You don’t score enough goals.
We scored 23 goals from 13 CL matches last year. Hardly a poor return.

And you spent how much to improve that team and have arguably regressed? We scored 23 goals from 13 CL matches last year. Hardly a poor return.
You weren't expecting to challenge this year? I though you'd be 2ed favorite rather then no chance at all and more at race for top 4 with an awful Man Utd and Arsenal. The football is dire too.
Underwhelming as in outplayed every team we played in the knockouts? Huge fluke that.I'm just saying you are not competing and are playing some poor football. Doesn't match with the WC progressive manager narrative either.
You can’t sell him if no one is buying though. And as I say shifting him on those wages is going to be near impossible I feel.

But we did outplay every team. We won every game whilst being the best team. Xg nerds will confirm.Winning against a team does not necessarily mean you have outplayed them.

Yeah I'm increasingly pessimistic. We'll have to get creative, hence going after something in a swap with Inter potentially? Or if we're absurdly lucky maybe the likes of Atleti will nibble since Suarez's contract expires this summer.
I just don't think you should read too much into you winning the CL, like RDM it can happen if you get the right draw and luck along the way.Clearly we've wasted money on Lukaku - no one is arguing that. But how that diminishes what we accomplished last year is not clear?

Yeah it's a sticky situation. I called him a bottleneck a few pages back and that's honestly how I feel about him.
I know. Don't tell that to the xG crowd though because they don't want to hear about the importance of top players, it's just about magic managers.A huge part of this comes down to injury luck though. Liverpool got destroyed last year but no one thought Klopp was a shit manager - basically every important player at Chelsea this season has missed at least a 2-3 week stretch this season. That hasn't been the case at Liverpool or City.
United fans could have told you thatWe won't be challenging for titles with the likes of Lukaku up front. Club has a very busy summer ahead.

Objectively you weren't the best team in the competition IMO but won anyway. I just think you overperformed, which happens now and then.
Having a higher xG means you have outplayed a team does it?https://fbref.com/en/squads/cff3d9bb/2020-2021/s10096/Chelsea-Stats-Champions-League
We outplayed every single team we played during that run mate. You are grasping at straws.
You’d have to accept a much lower transfer fee then find a club who will pay him mega money. Lukaku is an awkward bastard and won’t help the situation.
It’s really tough. I think you’re stuck with him for the time being.
A CL win without even being able to win your own league is not that impressive anyway. Up there with Porto as the "best team in Europe".Underwhelming as in outplayed every team we played in the knockouts? Huge fluke that.

That makes no sense. Maybe if you mentioned another team who won it without winning their league you'd have a point, albeit a stupid one.A CL win without even being able to win your own league is not that impressive anyway. Up there with Porto as the "best team in Europe".![]()
Would Tuchel try and force him out? Make him so unhappy he’d take anything to go?
No, I disagree with that personally. I don't think you fluked the win but I also don't really think you were the best team on merit. You just overperformed and the better teams underperformed.Yes? At the bare minimum it shows that we didn't fluke any results.

One of the big leagues I meant, obviously. Look, it doesn't matter. Sure you can win it like Man Utd and do a treble or a double, or like Real or like Barca or like Bayern. But even if it is a fluke and you are clearly not the best in the country let alone Europe, it's still something to enjoy. Not the same but good none the less. I am a bit frustrated that United only wins it when they are the best; I'd love to have a few more, even if not deserved, like Chelsea do. You should not feel like it means less; it's still a trophy. That makes no sense. Maybe if you mentioned another team who won it without winning their league you'd have a point, albeit a stupid one.
But it wasn't a fluke. We were the best team in every game we played. It's not that hard to understand. Our CL win in 2012 was a complete fluke and no sane Chelsea fan would argue it wasn't. The only game which was fairly even was our final with City, who were regarded as the best in Europe. And we beat them because we created chances and they didn't, just like in our other 2 wins against them in the previous month. One of the big leagues I meant, obviously. Look, it doesn't matter. I just look at it from the POV of if I was to look at the CL winners in the last 10 years and I had to rank the best to worst I think you'd be near the bottom of that list. That's fair enough - I wouldn't disagree that the draw favoured us, but I just have a hard time understanding how that equates to being one of the most unimpressive sides to win it. For me, that's much more akin to our 2012 side which was played off the park by the likes of Napoli, Valencia, Barcelona, and Bayern at various points.
Thankfully though we did manage to cement that by winning the UEFA Super Cup.
Beating Villarreal on penalties isn't for everyone.

Conceding very few goals is impressive in its own right but to me but it's just not something I particularly value as a Manchester United fan. I just don't find your particular brand of football entertaining, this I said I just don't find it impressive.Ah gotcha. That makes a bit more sense - I think I'm more focused on how the winner performed relative to the competition that year, but your approach is equally valid.
That said, 4 goals conceded!!! That's pretty damn good!
I know; it's the nature of a cup competition. I'm glad you admit about the first one. The second one is only considered a fluke by some, because of what the CL winner is supposed to represent: the best in Europe. That was clearly not Chelsea. It's the format of the cup that at times the best team in Europe wins is, like United did, and Real, Barca etc, and at other times it's some other team. Does that lessen the feeling of wining it or the perception of the neutral fan? Sure. Does it get less talked about or even virtually forgotten? Maybe. It's the same trophy though and I would not object if United won it this year. But it wasn't a fluke. We were the best team in every game we played. It's not that hard to understand. I'm not interested in having a discussion about who the best team in Europe are or the feeling you get in being the best team whilst winning it. You made a point about it being flukey and it's clearly bollocks.I know; it's the nature of a cup competition. I'm glad you admit about the first one. Depends how you would define a 'fluke' really.I'm not interested in having a discussion about who the best team in Europe are or the feeling you get in being the best team whilst winning it. You made a point about it being flukey and it's clearly bollocks.
Is Middlesbrough better then Man Utd just because they've won a game? Of course not. Credit to them but everyone knows the better team lost. Chelsea was like Middlesbrough.Depends how you would define a 'fluke' really.
If it's just something unlikely then yeah, I think it's pretty reasonable to suggest it was a fluke as you weren't the best team in the competition, making you winning it unlikely by definition.

It's not even a wum which is the funny part.come on![]()
