It will be a shame when someone other than the big two gets the award, not a single player has come even remotely close to the all round levels and consistency of Ronaldo/ messi the last decade.

The more interesting matter is that he actually coerced Real into another 5yr contract, with yet another payrise. Quite remarkable for a nearly 32yr old player
I agree if he came out as gay or bisexual (obviously if he actually is not just for the sake of it) it would be a great moment for a lot of others who find it tough to gather the courage and say it out loud, especially considering his global reach and fanbase.

The players want security in the last years of career so Madrid had not an alternative.
Despite the debate about his decline he is the top scorer of the club,an icon that brings a lot of money and really beloved in Bernabéu despite the whistles.
After or before the reality of Madrid requirements will surpass him,he won't stay until 2021 and probably the club will have to pay a fat settlement but they should be generous after what he did for the club.

it will go down as Florentino's biggest mistake (and there are many) unless he sells ronnie to PSG or a chinese club within 2 years. Normally a team of the quality of RM can get away playing with 10 men except for the fact that they're competing with Barça for titles

It's a thank you payment. If I was a Madrid fan, I'd hope there is some sort of agreement in place that he can be rotated as he gets older without drama.

I'm surprised Madrid agreed to his demands of a five year contract, maybe it's like Kobe Bryant who got a pay rise as a token of appreciation of what he has done for them even though it was evident he was on a decline but surely these numbers can't be true?!? Unfortunately a decline is inevitable. He is 31/32 (?) so to say that decline will show itself this season, probably not as plenty of players still play well on that age and Ronaldo's physique is crazily good anyway.
Knowing that circus he will go on to score another 150 goals over the next five years. I genuinely wouldn't put that past him due to how well he looks after himself. I cannot see him dropping back into a deeper role which wouldnt require as much explosiveness but rather his intelligence and experience because I genuinely don't think his persona would suit playing so selflessly.

His contract was finishing in 2018, can't go into the new year with him having only a year left on his contract.
We get a huge chunk of his image rights and he brings a lot of money into the club in terms of endorsements and sponsorship, more than anyone else ever has and more than anyone in football currently does, even at 32. So the money in wages isn't actually a worry.
I think he still has a lot to offer this club, he just needs to accept being subbed from time to time and having a few games off a year.
At the end of the day he is one of our greatest players ever and deserves the accolades and the rewards that come with it and as we saw in the UCL last season he can still decide a game and I don't think that ability disappears in just 6 months.
It's one of mixed feelings on this one. On the one hand, yes, his decline is clearly visible to all and he will frustrate the hell out of us in a lot of games but on the other hand, he has been vital for our 10th and 11th CL wins and is the club's all time top scorer. If it's his wish to finish his career in Madrid it would have been incredibly harsh to show him the door.
Also, it wouldn't surprise me if this new deal would fire him up and make him overcome this current slump he's in.
He's never suffered with motivation though.
