James Baldwin, more than 50 years ago - let that sink in, nothing has changed
Don't know why all these republicans are getting plaudits for denouncing racism. It is easy do denounce someone that's carrying a Nazi flag or shouting "blood and soil".
It's extremely hypocritical when you're actually trying to exclude minorities from voting or giving them real opportunities to climb up the ladder.
Why bring Islam into this at all? How are you spewing hatred of a relegion any different than those supremacists?
What exactly is ironic about it Pogue?
Whats the grim irony? What the hell are you on about?
Was that guy who mowed down people outside Finsbury Park Mosque with his van on a Jihad?
I learnt something new today.
Very transparent attempt to try and shift attention away from the subject at hand and try to deflect to Islam...
More pathetic than ever. Congrats you've outdone yourself.
Its a bit weird how you all have latched onto Pogue's post in recent minutes when its been up for well over an hour.
Was just an observation.
No one referenced Pogue's post for over an hour after it was posted and then all of sudden within a space of a few minutes, 3 users pop up to complain about the post.
Wow. You really are a precious bunch. The irony is (of course) American citizens being injured and killed in the type of incident that the the wankers behind this protest think they are preventing from crossing the pond from Europe. Extremists deliberately mowing down pedestrians in cars.
The Finsbury Park incident was, of course, similarly ironic.
I think there may be a linguistic element at play here. If you hear that "irony" in the "dramatic irony" sense then it reads differently. I don't know if that's still the first definition in some dictionaries.
If you read it in the way most Brits (and Americans?) use it and interpret it, it's almost always used in the paradoxical sense in everyday speech - as you used it here.
Just guessing. Otherwise I don't understand what happened there.
I guess irony is a term that is often misinterpreted and poorly understood. Ironically.
I blame Alanis Morrisette.

She absolutely nailed irony and everyone missed it.

To be fair you were the one putting in an Islamic word "Jihadist" in English into a thread or specific incident about white supremacists terrorism. Most people would see that as an obvious way to try and conflate 2 topics...
Jihad has now become part of English vocabulary. It's meaning greatly misunderstood by the vast majority in the West. But that's for a different time and thread. To be fair you were the one putting in an Islamic word "Jihadist" in English into a thread or specific incident about white supremacists terrorism.
I find the mocking of these alt-right marches funny, but there is a generation of Americans to whom the imagery of white men marching and holding torches at night, is not a distant comic routine, but a real and experienced terror accompanied by threats, assault and lynchings across the country as late as the 1970s. From the news I've read so far, very little is done to make that connection, making these assholes seem like some fringe of American society resurrected after 40 years by Trump's rhetoric. This is more than a fringe.
And I'm tired of people saying we fought against Nazis in WW2. Yeah, our GIs fought the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe... segregated by race. And black vets came home to dogs, hoses, beatings, and lynchings for years more. Fascism is only part of the story here when the March occurs around a statue of Robert E Lee, and Confederate flags are abundant. Focus on the whole story.

I think the issue here is that people have taken exception because of your numerous threads and posts which basically try and conflate crimes like Rape and heinous violence other with certain cultures as if they are unique and exclusive to them while completely ignoring the contradictions in your baseless assumptions.
It's obvious to any genuine person that you try and provoke and goad people with you inflammatory remarks and then cry foul when people call you out on it. This is another way to push your crusade on "Political correctness gone mad I tell you"!!" spiel.
In any case, I won't help you derail the thread any further so this will be the last time I respond to you on this. I would be more concerned about the people who were murdered by ignorance, hate and xenophobia than having to go back on forth with your nonsense but then again I am part of a "precious bunch".
Nobody with two brain cells to rub together would see it that way, unless of course they had some kind of agenda.
yes, I am the one with the agenda...
He has form on this type of post and continually uses this type of approach, therefore, its natural to see it in that light. Also, it takes a bit of intelligence to see the attempt of disassociation from the terrorist act in and of itself and associate it with another context of "Jihad" by calling it a "Jihadist tactic" rather than for what it is an act of terror or violence.
anyway please leave me alone so I can formulate my secret agenda with the rest of the PC brigade Muwhahah
Only if they had poor comprehension skills.
The only part of this post that isn't complete nonsense is the first line. That bit is accurate.
Jihad has now become part of English vocabulary. It's meaning greatly misunderstood by the vast majority in the West. But that's for a different time and thread.
Nazi Mexican wave?![]()
Is it less racist if they can't do it properly?
*brings up irrelevant previous incidents and twists things to look like something they're not*
"I don't have an agenda!"
Sigh.
Which clearly you do since I pointed out that he has been previously criticized for doing this before. This is the context I meant it in because of thats what I wrote? I have helped you out by highlighting the very next line that describes what the context of that was...

What was that about comprehension again?
Interesting. I probably am misunderstanding it. I'm just trying to find a way to describe people who kill due to their own distorted interpretation of the islamic faith without specifically mentioning Islam in that context (which is, I know, unfair and annoying to people of that faith)
So you've ignored the very obvious and straightforward point he was making within the context of the subject at hand and instead decided to attack him based on things he had said before in totally different threads and totally different contexts? Yeah, clearly no agenda on your part.
I think I'll stop on this subject now as you guys have derailed the thread enough with your nonsense.
Everyone will be hearing a lot about Fields in the coming weeks but few will likely talk about the woman killed, 32 y.o. Heather Heyer whose FB page apparently had the following last post "If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention"

Jesus! That last line almost hurts to read.
RIP. Kind soul.
Must be surreal going to class with an known fascist.
Never. How long before the official President Trump twitter account posts a message condemning the white supremacists, with a statement clearly not typed out by himself?
