Yes, I know.

I was talking about the countries (Germany and France) - not the Leagues. The point is a) that all the major leagues have a much higher vaccination ratio than the PL and b) that the PL has a lower ratio than the national one (unlike the others).

Having covid is nothing to be ashamed about. I don't see why in this case privacy rights are relevant while injuries caused on the pitch are detailed in the press.

If a footballer gets injured, you can read in every news outlet about the exact details of his injury, the treatment he needs, how long he will be sidelined.

COVID-19 is not a football related condition - even though it may seem like it in the case of a mass breakout within a group of players/staff.

Football related injuries are very different, being directly linked to the person's profession (which is, in itself, a matter of public interest). It would create an intolerable amount of speculation if clubs refused to divulge information about football related injuries, including details about how long the player is expected to be sidelined, etc.

For now, behind closed doors should be the priority.
Then, if the situation still spirals out of control (many would argue it already has!), then a break of a few weeks.

How would that help with player cases? Do you think they’re catching it from the fans? Useless whilst the rest of society is open.

There are rumours that after Christmas there could be a 2 week circuit-breaker, that would help as the cases would start to drop and the players would be forced to follow strict protocol.
 
Without a national lockdown it is pointless to stop football, players will continue to return positive tests. They're going to be mingling with family and friends over Christmas and lots will get covid that way. I don't understand the argument to just have a break in the games when it won't change players catching it.

Fecking embarrassing for the league the lack of uptake amongst players for the vaccine, especially compared to other nations.

Seems to be mainly British players too - which should come as no surprise.

Yes indeed, nothing will have changed in 10 days. The main issue here is likely that nothing will have changed next year or in those following either! So leagues need to find a way to deal with it.

You have to get on with it. People are still going on in this thread about the players being vaccinated too, when all evidence is showing it doesn't matter if you're double and boosted or not vaxxed at all with regards to testing positive or not. All the leagues in Europe are going to have this problem as the Omicron variant works its way around.

Then next year it'll be Pi or whatever variant and exactly the same issue.
 
Will be interesting to see what happens when CL/EL and that other one kick in again and if some countries will not let unvaccinated players into the country.

I suppose a two week pause would give clubs the chance the shut their training ground and break the chain of transmission. Because at the moment, infected players who have not yet tested positive are probably spreading it to other players. After that it's all dependent on how strict the players are while at home. They have to be responsible enough not to step out and maintain a small bubble of close friends/family.

Well this is true. But I bet a lot of these cases are down to how lax things have become at the training ground. A pause would allow them to isolate who has it and who doesn’t, and then get in place the necessary protocols. It won’t stop COVID cases happening but may stop the crazy number of cancellations we’re seeing at the moment.

He's been great on this subject throughout. Unlike other managers who have been very wishy-washy when the subject has been broached, even saying we should respect the choice of players who wish to not get vaccinated. Nonsense.

I would love to know who these players are. Probably a tad distasteful to speculate, but part of me would like to see them named, but then you obviously can't do that. It does piss me off, though.

If the PL and EL decide that boxing day games go ahead, surely they have to be behind closed doors?

It seems ludicrous that fans are being encouraged to travel around the country when the most infectious virus is out of control.

In the current scenario - any one thing is not mutually exclusive of another - fans catching it from players, players catching it from fans, fans catching it from other fans.

There is probably no better fertile ground for Omicron to replicate than hundreds of thousands of fans shouting together in packed stadiums. That has to stop first. Football can probably go on as long as players stay put in a secure bubble and as long as there are enough unaffected players in both teams.

Reasons for people not taking vaccine as seen in media (people in general)

Vegan
Beliefs that the virus is a tracking device
Beliefs that the vaccination will kill ethnic races.
The virus doesn't exist
People are just fk Stupid
People will do the opposite of what the government says, because they didn't vote for them
People believe the police will use it to single out ethnic races.
People don't trust 5G
Religion reasons

These are all some I have read and actually heard from people.
 
Clubs have actually said they have brought specialists in and given talks to players about the virus and vaccinations and yet they still won't take the vaccine.

Yeah, I've seen all that and actually heard it from some people myself. Bonkers,.

I was mentioning it in one of these threads yesterday about how some of the younger footballers fell into the conspiracy rabbit hole and is part of the reason why they haven't got vaccinated. These are young people who are very online and have a LOT of time on their hands. Dangerous combination.

EDIT: It's very disappointing and depressing to read about how United are one of the clubs with the lowest vaccination rates in the top flight. Fecking idiots

Remember the good old times when people were concerned that professional sports clubs and leagues will hoard the vaccines for their players before the regular public get theirs?

Those are damning numbers and tie in with my experience living in Italy. I know three people who are unvaccinated and two of them are wavering with the restrictions placed on them by the government. In the UK I know dozens who won't get it. Its embarrassing and makes the league look amateurish with all these cancellations.
 
Are jabs still mandatory for the world cup or has that been scrapped and players will get special exemption?

I think that would help given huge amount of internationals in premier league now.
