Chelsea 2017/18 thread - FA Cup Champs, League chumps

Deliberately asking questions at 100mph to someone who isn't truly fluent in English is bloody low, and bloody typical.

The lack of self awareness here is staggering. Conte has earned the right? After one season at the club? Have you forgotten already that if it wasn't for Roman we might not even HAVE a club? And what is this about net spending? We sold an average Matic and a disruptive Costa and brought in a hugely talented and much wanted striker in Morata, a superb defender in Rudiger (and the club's youth policy finally paying fruit with Christiansen) and Bakayoko who despite having a dire start to his Chelsea career was highly rated and promising. Since when was it a thing that a title winning club didn't have to just strength, but apparently are supposed to spend an additional 100m+ a year? How exactly is that sustainable? How exactly does that help with our new stadium plans?
Your sense of self entitlement and lack of patience shows you to be the type of so-called fan that you are which is far more staggering. Demanding Conte to be sacked because he voiced an opinion? When Ancelotti joins, I'll see what else you have to moan about him. Conte won the TITLE on his debut season when no one gave Chelsea a chance. Obviously, that's not enough for board supporters like you.

Rudiger is NOT a superb defender and Bakayoko has not shown any promise whatsoever in not even being able to trap a ball within 5 yards. Matic was needed to ease Bakayoko into the team yet the bloody Board sold him. The squad is filled with average players and it's a big testament to Conte for getting the club into a top 4 position. Let's see how Ancelotti or Enrique do when either of them coaches the club next season and you will be tearing your hair out of your head then.

Spend the transfer fees on less players with more quality instead of a bunch of average joes. And if that's still not within the club's budget, then don't demand Conte to win trophies and he might be more inclined to stay and not criticize the board. Roman showed passion in the past for the club but if he's not much bothered about it now, it's best to sell it off to someone else who can provide that passion (and funds). Or temper his expectations to be in line

If you want to suck off the manager while slating the guy who actually saved our club and brought the most success in our history AND slate our players as 'average', then you're exactly the kind of Football Manager teenager that represents everything I hate about our new fanbase. I have exactly one red line for our managers, and that's that they give everything they have for the club, and lead by example. When a manager is whining to the press about the club owners, insulting the players and sulking on the touchline, then I don't give a feck if he won back to back Champions Leagues, he needs to feck off. The club have brought in plenty of players recently, and its the managers damn job to make them into a team.

Plenty of AVERAGE players. With a one in and one out policy. So that blows your plenty of players testament out of the water. Frankly, it’s embarassing to read “fans” like you praising Drinkwater and Bakayoko as good signings. Not even Guardiola can do anything with them besides a top four finish at best. It’s so called fans like you that are an embarrassment to the club by constantly demanding for results and trophies. The fans who sang Conte’s name last night are a true credit to the club.

I repeat - if Roman doesn’t have any more passion for the club or still insists on success with zero net spend, it’s time for him to sell the club away.

It doesn’t matter who is brought into the head coach hot seat as he won’t be backed by Roman for the players he wants and worse, the core of leaders who were there in the past isn’t around anymore to rally the players.

A few years out of the top 4 might actually be good as it will wake Roman up and either spend on quality or sell the club.

That's twice you've said that, so go on then quote me demanding results and trophies. I supported this club when there were no trophies, and not getting relegated was considered a result, so don't lecture me about being fecking demanding.

This coming from the guy accusing others of being demanding. Sweet jesus..

This could be the start of a serious long-term decline for Chelsea.

If they finish outside the top 4, Hazard is surely off to Barca or somewhere ... and he's pretty much irreplaceable.

On top of that, they now have new stadium to start funding. Even if the actual start of construction is a long way off, the design and planning permission process is expensive all by itself. And Abramovich looks like he's lost interest in bank-rolling them much further.

That won't happen. Clubs like Man United and Chelsea can't go into the decline levels of Arsenal and Liverpool. We have way too much money

The in-fighting started from Chelsea backroom all the way to redcafe

The definition of demanding is to insist on your opinion getting through as seen by your demand for Conte to be sacked just because he voiced his opinion of getting support by the board.

Note that my post is just a suggestion and I have no power to demand for Roman to do anything I want him to do. Learn some English comprehension. And let’s see when you start whining about the new coach when results go South.

It's amusing to see you getting riled up by my posts with your swearing and dramatics. Which is great as I have zero respect for so-called fans like you who call for manager sackings just because he voiced an opinion about wanting more support from the board.

Thought so too.

"I didn't mention just Barkley though, did I?"

Conte should've given him a slap. Disrespectful twat.

The manager is an employee of the club and his responsibilities include representing the club publicly. For a manager to publicly criticize the board and its policies, insult the players under his management and set himself apart from and above the club itself is a dereliction of duty and should result in his removal. He could lose 10 games on the trot and I'd still back him if he was totally behind the club and players. Loyalty is not a terribly huge thing to ask from a guy being paid millions and provided with hundreds of millions of pounds worth of talent.

I thought that was out of order as well. Conte was trying ever so hard to be calm, which is funny by itself.

Why is the media ganging up on him?

