I was stating that Carrick + Hargreaves wouldn't work either because Carrick is limited as a player and our only hope is that he improves his tackling.
But continue to listen to the voices in your head about SAF's instructions. Atleast the rest of us can laugh.![]()

He's very good defensively, but he does his defending by reading the last pass and intercepting it, or at least moving in quickly enough to put the opponent under immediate pressure. He's not the kind that runs tirelessly at 100mph and slides in tackle after tackle.
Sure O'Shea playing the more dedicated defending role gave him the freedom to play further forward, but this is a skill he can also apply even if he's asked to hold his position in front of the back four. Before Saturday's game I doubted that he had enough defensively to hold his own, but he went toe to toe with Zokora and Davids and didn't come off second best until he started to tire a bit in the second half.
Now if only we can enrol Paul Scholes in a "Defending 101" crash course, just to tighten things up a bit more!

We saw glimpses of what he's capable of - he played a couple of very intelligent passes in the first half, that only someone like Scholes would be capable of. He did look rusty overall, and faded out of the game in the second half. I don't think he performed poorly, but he will improve vastly as he gets more games with us and gets used to his teammates.

From those who felt that United would struggle to score goals after RVN was sold, they also picked him to win the golden boot at the World cup![]()
From the clever fans who were sure that France wont get past the group stages of the World cup after watching the first couple of matches while Spain/England were favorites.
From the smart ones that laughed when I said France would beat Brazil and go all the way and when I picked Italy as the only team that could stop them.
But so far the events have strangely backed my judgement and it's spastics like you that eventually end up humiliated.

I doubt he will ever be able to shine in the England team. He will suffer just like Scholes did whenever playing for themhardyboy said:Carrick is playing it safe, keeping possession rather than beingg adventurous. I hope once he is settled in the United and also England team, we'll see his true capabilities.
Man, what took you so long to reply. Me calling Fletcher that is due to the other "fans" here constantly bashing him and were creaming themselves when we signed Carrick and wanted even worse players. As we can see so far, there is very little difference between them and so far Fletcher has in fact been much better than Carrick, both on the club level and has also done well for Scotland, compared to Carrick who clearly was not up for it when selected for England. Of course, Fletcher has been in very good form and playing as good as he can while Carrick hasn't reached his true level. Playing for Tottenham is so much easier than playing out wide in Manchester United.ega04cmd said:Why bother with names like Fletchinho? It's not remotely funny or witty. It's like Chelscum etc...

see, very clever.
I think that could be part of the problem why Carrick hasn't had the confidence to take the game by the scruff of the neck. Scholes has generally been so dominant that our players generally pass it to him rather than Carrick when they are both in good positions. Especially when they seem to have almost swapped positions at times with Scholesy deeper and Carrick more forward, it's not really surprising that he's taking a while to bed in.Keilyn27 said:Getting a midfielder was better than nothing... but Carrick has been very languid and largely invisible, far outshone by a revitalised Scholes.
