Celtic Appoint Ronny Deila As New Manager

Hearing there may have been a few spelling errors in the referee's match report. This isn't over yet.

Sickening if true  Rules are rules, if Maribor aren't expelled from the competition for that I'll be livid. Celtic deserve to go through.

I must have been one of the few wanting Celtic to win last night. They have done nothing wrong except being shite.

They were the beneficiaries of an injust decision, and that's plenty enough for me to be amused to see them crash out.

Ludicrous thinking.

Instead of directing your anger at UEFA and their rulebook you direct your anger at the club who did literally nothing wrong. Genius mate.

It wasn't unjust either. Unfortunate is the word you're looking for.

I'm not directing anger anywhere, though you're right that if anger is required it should be aimed at UEFA. I'm just saying that it's natural to find it funny, and a kind of poetic justive to see them screw up their second chance so badly.

It was unjust in my book. There was no suggestion of Legia gaining a sporting advantage from the mistake, so there should not have been a sporting penalty. A fine and a reminder to do it right in future would have been just.

Other clubs go around knowingly flaunting FFP, whihc does gain you an advantage on the pitch, and only get a fine and a warning.

It was the standard punishment for fielding a suspended player. It wasn't unjust at all. The rules are there for a reason. A slap on the wrists and a fine isn't going to deter teams from doing in the future. Legia weren't trying to gain an advantage which is why it's unfortunate but if UEFA set precedents like that then there'll be a lot of teams out there who will try to gain an advantage.

You absolutely deserved to be out of the Champions League. Even more funny that Celtic fans spoke about how no one would ever give up on €10m or so they would receive for being in CL group stages when Legia fans wanted them to pull out (silly argument as it was, in the hindsight you'd have gained far more by going with it than remaining in CL ) only for them not to see a penny from it.

It was absolutely ridiculous for me to see a team that lost a tie 6-1 progress in the CL and as I've said I'd have rather seen Legia disqualified from Europe altogether with one team in the following round being given a bye to the groups and Celtic being installed in Europa League than a walkover which promoted a side that lost so heavily on the pitch, that's why I'm delighted with the fact that Celtic are out.

Well we've been through that but surely it's easy to differentiate team using a player because they thought he was eligible and a team trying to gain unjust advantage by fielding a suspended player. It's done though, Legia and Celtic are both in Europa League and I guess it's pretty clear which one of them has a better chance to do well on the pitch in the competition.

I'm not saying that the rules were bent to stitch them up or anything, just that the rules are not fair. They could easily be structured so that they take into account whether there was any possibility of gaining advantage.

In this case it was a pure clerical error that had no bearing on anything that happened on the pitch. Why should that result in such severe punishment?

The rules for fielding a suspended player are clear. The rules for what counts as a suspension aren't. It's not good to have the rules differently than anywhere else. UEFA should really make them simpler.

It's not even a question of intent - the player would have been eligible if some back-room clown had just filled in the right paperwork.

I wouldn't celebrate if I were Maribor BTW. Until draw is made on Friday nothing is certain.

Exactly. Silly as it was, it was just a honest mistake. This is in the past though, Legia have done well to beat Aktobe in the first leg in EL and will probably make it to the groups and I fully expect them to do well there. Celtic not so much.

I just hope Legia andCeltic get to play each other again. Anybody know if they can meet in the groups or will be kept apart? I'm guessing the latter having both dropped in from the CL, in which case they obviously won't meet this season.

They can meet in groups, Legia will be seeded lower and BTW they're playing Aktobe in the current round, a team that also dropped from Champions League (although they didn't lose as heavily as Legia against Celtic). I just hope they won't put 3 past Legia again. :(

I think Legia will make it through the groups in the EL unless they have a really poor draw. Celtic won't though so group stages will be the only chance for them to meet.

I hope we don't play them. I'd be worried for our fans over there.

They'd beat us again, no doubt. Not because they're good (they're not) but because our board's downsizing has took us down to a level below that of Legia and Maribor. That is a disgrace in itself.

With the fanbase and following that Celtic have I have no idea how they manage to invest so little in their squad. It's a disgrace really, for a club their size to have so little ambition in the market.

They don't need to - they will cake walk the league with the dross they have.

They can't - no self respecting decent player is going to go there on the basis that every match is practically a pre season friendly.

Your fans would be safe here, Poland's not some third world country you imagine us to be.

They're good enough to put 6 past you. Mind you you'd still get 6 points off Legia easily.

Good enough to put 6 past us. Yes, like I said, our board have dragged us down to a level below the likes of Legia Warsaw and Maribor. Celtic, Legia and Maribor would all have got absolutely slaughtered in the group stages and will do in Maribor's case.

My fear for our fans safety isn't a representation of Poland as a country but rather the Legia fans and their attitude to Celtic. Their hardcore element are filthy, disgusting people and you know as well as I do that there'll be trouble if the teams meet.

No other club would've done any different in the same circumstances so the bitterness towards Celtic and the joy some have taken from their defeat is a little bit weird.

As I said I didn't want a team that lost 6-1 but was gifter progress on technicality to be in the group stages of CL.

Fair enough but the way some our acting it's as if Celtic did something wrong. They didn't.

I know they are annoyed but they shouldn't have done that. A very good chance that they will kick Legia out of Europa League after this.

Would they then go to CAS asking for our place in the Europa? ;)

They won't get kicked out the tournament. We had a "feck UEFA" banner and never got kicked out.

No, you won't have a place in Europa by the time CAS could take action. How in the God's name did you allow Maribor to progress? Wasn't there anything to call them on for walkover?

Legia will have themselves to blame this time if they are kicked out (and IMO they will be).

The reason we allowed Maribor to progress is summed up by the wording in the Legia banner. Money > football in the eyes of our board.

You won't get much money in Europa League then.

Worst case scenario they'll lock one of the sectors or whole stadium again, plus a hefty fine.

Liked this display myself to be fair. 'La la la la la la feck UEFA' was chanted both halves as well, didn't sound too well though.

They'd already tried locking sectors and even the whole stadium, might not be so lenient this time.

I hope they get kicked out of Europa League after this.

Me too. I also hope that all teams that have players discussing with referees will be expeled from the competition too. Also, all clubs who have ever appealed a yellow card.