Like a bunch of piranhas (or vultures) that smelt blood

You can argue his behaviour as questionable but you demanded that he deserved to be sacked for asking for the board's support. When has he insulted any of the players? You wouldn't say any of these things if Chelsea was on top of the table. And no need to exaggerate the worthiness of the squad - it's not a European or even domestic powerhouse by any means.

Normally, I would have say that the manager should stay and the board should trust him to turns things around since he won you title last season. But in Conte's case is different, he keeps moaning about the board & transfer activity things, it's like he's blaming others to protect himself. Such a coward thing to do, it's like he doesn't believe that he can turn it around unless if he can spend more more money. If the manager is talking crap about the board, why should the board trust him now to turn everything around?

Wenger hasn't won a league since god knows how long and he ain't being asked about his job. Poch or Kloop hasn't won anything and they aren't being asked about the sack.

Damn pathetic from the english media but we expect nothing else.

Conte is at his breaking point here, we broke him. He won the title last season with a squad that wasn't supposed to do it. He asked for quality replacements and we failed to deliver. Now we have these plastic numpties who call themselves fans who are defending the board and their stupdity. They have wrecked the club. You can't win titles with Barkley,Drinkwater and Bakayoko.

They care only about the profit not the playing quality of the player. Marina is a disgrace she just cares about the balance sheet while we decline on the pitch which will have even bigger effects on the books.

I am so furious right now. Conte doesn't deserve this we want him to compete and win titles but we fail to back him with proper transfers. We sell the players and bring in shit for him to use. This is an absolute disgrace, worst one yet. We can't keep on changing managers like we're changing clothes, this madness has to stop.

We need better players Bakayoko,Drinkwater,Barkley are not chelsea quality. We are buying damn injured players giving the manager. Wtf is that all about? And any chelsea fan calling for Conte head needs to go find the nearest cliff and jump off.

I think they'll keep him till the Barcelona game, at least, whatever the results.

I think quite the opposite. Conte looks clueless and unmotivated now. Keeping him in charge for the Barca tie is the same as forfeiting.
I think that Roman would try to put a new manager in charge by then and hope for the players to prove a point of "it's not us it's the manager's fault". We all know how it goes at Chelsea. Different managers, same cnutish owner and same cnutish core of players. Happened to every manager there. Rinse and repeat.

I won't be surprised if they finish 6th this season. Really massively short of quality as much as the players not turning up. They have replaced two mebtally tough players with Costa and Matic with two people of questionable mentality. Their defense is one year older and lacks any kind of decisiveness, Kante's lack of quality on the ball is being found out, Cesc is lacking legs and Bakayoko is crap. Pedro looks short on ideas and can't wait to get back to Spain, Willian and Hazard look like the only possible options with Morata not quite fitting in. They really do have the 6th best team on paper too now, after Arsenal's improvement in the wondow and I wouldn't be surprised if they finish there as well.

City 96
United 84
Liverpool 79
Spurs 78
Arsenal 76
Chelsea 74

That's my prediction for the final table.

That's because the media chooses to love Klopp, and Pep, and Poch. They can get away with so much more than Conte and Mourinho because of it. I don't know much about Chelsea's transfer policy but the media certainly treats some managers better than others (especially when some of those managers are trophyless and further back in the league).

Be interesting to see who replaces him, as there are not currently too many options out there, Luis Enrique, Carlo to go back, surely not Hiddink again?

Just watched the extended highlights, Conte didn't even celebrate the equalizer. Looks like the man who knows he is gone.

Also looked like Bakayoko's sending off was very harsh. It was not a yellow card worthy at all.

We were on another thread and identifying manager's prone to breakdowns: Guardiola, Klopp and Conte. The two latter ones are now primed to blow.

With Jose waiting in the wings I won't be making much of a fuss about any of them - it's barely a month since Mourinho was a goner looking for a way out.

That was really disappointing. It's a fine line between asking good, direct questions and shamefully chasing headlines/goading people.

Thats exactly how it goes. I imagine it matches the mental cycle Roman Abramovich is in any particular year.

The "did I?" would have pissed me off. Would have told him feck off and feck his shitty questions.

Do you? Deloitte's most recent report (January 2018) gives Chelsea's income as 428m euros. That's now only 72m euros above Spurs (and barely above Liverpool). Soon that shrinking gap will reduce radically, when our new stadium comes on stream - and Chelsea have yet to finance their new stadium .... assuming it ever gets built.

The financial competition is rising and Chelsea are being reeled in.

So you're left hoping that your sugar-daddy will continue to deliver sugar. But the signs are that the sugar is drying up.

The difference in us defensively when Christensen plays and doesn't is astronomical, we need him back big time.

I genuinely think he wants to get sacked. TBH if I had the option of a multi million pound pay off to leave a club where you know you'll get sacked eventually anyway, I wouldn't give a shit about the results or my job.

Jose is mentally invincible. He's experienced a Chelsea meltdown and risen from the ashes like an grumpy Portuguese phoenix intent on causing misery to his rivals. I genuinely think he enjoys melting his opponents (look at Chelsea's stats since Jose stuck his oar into Conte) and putting them under pressure more than playing football these days.

His hitlist looks something like this:

Pep: wait till under pressure
Conte: Tick
Klopp: Next Target
Poch: Get RM to sign him
Wenger: Tick
Michael Owen: Tick
LVG: send flowers

'Send flowers'
