Celtic Appoint Ronny Deila As New Manager

I told you all they wouldn't win the league this season, or at least would find it incredibly hard....

Beaten again, 1-0 at home today....

I'll accept your apologies now :D

It'll probably still be a comfortable league win for Celtic in the end. If they're struggling come January, they'll just buy all the best players from whoever is above them. A proper title race would be exciting though.

I read a story on sky where Andy Walker suggests Deila should be worried for his job. Does anybody get a sense his job might be under threat

It will do Scottish football the world of good if Celtic don't win the league.

Why wouldnt it be?

theyve gone from being Champions by a very clear margin, to mid-table. They lack quality across the squad.

That being said, the board havent helped with investing money

Scottish football really is awful

He'll get a little bit of time perhaps, but if Christmas comes and Celtic aren't top of the league then I could see them pulling the trigger. That might be beneficial if he isn't up to the job since, presuming Celtic do win the league, the board would seem harsh if they fired him probably, no matter how poor a season Celtic had overall.

I'd say that's a bit of an overstatement. They've had a terrible start and might actually struggle to win the league this year, unlike in other seasons where there's hardly been a contest, but they're not mid-table. Give them a good manager, or wait for them to hit some form and this side would still likely win the league and be seen as the strongest in the division, despite it being incredibly average compared to some Celtic squads.

Celtic still have by far the best squad of players in the Scottish League.

The reason they're not dominating is likely down to the fact that the players just can't be feckin arsed any more.

Out of the Champions League at the qualifier stage.

The Europa League is a dead league that only becomes worth anyone's attention at the Semi-final stages.

Playing at home every other week against really poor teams in a half-empty stadium.

Players are probably content to simply put in a half hearted effort in training and collect their salaries at the end of the week.

I hate Scottish football. I hate Sky and the money that allows won feck all in their life clubs to spend on great players. I hate Anthony Stokes. I hate Kris Commons. I hate the Celtic board. The only positive is it looks like we might finish 11th and then beat Rangers in the playoffs consigning them to another year of lower league football but they'd probably beat us.

Seriously though, Deila's tactics are a joke. This is from Thursday night...

Surely Rangers not being in the top flight has had a negative affect on Celtic?

It has but it's because our board won't spend money if they're not here because they know we'll win the league easily and get CL qualifiers in turn. We've made so much money through European success and player sales the past few years so it's not really their absence that's hurt us but rather our board's reaction to their absence.

If they come back up it'll be good for the league (though they won't be the same title-challenging club they were) but I still don't want them to come back up which is rather sad

As I said in a previous post, Celtic not winning the league this year can only benefit Scottish football as a whole, although I can understand why a Celtic fan wouldn't see it that way :)

Meanwhile Neil Lennon is being lined up for a job in Saudi Arabia

The papers up here must be baffled. They thought he was a God send for winning a one horse race every year (whilst failing to secure a treble at any point)

you're right, it is an overstatement. They will probably go on to win the league because the others will stumble their way out off it

it smacks of a team not being managed properly, or not fully onboard with whatever the manager is trying to do.

The Celtic board actually need to think of the bigger picture. If they dont invest then their product will simply become boring to the TV companies and the big sponsors.

Scottish football is on the verge of becoming League of Ireland football

Yeah, the problem is that while most other sides can beat this Celtic team on their day, they'll struggle to maintain that form over an entire season.

Not to mention that if Celtic have a clear competitor come January, they could just fork out some money and buy the best players from whoever it is that's competing against them, nullifying the competition.

Serves them right for hiring an average Norwegian manager. Drillo destroyed Wimbledon, Berg/Solbakken lasted only months at Blackburn/Wolves, Solskjær was woeful with Cardiff and now Deila is struggling with what in reality was an one horse race. The Norwegian league has never been poorer, we don't even have a team in the Europa League, and the only sign of quality in the league is a 15 year old kid kicking the arses of people both twice his age and size. Yet these traditional British clubs keep coming back and hiring Norwegian managers with the smallest CV's and next to no continental experience. They never learn.

Celtic will still win the league easily. They're the only team capable of stringing 10 wins on the bounce together. The teams currently at the top are probably in the best form they'll have this season. Consistency is the key, which even a poor Celtic have more of than the other teams playing well usually.

I wouldn't go that far.

Weren't you actually saying that Motherwell would win it ?

Leaving Celtic and taking the Bolton job.. Okay.

Leaving Celtic and taking the Bolton job.. Okay.

He had too. He's won the league three years in a row, done alright in Europe, yet no decent team will take a punt on him. He had to leave and try somewhere else otherwise he isn't getting a Prem job.

Jury's still out on Lennon. Celtic were downsizing and his so-so record in Europe was only going to get worse. It's clear from his punditry that he's astute about the game and he's made a few fine signings, but I reckon Premiership teams are a little cagey about his victim mentality whenever Celtic didn't get the rub of the green.

Failed to reach the CL again. Sacked in the morning.

Probably the easiest tie they could have got and they fecked it up.
Malmö is far from easy, I'd actually say it's one of the toughest possible draw for them since there were teams like Skenderbeu and Astana in the pot. Malmö knocked Salzburg out two years in a row, they are no push overs.

Calling for his head on Celtic forums

Which is understandable. 99% of them stood by him last year.

They've bottled every single big game since he took charge

They looked pretty shit to me. Celtic threw away a goal in the last minute of the home tie which was pretty ridiculous. They couldn't defend their corners over both legs and inevitably that's what undone them tonight. Malmo look poor to me and Berget who was awful at Cardiff / Celtic was made to look like a proper player over both legs. Celtic threw it away.

Celtic have been downsizing for a while so it's no surprise they get turned over in Europe. And they are clearly not tactically astute or streetwise enough to compensate.
