Champions League 2014/15

Perfect draw for me. Nice glamour side who will serve as useful experience for our young players and two other teams who aren't the best from their respective pots.

The thing is even if you just draw everyone from the same pot so you have some groups of deaths and some groups of 4 weaker clubs so that two clubs that had no chance get into the knockout stage, well the reality will bite them sooner or later when they run into one of the big clubs and in reality have no chance of winning it all anyways.

But at least they get the chance to get through to the knockouts, meaning they get more money and more experience. Over time that'd lead to better players and more chances for more clubs to win it. Until then UEFA would still have the big clubs in the final so they'd still get the money but the fans would get more fun out of better groups of death and more interesting teams getting through.

Remember 1999, we had Bayern and Barça in our group which was fantastic, big ties straight away and then we had a hard run to the final as well. That year still had Juve, Bayern and Dynamo (who were much bigger and better back then) in the semis. The other groups were still good and the knockouts were interesting.

Depending on results you can pick exactly who will play who right upto the final under the current system and that is boring as feck.

Oh and can we note that Chelsea have by far the easiest group out of anyone, yet again. Bollocks to everyone who says we always get the easiest.

I just hope our players can cope with Stamford Bridge´s atmosphere. Specially the plastic flags

 Even a Sporting supporter is laying into them.

I jest. We will probably take a beating. Was only a inocent joke, we have plastic flags too

Since we have a big tiffosi culture, i just find the flags funny.

Anyone else secretly find it hilarious how City keep getting groups of death?
They could pick different teams for their groups of death though, it's getting really really boring. At least the games against Roma should be great, probably will go to the home game to see Totti one last time before he retires.

Shame, I hoped for PSG or one of the big spanish teams in our group.

Hopefully Vidal won't be playing for Juve when they come to Malmö! And watching Diego Simeone in person ought to be interesting!

Roll on! We'll win at least one game, you heard it here first!

feck UEFA it's all a big conspiracy against City.
If that's true, it starts to feel like a conspiracy against Bayern as well  . It's enough now, really. Good luck for the games though, I really hope we get to play on the 3rd and 4th matchday against each other so that both games are important to both clubs. It kinda sucked that the 2nd game was pretty much meaningless the last two times.

/edit:
Just saw it, it's the same shit again, 2nd and last matchday :(

Seeing this thread, i didn't want to even enter this thread, does anybody else feel the same? . In my lifetime, i am still pretty young and have been supporting Utd as a kid, this is the first time we aren't participating in the Cpl, it feels so weird looking at the groups with our name not being in it. :(

It's only for a year (I hope). After the drought come good times. Have faith! :)

Haha, I was only joking about the conspiracy. But yeah, Bayern are getting shafted as well by getting drawn with City, only our failure to take league form into Europe has prevented us providing a credible threat thus far.

Yeah it's a shame the games have fallen at a time when they weren't important but I still find it amazing that City and Bayern, according to Lahm, were unaware we only needed one more goal to take top spot. I mean it's unlikely we'd have got it but the lack of understanding was laughable.

I'd like to say good luck to you as well but having watched us fail in Europe for the past few years I've become determined to see us do well for a change so I'm hoping we send out a statement in the group stage ;)

Nice work @Rafateria.

Could have worked out a lot worse for us, hopefully we manage to qualify before the final game so we can rest players ahead of that Man Utd game.

That would be nice ! There's a chance though it would mean us winning away at Basel and Basel at best not bettering our results vs Real and Ludo. The Home match could then be irrelevant - more than like though it will be the decider.

It's good that City, Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal all have to play each other after midweek European games.

Question:

If we finish in the top 4 this season, what pot will we go into?
If we don't finish top 4 this year but do the following year, same question.

1) pot 2 most likely
2) pot 2 or pot 3

But your statement about Bayern is laughable. How have they gotten worse by replacing Van Buyten, Mandzukic, Kroos, Contento with Benatia, Lewandowski, Alonso and Bernat?
Yeah they pretty much replaced all the weaker links in their squad with either world class players or just very good players. Kroos to Alonso is the only downgrade but even then, Alonso is good.

Kroos is better than Alonso and that makes a massiive difference. Pep's teams are all about the midfield and they're weaker in midfield, no argument. They won't be able to dominate a game anywhere near as much with a past it Xabi Alonso than they would with Kroos.

Our group is much easier than last year. Hopefully we can get top spot, that's really burned us the last few tournaments. Bit over playing Dortmund, although at least they're exciting. Let's nick Sokratis to make the job a bit easier!

Just me or do they seriously need to get rid of the seeding system or change it or something.

fecking boring seeing the same groups every year/two years.

City have had either Bayern or Dortmund every season. They've also played CSKA (who always have an English club) in a year they had Bayern.

Arsenal seem to play Dortmund nearly every season

Ajax always have either Real or Barça in their group so they can never progress.

Chelsea seem to play Schalke more often than not

Benfica and Zenit seem to play each other every year and if not then Zenit get Porto instead at some point.

Basel always seem to play an English team as well.

fecking rubbish. Go back to the days when you could have Bayern, Barça and us in one group. All this does in ensures that the lower teams can never progress and the same big teams are always in the knockout rounds. Obviously it's all for money but it doesn't half dull the competition.
Yeah i feel with Ajax

2014-2015: Barca, PSG, APOEL Nicosia
2013-2014: Barca, AC Milan, Celtic
2012-2013: Real Madrid, Manchester City, Dortmund
2011-2012: Real Madrid, AC Milan, Dinamo Zagreb

Group E looks the most difficult, all the others on paper at least look fairly straight forward. Though as usual I'm sure we will see some surprises with smaller teams playing well or big teams going out when they should have easily progressed.

Legia fans serously need to get over it..

Interesting groups, nothing special. As soon as Benatia went to Bayern they drew Roma, I'm sure he'll get a nice welcome at the Olimpico.. That's the toughest group too.
