Cristiano Ronaldo - performances 2017/18

I find it funny how Neymar left Barcelona to be out the shadow of Messi. He is still well and truly hidden in Ronaldos as well.

I find it incredible how many “new Ronaldo’s“ and “new Messi’s” they’ve seen off between them.

Flavour of the months come and go, other potential Ballon Dor winners come and go, but no one can get close to matching them on a consistent basis.

Every year people start saying this is when the likes of Neymar, Dybala, Mbappe, Hazard, Bale etc start to take over but now some of those players are well into their prime or past their prime without ever really having a sniff at getting close.

Feck me. Thought he was done for at the start of the season.

Nope. Still on top of his game. What a fecking legend.
I'll hold up my hands on that one too. How fecking wrong was I, this guy is like a man possessed these last few weeks. Absolute legend.

Long may it continue

That's the second year in a row he got me with his 'looking-like-past-it' skit at the first half of the season. He'll probably get us again next year. Eventually though, he should slow down. Maybe....

This is what makes both players incredible. How many times did we hear Hazard was going to replace Ronaldo when he was in his 30s? Hazard goes missing pretty much 3 months of every season. Same for all the others. Mbappé is still very young but at the moment he’s fully relying on his pace rather than his technical ability. I can’t see many players giving the sacrifice to do what Ronaldo does.

The only way he slows down is if Madrid decline

He doesn't even need pace to score his goals he makes the runs and the team plays the balls to him

Unless he mentally collapses hellhbe scoring goals for a long time

*Year 2031*

“For fecks sakes he’s gotten me again!”

:D

Trollnaldo strikes again. I swear it’s like he was just killing everyone to sleep in the first have of the year.

Better than Rooney against Citeh?

Rooney seems to shin it unlike Ronaldo's height and perfect contact but Rooney's rocket to the top corner perfectly

Absolute magic today.

Fair play to the Juventus fans as well for applauding a piece of champions league history.

Who even gives a feck about the league anyways

Carry on.

Pay him what he wants

And see how much a cloning device would cost. A better use of €300m than Hazard and whoever else

He won't turn to shit out of nowhere one day to the other and he's very professional about the regime he goes through to be in top shape but he still needs time to recover and hit this godly form.

So I really wonder how long he can keep up like this and it feels like he would have to give up national football at one point to extend his club career at this level but knowing him he will only call it quits if he wins a World Cup or something.

Not bad for a 33 year old
 Insane

What a magical night of football for us.

For the last 2 seasons it appears he's managing himself to be at his physical peak post Christmas. Can Real Madrid allow him to leave if they don't pay up for a new contract?

It's annoying that the other guy has to be referred to when it's just a damn special football event for all fans to cherish. That is an iconic moment by an iconic player .. what a goal it was, defied gravity and was explosive yet divinely beautiful in equal measure. Probably the most gorgeous overhead kick I've ever seen.

As long as a club has the ambition to be European champions and sign the best players and become worlds best, the players will follow. We as a club were becoming stale and too dependent on Fergie to sail us through.

Also, Fergie's old school principles of not overpaying in the transfer market put united stale as a club in later years. We didn't show enough ambition as a club and always punched below our weight in the transfer market after the Glazer takeover, but thank god situation is changing now since Mourinho and ed Woodward took over. We are getting our mojo back in the market.

All Real Madrid and Barcelona's has done as a club is to pay their way into getting the best players on best wages to get to that level, and therefore players follow them and want to be part of that ambition, history and glory. It was, is, and will be always about the money and ambition.

But the soon the situation is going to change due to the massive inflation in football which will make it impossible for all the clubs to cherry pick all these players in few seasons to build this level of teams when Messi and Ronaldo dwindle into the twilight of their careers.

The process has already begun when the likes of Barcelona and Madrid can no longer pay their way into getting galacticos in one team with this inflation.

As long as Woodward and Mourinho punch according to our weight in the transfer market and be an elite level European contenders we won't be in a situation to lose our elite level performers in their prime for prices we later come to regret about.

All that good talk but won't change the fact Ronaldo wanted to leave. He wanted to join Madrid. That's all. We had nothing to do.

I don't think Madrid and Barca just "paid" their way to that. Even with other great teams around, Madrid and Barca were always considered the ultimate target for most footballers. Many of them see their career lacking without getting a chance at on of them. Always have been always will be. Not gonna change.

You should. He's got a couple of years at this level at least, and much more importantly, who would replace him?
And even more to the point, we promised him a raise in Cardiff. Now there are no excuses to renege on that promise. So we will pay.

Him being value for money is kind of a bonus

They both have 4 champions leagues and Messi is 3 years younger, he'll easily surpass Ronaldo is european goals.
Messi doesn't turn up in big games like CR

CRonaldo's cl campaign last season is the best ever recorded by any player in history. Most assists, most goals, he is easily on par with Messi when it comes to playmaking. Look at his assist today for Marcelo.

If you put Ronaldo in our current team we would win the EPL with 100 points

I watched the game with my 8 year old, before hand he said "I dont like Ronaldo or Messi!" I said in football you dont have to like people to learn from them, and as I was pointing out the way Ronaldo ran for the ball, had a chance at goal but tried to set up his team mate there I was pointing out why players like Ronaldo are famous he then goes and scores THAT goal!

My lad then spent the next 10 minutes trying to figure out how he actually scored that goal and in the end settled for, thats impossible!

Brilliant goal, brilliant build up to it and brilliant from the Juventus supporters who gave Ronaldo grief throughout up until that goal!

It was the world record by almost 25 million at the time.

Hindsight's 20-20. I don't think anyone on here thought he'd score more than a goal per game at Real.
All true, still doesn't take the pain away though :(

Why is this statement starting to crop up? Not true at all

Please use this thread for any Ronaldo/Messi comparisons and discussions, henceforth — this is a performance only thread.

@gibers doesn't mean it, check his other posts here. When Ronaldo's not doing as well he lets it all out via a bunch of criticism, when Ronaldo's doing well, he lets it out via pretending to be a deluded fan of Ronaldo. I have no idea why.

Ronaldo has 39 goals in the qf,sf and final of the Cl which is equal to the number of goals our top scorer in Europe has scored overall

I am speechless... another 2 crucial goals away against top opponents.... both goals are top class, one of them I would say is goal of the season, absolutely stunning

He just loves terrorizing the best defences in the world doesn't he? He's made a mockery out of Juventus and Bayern's backline the last few years.

In before his haters say "HE DID NOTHING THIS GAME, EXCEPT TWO GOALS"
