Chelsea appoint Thomas Tuchel

Lot of new manager optimism in this thread. I remember reading lengthy articles about Moyes' scouting / tactical training before he joined and thought we got another Fergie.

Give it a few games until he's had his first loss and we'll revisit!

In other words, 'I'll pop back in here when Chelsea are in a bad moment, the optimism and good vibes are boring' :D

On the contrary, I dislike the doom and gloom even more, but you'll definitely have people here writing him off as soon as you lose one game. The truth is somewhere in the middle, let's calm down a bit!

Yes.

It's right here

I have no proof

Gave up after 8 spoiler clicks. Now it''s driving me crazy that I don't know whether I would have reached the destination after just one more click, and what it would have been. Please, just tell me!

Ha! I can see it in the quote! Thank god I decided to go ahead with this completely needless reply.

I'm pulling your leg, but seriously, we're just reacting to seeing something new. I don't think it's been over the top hype in here, certainly from I've seen, but the immediate improvement is obviously going to be discussed.

It's no wonder CHO continued to look for a way out.

He's not "continued to look for a way out" at all. He requested a transfer under Sarri, when the Bayern rumours were all over the place. Then he signed a contract extension and there have been no further requests to leave.

You shouldn't believe the rumours in the tabloids, it's bad for your health!

I think it was more than just a mere tabloid rumour that we tried again to get him last summer/fall and a (loan) deal was being negotiated. On why it failed, I cannot claim accuracy. :wenger:

Spurs game will be interesting to see if the team is really adapting to his tactics. Right now the players have not had to pass the Mike Tyson test to see if his coaching is really having a real effect.

Iron Mike Tyson "Everybody has a plan....until they get punched in the face"!

Spurs can deliver a punch, I am hopeful defensively we are ready for it.

Even if CHO wanted a move to Bayern (why sign a long contract extension if he did?), that's not really CHO "looking for a way out". I'd bet most players would give it some thought if a club the size of Bayern came sniffing around.

He gave it quite a lot of thought, though, and repeatedly. And I've also explained the reason for the contract extension in an earlier post, remember? I'd like to stick to the narrative that pleases me most, now, if that's ok.

In all honesty though, I'm simply a bit annoyed, as both CHO and Havertz are long term targets of my club and I had the tiny hope that we could pick them up relatively cheaply on a rebound after they'd have flopped/failed to get game time, which the sacking of Lampard and the appointment of Tuchel now has made even more improbable.

Well, there's still a good chance that Havertz flops since the club did so ridiculously stack up on these kind of half spaced attacking positions and the competition there with Ziyech, Mount, Pulisic, and Werner is considerable, and also because his somewhat Özil-esque body language and style of play, combined with the transfer fee, make him a target of public scape-goating in England. But Hudson-Odoi sadly will only kick on from here under Tuchel, fantastic player.

Nah, he thought about it once, for 31 seconds.

Of course I have no way of knowing if what I wrote above is true, same as you.

Ask almost any teenage footballer in the world "do you fancy moving to Bayern Munich on a free transfer" and they'll consider it, they'd be thicker than a whale omlette not to.

CHO either decided that he didn't want to move to there on a free or the interest wasn't that concrete in the first place.

Anyway, Bayern already stole two Chelsea kids, that's enough!

What happens next will SHOCK you

CHO was 15 when Conte took over and 17 when he got sacked. He still made his debut and played a few times under Conte.

Sarri was at Chelsea for 1 season and CHO played 24 times (as a 17/18 year old, that's unheard of at Chelsea at that time).

Lampard played CHO 33 times in his first season and 19 times this season (despite spending £200 million plus on new players and CHO missing a chunk due to a serious injury).

Not sure why you think Sarri or Lampard didn't value CHO, they played him a ton considering his age and the options available.
I don’t follow Chelsea closely. I got the impression because almost every time I saw Chelsea game in whole or in highlight, he has been either absent, used as substitute, or substituted early.
But I have seen his quality a lot and feel he should play much more, at least on the similar game time of Mount.

Well that's just mean. I'd expect this from Bojo11 but not you

No snowflaking please. You can't call someone a fraud without proof and then complain about your feelings being hurt.

Topic: Tuchel has put an exclamation mark after his 1st 2 games. Ruediger for Zouma is one of the (main reasons) for that. He played very well so far.

Lampard had already dropped Zouma for Rudiger. Tuchel didn't bring him back into the side, he was already in it.

Just checked. Actually you are right. Ruediger got a chance when Zouma wasn't in the squad against Villa, then he didn't play against City and got 2 more games vs. Fulham and Leicester.

Speaking of which, is everybody in here familiar with the story of Franco Foda's international debut match for Germany against Brazil?

During his first ever international appearance, on 12 December 1987 in Brasilia against Brazil, Foda was at the centre of controversy. Both at the reading of the team names and later when he was substituted in, he was met with great applause by the Brazilian fans. Foda only found out the next day that this was due to his name translating to "free intercourse" in Portuguese.[3]

Took me until this post of yours to realize your nick name is missing an "l".

Pretty good, eh? Even you must admit that. Simple but effective. Was surprised it wasn't taken yet.

Great win, laboured a little in the second half, clearly need to be more incisive up front but fantastic 3 ponts.

In tuchel chelsea have got a good coach. Top 4 should be a possibility now.

Don’t think I see positive display in that 2nd half from Chelsea but 3 points is 3 points better than 1 or none.
