays
Giggs officially announced as manager 2017/18
Mourinho goes to Everton or PSG

are the main bits of news we are going to get....

Otherwise, DDG will go. We'll announce a summer spend but in truth it will be underwhelming and won't significantly improve the squad
More youngsters will play next year and the likes of Rashford etc will come on, but over time they'll be LVGised and by 2017, we'll be 8th or 9th.

Woody will do nothing significant to change anything

Ye think? I seem to remember us all being pretty happy with LvGs appointment. That hasnt turned out too well has it.

But seriously with Mourinho. What will happen to these players?

Rashford, Martial, Lingard, Fosu-Mensah, CBJ, Varela, Pierera, Memphis.

If that happens we stand no chance of retaining DdG (and I quite frankly wouldn't blame him). I fear we'd lose all our promising youth prospects, no-one would want to join with LvG and Europa league footy … and the Adidas deal would be slashed (or they'll walk away more likely) as soon as no CL is mathematically impossible next season.

Well I'm pretty certain that nothing will happen regarding the manager position. Van Gaal will continue next season regardless of league position or FA cup failure.

I also think our spending will be quite reserved and De Gea will leave.

That's really a debate for another day if / when Mourinho doesn't give certain players a chance.

My point was more about the initial impact of LvG's potential departure / Mourinho's potential arrival; as in, I think around here, it will be met with mostly positivity.

Yep, I'm going with this exact scenario. Not sure why people expect an announcement if he is staying, anyway. If no briefing comes within a day or two of the FA Cup Final, it's another year of LvG.
But surely the club as a football entity and global organization would have put out a statement backing the manager and denying the Mourinho rumors a few months ago. We do have the marketing ploy to sell season tickets were Van Gaal is prominently featured which is hard to explain.
I would be astounded if we continue with Van Gaal. He is too volatile from a PR point of view and his style of football hasn't worked since the nineties. We are very lucky to be in the position we are, if everyone around us had a bit more consistancy we would be languishing around tenth.
You can get an idea of a person by observing their personal and professional life, both are certainly not mutually exclusive. If we continue with our current set up and then hand the reigns to a person who in his personal life is a serial cheater with no obvious regard for family and a seemingly non entity in his professional life, well, I will definately not spend a single penny on this club again.
Absolutely no way will next years league be as unpredictable as this. City will have Pep and drop another quarter of a billion this summer like last which no one seems to mention and when they do talk about spending its only a stick to beat us with. Wenger will have no choice to spend big this summer as I feel if he doesn't make a go of it it will be his final season. Klopp will sign a few players and will begin to mould his vision, expect a fight for top four. Spurs will keep everyone and fill a few gaps, like Liverpool will fight for top four. Chelsea will definitely improve, new manager new players and a more settled unit. Leicester, a tough one, I doubt they will finish anywhere near top six next season, even if they keep their star players they will definately not maintain a settled eleven, injury free. Every team will be gunning for them next year and they will be wound so tight an implosion is to be expected.
Now where does that leave United. We currently have a manager that struggles tactically against an organized side who alienates players with flair and the ability to change a game and is the laughing stock in the media. We currently have the Dutch Brentan Rogers and a guy with no experience in running a football club and no interest in managing unless it's this club. I understand a desicion should be announced at the best moment so as not to rock the boat but 98% of the people who support this club don't want to go forward with Van Gaal or Giggs. So forget about the interest of the club and think of the interest of the fans.
I can't wait for the cup final, it's been a long time coming but if we win it and an announcement of the appointment of Mourinho was made in the same day I know which one make me more happier.

I said long ago that he'd be sacked shortly after the season is out and I'm sticking by it.

Mourinho dont need English assistant, the guy has been here longer than most our squad, beating teams long before fergie retired, he even beat fergie to the title two times. I bet he knows more about our squad then van gaal + giggs + hoek + stuivenberg combined.

He doesn't need a giggs or neville to act as an intermediary with his players, the man is a top notch motivator, any half arsed under qualified personnel will only hinder his job
It's time we told The Cloud Of 92 to leave us alone for a while and let the club transition to something more in tune with the modern game. Butt aside they have not covered themselves in glory. I don't include Beckham because he is a different phenomenon, a fan of the club who has experienced the game in more detail than the others combined, always pretty sensible but doesn't have an agenda, which is important.

Mourinho will be our new manager. He is the only one who can combat the "pep" effect at City (not saying Pep will succeed) and Woody knows that. LvG will be fired after the cup final, was hoping for some humiliation for him, but looks like he will manage until the final.

I expect the same thing that is happening to them now but with a different mindset. Lingard will be a squad player at best but the future is bright for the others. I can see Mourinho coming in and concentrating on these players as his core just to stick a finger up to those that insist he has no interest in youth. He has never been at a club that values young players like us, although I think that's a myth in itself.

Christ, I thought that was an official announcement for a moment. Nearly had a tart attack*.

*Like a heart attack, only with added flouncing and melodrama.

If we by some miracle make top 4 I think LVG will stay and see out his contract.
If we fail to make top 4 I think he will be sacked and Mourinho will come in and take over.

BTW, I don't know how to bung a poll on this thread, sorry.

Im torn. My head says there is no way LVG will manage us next season. I always suspected Ed to be an Idiot of the highest caliber though. An Idiot with a talent of making money.
I expect 6th place finish and FA Cup win and continuation with LVG at the helm.

On the hand i think nobody can be stupid enough and pick a year of LVG crap football over potentially of 3-4 years of Jose in charge. I hope Ed isnt that stupid

Hopefully seeing it once in writing will soften the blow for when it really happens.

I fail to see why anyone in their right mind would think this board has even zero percent clue about how to run a top level world football club in terms of the actual fortunes on the pitch. Months going on years of awful decision making at the top, and zero consideration for the fans or their enjoyment of the footballing product, should be all any sane supporter needs to know about what is going to happen, especially given the most recent saga of ineptitude.

They will not act until we're staring relegation in the face sometime next season, when we've given LVG another 6-9 months to destroy this club further (like a crazed village idiot being handed a sack full of grenades and told to go practice catching the egg) Even then it will only be to give him a nice pat on the back into retirement in order to usher Giggs in.

I've already started researching how to get bulk deals on heart pills online
