As long as a club has the ambition to be European champions and sign the best players and become worlds best, the players will follow. We as a club were becoming stale and too dependent on Fergie to sail us through.
Also, Fergie's old school principles of not overpaying in the transfer market put united stale as a club in later years. We didn't show enough ambition as a club and always punched below our weight in the transfer market after the Glazer takeover, but thank god situation is changing now since Mourinho and ed Woodward took over. We are getting our mojo back in the market.
All Real Madrid and Barcelona's has done as a club is to pay their way into getting the best players on best wages to get to that level, and therefore players follow them and want to be part of that ambition, history and glory. It was, is, and will be always about the money and ambition.
But the soon the situation is going to change due to the massive inflation in football which will make it impossible for all the clubs to cherry pick all these players in few seasons to build this level of teams when Messi and Ronaldo dwindle into the twilight of their careers.
The process has already begun when the likes of Barcelona and Madrid can no longer pay their way into getting galacticos in one team with this inflation.
As long as Woodward and Mourinho punch according to our weight in the transfer market and be an elite level European contenders we won't be in a situation to lose our elite level performers in their prime for prices we later come to regret about.
