If Everton could get a result against Liverpool this weekend, I know I know it's Everton so they won't, and City win it pushes Liverppol clinching the title another 2 weeks away.

Liverpool may wrap up the title inside two weeks, but the relegation battle and the European places will still be ongoing, and most likely still will be going into the final week of the season.

Liverpool could win the title tomorrow and it won't change a thing.

There'll be no way that the PL will allow 22 footballers (plus numerous officials and coaches) onto the field of play of a contact sport.

Spot on, from the PL’s point of view the title is probably the least of their concerns. Relegation places is where most problems could arise. No easy solution. Could go BCD tomorrow and then if players get infected it would have to at least be suspended.

Seriously though, football is a past time and not worth the risk spreading a potentially deadly virus. It baffles me that people think on match days where hundreds of thousands of fans who travel in close proximity to games on public transport, hugging and dancing in pubs and sitting elbow to elbow in a stadium with people shouting and spreading their saliva everywhere is negligible.

Heard various theories on this, even that there may already be a few different strains which makes creating a vaccine much harder. But so much info out there it’s hard to know what to trust.

I read it is mutating, they compared genomes from earlier cases and found differences. Impossible to predict how it will change though.

It was really mild for the majority of those that had it. Death rate is tiny as well. It's just the so many got it that it's a big number, but I remember there being a huge panic at the time anyway. It's the same strand of virus of Spanish flu. Was in high school at the time though so I really don't remember how widespread it got, or if it was focused a lot more in the eastern part of the world.

500k deaths from 1 billion people though. That's 0.05%. This is at 3.4% or whatever of reported cases, which is very big.

Obviously misinformation either purposeful or unintentional is rife. Who knows what to believe; and we all sure as hell don't have the time in our daily lives to commit to digging through data, to become expert debaters, nor to teach ourselves mathematical & scientific disciplines to gain understanding.

Looking through the comments on that article there are some who refute his claims and seem to be quite sure in doing so. He seems to have no credentials, but that's not to say his work is guaranteed to be inaccurate. I imagine the truth is somewhere in between. I also surmise that the real truth here is well and truly under the surface. Time may tell.

Yeah, this is something that really, really worries me as well - especially as a parent.

It's like we've been taken back to the dark ages by this.

I know it sounds presumptuous, but living in the technological age, in a Global superpower country, I kinds thought that they would have serious kit and measures locked and loaded for when this inevitably happened. We've been due a Pandemic for decades, so it surprises me how it's playing out if I'm honest.

I just don't really think that people grasp the severity of the situation - and the unpredictable nature of where this virus might go from here, regarding how it might mutate etc.

I just want things back to normal ASAP, but I'm very doubtful.

I don't think it's outlandish to say that. Again, going back to Spanish flu, it had multiple waves over the course of 24 months. Once the cat is out of the bag and I think it is, then there is no stopping it.

It's possible, especially if we have to wait a long period to have a final count of everything to understand the real death rate.
But it can go either way. Some other epidemics have actually shown worst death rate number when doing the count after a certain period, right?

I read an article that discusses this. As you suspect, the number of undiagnosed cases may well contribute to an inflated death rate; however, the fact that many may have it without realizing it makes it a far greater threat to spread exponentially. Apparently with sicknesses like SARS and MERS, the symptoms were so acute, and the illnesses so deadly, that the infected were more easily (and quickly) identified and isolated, thereby leading to more effective containment.

Given that I don't really understand this stuff, I have no idea how valid that all is, but it certainly seems to make sense.
