Champions League - Quarter Finals

This should normally go in the "Serie A thread" but Juventus have a boring life in the league

Pirlo is still injured (right???), Pogba is out for 5-6 weeks and now Marchisio

Our central midfield suddenly looks weak. Pirlo is back, but Marchisio, Asamoah and new signing Romulo are all out for the whole season. Pogba is out for 5-6 weeks. It's a big shame, considering Marchisio has been excellent this season and that we really could have used Asamoah in his best position now. Asamoah could be back soon, but he's not on the CL list anyway.

So we're left with Pirlo, Vidal and Pereyra, which is a fine trio for the starting XI. We have absolutely no midfield depth now apart from January emergency signing Sturaro from Genoa who's 22, and jack-of-all-trades versatile Pepe and Padoin who are loyal, hard working and quite limited in central midfield.

Allegri should make a call to the chilean national team coach before Sunday

I genuinely forgot who's playing who except for the Madrid derby and Porto-Bayern. Not watched much European football other than City and 'Pool this season tbh.

Looking forward that this starts again. Some weeks ago I was very pessimistic but now Madrid has the confidence back.I hope that finally Ancelotti will find out something to beat Atletico's midfield, although will be difficult with 4-3-3. Monaco did a good work but I'd love to see Juve in semifinals

I really hope our 5 or so uninjured players can somehow win this in Porto...

The time difference here in Aus makes these games awful to watch. I'd really like to watch them but a 4:30 AM start is just not OK

Atlético vs Real is the new Barça vs Real. They've played each other so many times that the matches are boring now.

I just think Atletico's form has dropped a bit.

It certainly has, and Real Madrid's form has picked up lately. Think they'll be up for it tonight though, and the match being at the Calderón should give them an advantage.

Who would you drop for Isco? James has looked very good since his return. I'd maybe make a case for dropping Bale but I think his pace on the counter will be an asset against Atleti.

Bale yeah. Otherwise I'd drop James, but Isco is a must in my view, he's been pretty much their best player this season and doesn't deserve to be dropped.

Since that dramatic CL final, Atleti have won 4 and drawn 2 against Real. Very good record. Hopefully they can keep it up tonight. Last meeting ended up 4-0 back in february. What a game that was.

That Madrid side looks so imbalanced with James and Bale both starting. Don't understand why Isco was dropped, at least he brings some defensive work rate to the team.

So does James. He is one of the teams most hard working players defensively (in terms of pressing and tracking back).

I'll be rooting for Atletico. Would like them (or an even bigger underdog) to take the whole thing this year, rather than one of the superpowers.

Atletico win tonight I think. Rarely do the away team win in the knockout stages. They seem to have the edge over Real.

Fair enough. Obviously don't watch as many Madrid games as yourself but I have been impressed with Isco's work rate whenever I have seen him. Didn't think of James as that sort of player.
