Chelsea vs Manchester United

It wasn't OFF last year because of the stadium or pitch situation, it was off because of 'risk for people's health on the way and around the stadium' - ice patches, uncleared snow on streets and sidewalks.

No way this is going ahead lads. I've just battled my way from Central London going West, I used the A40, A4 and M4. Not a grain of salt in sight.

For fecks sake, this has been forecast for a week & talked about every day, yet not even the major routes have been gritted. It's a fecking scandle, what a pile of shite this country has become. I'm embarressed to admit being British, what a shambles...

Surely the government must have realised by now that this is going to be a regular occurrence? It was fair enough in '09 as it came out of the blue but it's about fecking time they started investing in solutions to deal with this sort of thing. It's absolutely ridiculous that seemingly nothing has been done yet again to prepare the country for a bit of fecking snow.

The stupid thing in London is many boroughs and councils are unprepared for snow, therefore having road salt shortages. Which is a nightmare when it turns to ice.

Yes, but we've heard nothing else for the last week but about this snow storm. I've seen plenty of gritters out all week, when it was cold but dry. Now, when it's really needed, nothing...

It is a case of the London boroughs having good PR teams but who cannot deliver on what they say.

We are only 90 days away from mayoral elections in London, it isn't the time to go dropping the ball.

On the news tonight TFL were banging on about having record levels of salt/grit supplies this year, so let's hope they get their arses in gear and deploy them.

This is the short spur of motorway that links the M4 with Heathrow, to me it looks untreated.

Why are we cursed with snow when we play Chelsea.

It's not snow and it's not a coincidence. He asks his dad to do sumfing and his dad responds by spreading his gear over the city.

Boris dropped the ball definitively in Clapham last year after the riots. Rarely has a politician looked so hopelessly out of touch.

LBC's eye witness reports are hilarious. Something like 300 people are waiting at a bus stop near the O2 because of the Jubilee being suspended due to snow. Some even waiting for two hours.

It's only twice now and we don't know it's called off yet *fingers crossed*

Would ruin tomorrow afternoon though.

All the weather forecasts anticipate the snow will stop around 5-6am however a quick look outside and it's stopped.....:nervous:

London's motorways right now - the first thing I take from that is virtually no accidents are being reported currently. The other thing is how wide an area snow is falling over - there is 250 miles of motorway or so on this map on each side of the central reservations, London has 40 gritters for them and 1,500 square kilometres of city roads.

The government is to blame for this. The Tory government. fecking Tories.

Unless it's the mayor's fault. The Tory mayor, that would be. Lazy cnut.

Fortunately the Big Society will solve this problem. Even as I speak an army of cockneys is swarming out from their homes armed with shovels and grit-speaders to save the day. Thank god Cameron showed us the way.

It was in Clapham where he addressed the crowds who turned up with their brooms, that was warmly received.

Ken Livingstone on the otherhand dropped a clanger by trying to tie the riots to spending cuts.

Doesn't Stamford Bridge have undersoil heating? Why don't they cover up the pitch when they know it's going to snow? Material doesn't cost much and it takes a few minutes to do so.

There might be a protective cover underneath the snow. Otherwise they've been very clever and will use the "pitch is frozen" excuse.

What material do you propose? I'd hazard a guess that 6.9sq kilometres of material thick enough to protect a pitch from snow would weigh a huge amount and take up a huge space and be totally impractical. Then imagine the work you'd have to do to clear the snow off the material.... and then remove and store the material itself... it's a total no go.

That's how I remember it as well.

However, I wouldn't tie yourself too closely to Boris though, he knows he's pissing in from outside the tent now, and if he can shaft Cameron, he will.

Also public opinion of spending cuts with regard to law and order might change as 'the party of law and order' removes their beat police (re-introduced by Labour) and Support Officers (introduced by Labour), so I'd keep quiet on that one.

Many stadiums in Iceland have one. How do you think we play international games in the winter time.

You clear the snow with manpower. That's what pitch staff members are for. Then you role it off.

What kind of material? You can use similar material that boats use to cover cargo. You know the thick rubbery kind. Kind of like a sail.

I guess you reckon a car can't drive on water either?

edit: I just noticed your number there. How did you come up up with that one? I'm only talking about the grass here.

The pitch is 103m by 67m, meaning the total area of the pitch is 6901sqm.

It is snowing very heavily over here, the match won't go ahead - pretty sure about it. Judging from a naked eye, the snow looks quite a bit more than 15 cm as well already..

Chelsea have some kind divine intervention when it comes to getting breaks against us, whats the betting this postpones and is rescheduled right in a cluster of games with probably a couple of key players injured or suspended and John Terry scores an injury time lucky deflected offside goal.

It really makes you wonder about this country how can they pull us out of the shit when they can't even put the measures in place to stop the country grinding to a standstill at the hint of any snow despite plently of warning.

Not that this is a political thread, but that isn't true at all.

I was part of the clean up at Clapham, Boris left fairly swiftly after being booed and confronted by local business owners. In particular the owner of the hair salon targeted who asked him very publicly why the police had been unable to help them the previous night.

He's been a better Mayor then I thought he would be, but the riots were not his finest hour, nor was he 'warmly received' at Clapham Junction.

Edit: I didn't boo him myself, just to be clear. But a significant number did.

Mhm. You said kilometers before. That's what irked me.

Anyways, what Chelsea is lacking is considered as common sense. Ned Stark needs to go around the the country and hold speeches.

All they need to do is clear the snow and turn on the undersoil heating. I don't think a few hours underneath some snow is going to do the turf that much damage. There's no chance of it being cancelled due to the state of the pitch alone.

The pitch isn't anything to worry about, Stamford Bridge isn't Bloomfield Road. We only have the outside area to worry about, it's all on Clapham council, who won't call it off late, we will know by midday.

The Jubilee line has been down at weekends for 'planned engineering works' for the best part of two years now, that is not news. O2 is still 'world venue of the year' though:wenger:
