Champions League Round of 16 (12th Feb - 13th Mar)

It's not only about who are the best footballing side. Knockout competition is a dogfight, where street smarts and ruthless opportunism reign supreme. Two Madrid teams and Juventus are usually doing great in this competition, not necessarily because they play the best football. That is their advantage over team like City (and maybe PSG), who are arguably more idealistic in their approach, often in contrast to supposed "nobility" of European football.

Barcelona is an interesting case. They are seemingly transforming into a more cynical side (probably just a consequence of a sheer lack of vision). But at their core, they're still a side that wants to dominate a football match, and that kind of approach entails a certain hubris and fragility that is often punished in a heavyweight knockout competition.

Spot on.

All due respect, besides Arsenal, I'm not sure many non-Spurs fans care too much about what Spurs do.

But hey, I also want to see United progress tonight, so what do I know.

I'm not comfortable with this knowledge.

Please take it back.

Whaaaaaatt

Also, Chelsea fans generally also hate us. Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham fans care .. the rest not so much, except for United fans on here who Glaston has single handedly made hate our club .

PSG going through would be boring from this position. I want Lyon to beat Barcelona, United to stage a comeback, Schalke to beat City at the Ethiad, and the Liverpool/Bayern game not to send me to sleep.

Gimme another game like last night. More entertaining than the comfortable aggregate win that PSG will likely get.

Actually, I don't care if you progress or not - just make the tie interesting.

Yeah but .. you're a Liverpool fan. I can't imagine any universe in which I would want Arsenal or Chelsea to progress.

I've said it before, but I don't really care. I've gone months without watching a game when we were playing shite, and even now if there's something else I'd rather do I'd do that over watching us play. I cheered for Ajax yesterday harder than I've cheered for Liverpool in months  I just wanna see good football & underdog stories.

Besides, I've never had an issue with United. Always kinda hated Chelsea, though.

I'm struggling to understand your logic.

Less of that, Klopper :nono:
I'm starting to get concerned at where this is going.

What if he has a good summer and you start next season with a strong winning run? I'd prefer you remain on 20 for a while.

Gives us a few decades to try and reach 19.

Might not have to give you a few decades if City mess up again, the league's annoyingly still too close to discount you yet.

In all seriousness though, we'd have to have a very, very good summer to have a hope of catching up with City/Liverpool, particularly City who have some incredible squad depth. Signing all of our targets who are hopefully quality players while making sure Pogba and De Gea don't have their heads turned is crucial, and we've had some poor recruits over the last few seasons.

You're not far off us at all. A combined XI would be pretty much half and half, and your bench isn't bad at all.

If Ole continues to work out & you bring in 1 or 2 really good signings, you'll be on terms with us I reckon... Unless we also make 1 or 2 really good signings, I guess.

We're miles from City overall

I can only assume your account has been hacked or if not then you need to lie down.

More like a football fan with a slight preference for Liverpool should it come down to it.

I’m also tuning in tonight, hoping to see Mbappe score 4 or 5 times, like most Liverpool fans I assume.

I'd not mind seeing that :D I've been watching PSG in Ligue 1 just to watch the kid play. When he bursts into a sprint...

I was actually very fond of Spurs before I saw Glaston on here. Definitely supported you over Arsenal in 2005 top 4 race and was super disappointed to see you lose to West Ham.

He’s fecking sensational. So good to watch indeed.

Only Messi is more enjoyable to watch for me right now. Piatek at Milan is doing some crazy stuff as well, so I've been tryna catch as much of them as possible also.

Let's hope the kid puts on a show tonight.

You're not as far off as you think you are. We're only 12 points ahead of you and City are only 13 ahead.

We've been able to reduce a 25 point gap (16 at this stage last season) with City to just 1 point. If you have a good summer it's very much possible to bridge the gap.

That was only because you were acting like United fans would be hurting because Spurs won a knockout game painting this as some sort of great achievement. I found it funny.
Nah, I only saw your comment with regards to United. I don't know what your issue is but I think being a bit "conservative" is wise when on a oppo forum.

Steve Macmanaman looks like Michael Myers (Halloween)

It's pretty telling when the Liverpool fans on here seem more likeable than that one particular Spurs fan who can make the entire Caf hate Spurs. I'm going for a Porto win, Roma has been atrocious this season. PSG to beat us 1-0 or 2-1.

Verratti really can't afford a yellow tonight. Good to see Cavani back.

Oh shite, I thought Rom had screwed that up. What a start!

Wonder if this'll be another one of those 2nd legs where the team leading becomes complacent and almost lets the away side through, like Bayern losing 2-0 at home to Arsenal in their treble season or Monaco losing 2-0 at home to Arsenal in 2014/15.

EDIT: What a start!

Oh feck.. I said yesterday in here I don't trust PSG to see this through. They'll bottle it like the Barcelona game the other year.

God I still remember that game. That Neymar free kick was so, so perfect...

God damn.

Oof that was close. So much pace in that PSG attack.

United needed 3 goals anyway. Mbappe though
