Champions League QFs (11th - 19th April)

This tie is as good as done IMO. Juventus are well capable of hitting Barcelona on the counter and I don't think there's much of a chance of them conceding 4 (or 5 if they score). PSG was one story, they are not that great but Juventus are a class team with brilliant defence.

Would be funny to come back from 4-0 against PSG only to (possibly) get knocked out in the very next round. :D
Yeah and Juventus will be aware that PSG fecked up a better scoreline so they will be extra cautious and much better prepared. If the PSG hadn't happened, then maybe Barca could pull it off but like you said Juventus defends much better.

Because it's boring. I'm not ruling Barca out by any stretch but just because they've done it before doesn't mean jack.
It means more than just plucking a "thy can do t because dey have messhi!" argument out of the butthole. Because they've done it, it means it can be done, and because they've done it recently it means it can be done by this group of players. How else do you imagine the discussion going? Thousand posts of "yeah lets all agree they have no chance". Riveting.

Iniesta missed a golden opportunity to make it 1-1 and Suarez missed some good chances too. But Juventus have done a great job.

Probably Barca need to do something in the summer. They are not as powerful as they were several years ago anymore.

but when PSG played a beautiful game vs barca at home people were praising them on here and saying how amazing they were just like people are doing now? They turned to jelly at Camp Nou and it's only after that second match that people can now revise their opinion of PSG. they were every bit as imperious or even more so in their first leg vs Barca.

Let's see.
But PSG did not even have much history of beating good teams in CL, that first game came as a huge surprise but of course it left them overwhelming favourites ahead of 2nd leg. They always struggled against Barca or other good sides. Juventus have been there, done that and have a brilliant defence. Obviously miracles happen but I truly doubt it will happen again to the same Barca team. They won't be bailed out this time I think

We should have had a penalty and Mandzukic should have been sent off this game. We should ask to replay the game and this Polish dude should be banned by UEFA from refereeing any Champions League game again.
It's just not fair is it? Barca should be allowed to choose their own officials, maybe interview them beforehand.... maybe even choose a member of their own club ..... just to be on the safe side?

Barca should go out on the last round, if not for the ref helping them. Giving non-existent penalty, and no red card for Masch hacking di Maria from behind when through on goal.

Most be a very unusual feeling, I can see why you're upset

I'm not upset. I expected a bad result. Not 0-3 bad, but still knew we would not get a good result from Turin. I'm also curious to see if we can come back from this as well. Barca can score 3 goal against any team.

It's the resort of dullards or overexcitable eejits.

Okay. Then how about Pjanic + €58 million in change instead of Pogba? From what I've seen, you could almost argue that he's been an upgrade for them. And I know he's missed a bunch of matches.

I know he's 3 years older than Pogba, and Pogba probably has the potential to be even better. I just think Pjanic is exactly the sort of player we are in need of. It's all just hypothetical.
No. We had the money for Pogba and he was the best player on the market.

Every time we see a CL game and players playing good there are numerous posts we need this we need that.
Granted even I got carried away with it seeing Monaco playing.
But it isn't that simple.

Now it's about Pjanić, he's not what we need. He's a nice tidy players but goes missing a lot of times and Pogba's ceiling is a lot higher. Not to mention he's younger too.

Don't want to play devil's advocate here but he does have a point doesn't he?

Don't you think Pogba is looking at his ex teammates leading comfortably the Seria A and being close to the CL semis, while he's at fifth place challenging for the EL, and not having second thoughts?

Juve winning in Italy is not a surprise, and Pogba knew we were not in CL before he signed.

He is Vice President. Not sure what all his tasks are, but he represents us at all the draws, serves as a liaise between the board and the sporting staff and is part of the group of people who decide on transfers.
thanks. must be great to have him as part of the club. congratulation to the win today.

This felt different from the PSG 0-4. Barca and Messi turned up today, but Juve were better (and luckier, 3-1 would have been fair on the balance of play).

Juventus will win the whole thing. My last 3 predictions however have seen the team lose the final..this time I think Juventus will beat anyone.

I'm split on Barca-Juve.

With Juve, I find them more tolerable than Barca, though their fans treatment of Evra was ugly to see.

With Barca, I cannot stand the club but they play, for me, the most entertaining football in the world and I like @Kevin a lot and would worry about his safety if they were to lose.

I think the tie is far from over so just an entertaining 2nd leg will do me.

I agree! Barcelona were not nearly as bad as they were in Paris. I have no idea what do Juventus have to do before people start taking them seriously. Two years ago, they beat Real in the semis and people were treating like a shocking result, they came within a minute from eliminating Bayern last year and again tonight, people were acting as though they were some sort of underdog. Add to that their domestic consistency and it's baffling how underrated they are. To me the only team that is clearly better than them over the past few years is Barcelona 2015. After them, they were more or less as good as anyone.

Can't see barca coming back from this one, they were hugely lucky to go past the last knock out stage, think their race is run here. Them not scoring is probably what's going to knock them out. Don't think Juve were all to impressive either. Apart from Pjanic and Dybala none of the other players in the front 6 impress me all that much. I'm still shocked at how Higuain cost 90 million euros. Khedira's whole career at the pinnacle of the game is mystery. Cuadrado as a right winger isn't all that sure what he's doing, and Mandzukic is doing some sort of battler job on the left. They do have a quality back 4 (although they did make some strange mistakes) and are a hugely organised team.

Messi was decent, Neymar was poor as was Suarez. Iniesta was mediocre, everyone else aren't footballers you expect too much of. Btw why did barca have pique marking space, while Mascherano was battling it out with Chielini? that whole shape just looks so vulnerable even when they are on top in games, the opposition can spring a dangerous counter. Just don't see them keeping a clean sheet in the second leg.

Look at the state of our team

We need at least one world class midfielder and one proper right-back along with a new coach who actually has a coherent tactical plan for us to become a force in Europe again.

Cancelo, Verratti and Sampaoli/Gallardo will do just fine.

Also, it'd be nice if MATS could actually start making some saves soon.

Good performance from Juve tonight, that Barca defense is poor but they exploited it ruthlessly for the most part, I loved Chiellini's beastly header. Juve have the kind of experience and defensive savvy to see it through at the Nou Camp, I don't see them crumbling like PSG.

Bet Pogba is regretting leaving right now. I mean looking at this Juve side, there's little doubt that Paul Pogba has taken a backward step in his career

And Juve showing the how poor Conte was in Europe, especially with the midfield that had Vidal, Pogba, Pirlo.

So Juventus are back to being a top team in Europe while Barcelona are on the way down? That's some 1990s nostalgia there. Love it.

Fantastic for the champions league. Fantastic for Serie A. Fantastic for neutral fans.

However, Barca will get two penalties in the second leg. And one offside goal. ;)

Would be funny if Barca proves everyone wrong again and win the return leg at home 5-1.

This year's CL has been one of the best in terms of goals, exciting fixtures, comebacks, the drama, etc. I miss us being in it. This is why we have to get back into CL next year.

With couple of favorable mistakes from the ref, Barca should be able to do the comeback. But it is going to be very difficult.
Unlike PSG, Juve defend well. And unlike PSG, are not likely to get overwhelmed by the occasion.

Well odds are 500 to 1 against Barcelona not robbing the second leg so and even then I wouldn't bet a single euro on that.

As I said, referees will have to be at their absolute best for Barca to stand a chance here. Not even a PSG-like performance can save them, it will have to be better.

Thanks,
