Cristiano Ronaldo - performances 2017/18

Wow. I hope the Glazers learned their lesson, never to sell the best players. Not that there will ever be another Ronaldo.

Let's stop up with this. He wanted to leave. What are we supposed to do ? Face it Madrid and Barca for most players are the pinnacle of football, the ultimate target for most footballers. We can't help this.

The mistake wan't using the money for selling him to get proper replacements.

we still have the ronaldo war chest

The technique on that was exquisite. He had no business placing it in the net with such grace and placement, leaving Buffon stranded.

More impressed with him passing the ball back instead of shooting from a tight angle that he's probably scored from before.

Not related to the goal (because my opinions aren't that volatile) but he's definitely cemented his status as a top 5 player of this era at the very least.

I wonder how he feels at the moment. I couldn't sleep knowing I did that. I'd be reading Internet comments all night long with a huge ass smile on my face.

Players with more than 10 goals in the last 3 rounds of the Champions League (quarters, semis and final)

Cristiano Ronaldo - 39
Di Stefano - 32
Puskas - 16
Lionel Messi - 16
Eusebio - 15
Pippo Inzaghi - 13
Raul - 13
Shevchenko - 13
Amancio - 12
Frank Lampard - 11
Didier Drogba - 11
Gento - 11
Gerd Muller - 11
Wayne Rooney - 10

Just 2 of the 39 were penalties and he leads in assists too out of active players, stats are not everything but come on... the greatest player in CL history is either him or Di Stefano.

Something quite poetic about Zidane - scorer of one of the greatest Champions League goals - being on the touchline to witness a goal that history will come to define as equally as remarkable.

No chance pal. One was the trophy winning goal and the other was during quarters in a 3:0.

Final Trumps quarter final

This is the moment where I should go back and quote what some people were saying, not just earlier in the season but as soon as yesterday. I don't think they need pointing out at how stupid they were though. I'll just leave this one here from our Juve fan and Ronaldo hater through the years. Back in 2015...

I won't remember Ronaldo in years to come unless someone brings him up in conversation.

It may seem harsh but it's deserved. Did you clap the goal too @Vialli_92? ;)

Notice how I didn’t say one was better. ;) But rather, remarkable.

History will rank Ronaldo’s goal tonight as one of the finest in the Champions League era.

The 'value' of the goal imo would be part of the definition of 'remarkable'. But if you didn't then no worries. Clearly was an equally beautiful goal. Won't make history though. Quote me on that. ;)

Look at his little pray when he is on the ground. He deserved it. great kick

Greatest CL player of all time.
Greatest goal scorer if all time.
Greatest European player of all time.
Can barely watch him without getting angry.
Real Madrid have essentially bought 3CLs, 2 league titles, countless cups and 500 goals for £80m.
While we are wallowing in mediocrity.

I think it will, for the standing ovation alone - that’s a rarified sight and one that will not be discounted when recalling the most memorable Champions League goals.

Top 5  !?
I know Messi’s there - but please, who are the other three? This era? So you’re not even including Maradona and Pele? Again, who are the other three?

Ronaldo and Messi are the GOAT, just not possible to argue away from it, looking at their stats, trophies and longevity. The guy’s got 120 goals in the Champions League alone, that’s more than most strikers get in their entire career in all competitions.

That and generally an entire first XI that is better than ours. Keeper aside (and Navas is top quality anyway) they shit all over us individually and as a team.

Yes, the reaction will make it iconic just like we did with the original Ronaldo at Old Trafford and Madrid fans (to be very fair to them) have done for Ronaldinho and Messi.

Top 5 of this era!:wenger:

He should be around the likes of ... let me think ... still thinking ... ah Iniesta is the first that comes to mind behind Messi and Ronaldo. Who else? ah yes Neymar and, erm, Ribery?

Already forgot about it

As long as a club has the ambition to be European champions and sign the best players and become worlds best, the players will follow. We as a club were becoming stale and too dependent on Fergie to sail us through.

Also, Fergie's old school principles of not overpaying in the transfer market put united stale as a club in later years. We didn't show enough ambition as a club and always punched below our weight in the transfer market after the Glazer takeover, but thank god situation is changing now since Mourinho and ed Woodward took over. We are getting our mojo back in the market.

All Real Madrid and Barcelona's has done as a club is to pay their way into getting the best players on best wages to get to that level, and therefore players follow them and want to be part of that ambition, history and glory. It was, is, and will be always about the money and ambition.

But the soon the situation is going to change due to the massive inflation in football which will make it impossible for all the clubs to cherry pick all these players in few seasons to build this level of teams when Messi and Ronaldo dwindle into the twilight of their careers.

The process has already begun when the likes of Barcelona and Madrid can no longer pay their way into getting galacticos in one team with this inflation.

As long as Woodward and Mourinho punch according to our weight in the transfer market and be an elite level European contenders we won't be in a situation to lose our elite level performers in their prime for prices we later come to regret about.

When does the era start? Biblical times?

It's a safe comment. Of this era there are a few (non-goalscoring) players I'd put up there with him. And I've not bothered numerically ranking him.

That goal was a genuine jaw dropping moment. Unbelievably good.

Still doesn't make him as good as Messi, but he's very possibly second.

I find it funny how Neymar left Barcelona to be out the shadow of Messi. He is still well and truly hidden in Ronaldos as well.
