Carrick so far...

Wishful thinking. For the first 30 minutes he was impressive. After that he slowly got worse, I couldn't wait for Fletchinho to be introduced.

Remember he has been injured. I don't think he's fully fit yet.

There are signs that he can be top class though.
if he wasnt fully fit, he wouldnt have played at all.

Fair to early to judge imo. I thought he was pretty good yesterday made some good passes and defencely he was good. Should get a better idea over the next few games

Nope. Totally agree with what you have said.

First half I was very impressed but I think he tired in the second half.

Showed some glimpses of his creativity. Defensively he was better than i expected, good tracking back and tackling. Needs some time to settle but i agree with MUFC. Looking forward for his CL debut.

He was good defensively, could have done more tackling though. Had a perfect mix for the first 30 minutes but became to catious later on.

Looks good, but he doesn't want the ball enough for me. Hopefully that will come.
disagree.

he moves in front of our centre halfs everytime we bring ball out of defence and he kept wandering behind giggs and besides ronaldo most of the time. he doesnt use his hands like keano, but he does demand the ball to be played to him by getting in the right positions to do so.

and that was comment for only the spurs game. first half.

I though he was good today, he got up and down well and made some telling defensive tackles. He will improve the weaker aspects of his game as every player thet comes here does.

far too early to tell.

he looked good against a spurs midfield lacking his own influence, lets see how he does against chelsea, liverpool or the best in europe.

the djemba twins were ok after 2 games.

I think there is a difference between Carrick and Djemba Djemba.
Carrick is proven as a quality player whereas Djembax2 was unknown, coming from a foreign a league. Carrick will be a class-act for us and yesterday he showed glimpses of that, as he broke up the play several times and made some Rooney-esque defence splitting passes.

Was very good yesterday. Much better defensively than I hoped. He got tired as the game went on but that was only the second time he's played more than 45 minutes of football since the end of last season. I would have forgiven a far worse performance, bearing in mind he's had no pre-season. When he gets match fit he will be different class. I think he's exactly the type of player we needed.

Agree 100%

I agree with PogueMahone. I cant believe people think he was average yesterday. He did tire as the game wore on and faded a little but otherwise he was superb. Especially in the first half. His passing was fabulous, he was a lot better defensively than i thought he would be. Won most of the 50 50s.. was strong in the air. Excellent home debut.

Very promising yesterday. Whoever said he didn't want the ball enough must have been watching on TV. He was always available and demanding the ball. Most of the play went through him in the first half. I think Spurs actually changed their formation and put Davids on him after about half an hour. A few passes went astray and he's not on the same wavelength as his team mates all the time but that will come. Good in the tackle too. Encouraging!

I was positively surprised by his performance during first half yesterday. I mean I knew that he was a good passer of the ball, but I didn't expect him to be that good. If our players had understood him better, we would've been 3 up at half time because his passes to Saha and Giggs were good, problem was that they had to little time to get used to such passes. It will come with time.

He was decent at defending too, though O'Shea presence gave him much of comfort. Scholes won't be that hard-working in defence.

So far, he was very bad at Watford in his first game and impressive at times in second against his former team. Not that bad. I feel that he will add quality to our side and opponents will have tough life facing his lethal passes.

I was very impressed with him yesterday, watching from my seat in the East Stand he seemed to keep things very simple and yet showed some imagination.

He's a fantastic purchase.

I think because he is a good solid player, he gets under-rated. He won't produce a 30-yard volley, but all of our play will go through him.

Like I say, underrated. As for supporting the attack I reckon he has been told to stay back because of a contrast of play with Scholes. Obviously ineffective with his absence.

As he faded in the 2nd half so did we. His passing was very impressive though and I was happy to see him getting stuck in against Davids. I'm looking forward to seeing Carrick and Scholes in the middle.

Carrick is just not consistant to be a world class player.Like yesterday he played well for the first half then played badly in the second. If FERGIE can make him a consistant player Carrick can be really world class.

So, SAF plays Carrick and Oshea in the middle and asks both of them to hold back and not support the attack ?

Carrick is a decent player but simply not good enough as an attacking midfielder. So stop inventing/ dreaming up fecking excuses.

I for one am happy that we didnt get Hargreaves. Yesterday's game illustrated quite clearly two issues -
1. Having two deep lying players in the middle only invites more pressure onto us.
2. With the lack of a ball winner, we struggle to get back possession even against a Spurs team who are in poor form.

Hope Carrick improves his defensive game and tackling because adding another player in the middle who can do that would leave the strikers short of support.

What are you on about. Carrick is a defensive player, thats what we bought. O'Shea was a temporary solution, with Scholes in the team we needed a DM. And Carrick doesn't seem to have much missing from his defensive game. Unless of course you want to take Scholes out.

Stupid cnut.

He has just returned from injury and hardly had a pre-season. Of course he won't be fully fit.

OShea was the holding midfielder yesterday and Carrick had more freedom to move forward. He didn't because that's not his natural game. So stop making fecking excuses about SAF giving instructions asking him to hold back.

I was stating that Carrick + Hargreaves wouldn't work either because Carrick is limited as a player and our only hope is that he improves his tackling.

But continue to listen to the voices in your head about SAF's instructions. Atleast the rest of us can laugh.

Gary Neville is 32 years old...injury lay off and not much of a pre season hardly affected his energy levels, did it ? These are professional athletes who are paid to keep themselves in top physical condition, running around in the first half shouldn't tire them. If he was a little slow to react or didnt understand the movement of other players, it can be attributed to lack of sharpness or pre season. But Carrick was mostly invisible in the second half, mainly because we didnt have the ball and we lack a ball winner. He shows glimpses of great passing when we do have possession, hence the good show in the first 20 min. When Spurs settled and were strong during a phase of the game, Carrick went missing.

Not really. Carricks strength is passing but decent enough in defending.
