Friends of poetry, good evening !
Anyone who thought he wouldn't make any mistakes, is a cnut with no brain who doesn't know football.
Alan Smith on sky is a complete cnut. Who the frig is he to talk about how confident De Gae is feeling, and why is he highlighting 2 challenges which the shit ref should have blown for as a sign of weakness...I'm sure Smith would have managed to have plucked that ball from the air with an elbow in his face.
Redknapp can do one aswell. The rare occasion this afternoon when he removed Torres' cock from his mouth he never stopped going on about a mistake from a 20 year old lad. I hope Gaz chins him by the end of the season.
Anyone see Jones telling De Gea to use his elbox at the end of the game?
First game I played - first corner I got an elbow in my throat as I cleared the ball. Went tumbling into the nets. Ref played on.
Next corner I came with my elbow and hit the oppostion player he didnt try it again. Other times I would come with my knee - a GK first thought should be protect yourself and then get the ball - dont leave yourself open to a big hit.
Hate to be critical because he's a young guy but there were shades of Barthez in his performance today. You can only play attack minded football if you can be sure that when it breaks down what's behind you is solid and De Gea's mistakes are going to become a monkey on our backs if he doesn't sort it out soon just like conceding late goals away from home was last year.
De Gea's clearly talented and he's very good when forced into instinctual saves showing the talent is there. But right now he seems to be over thinking everything, he's lacking composure and confidence at the moment and he needs to assert himself and assert himself fast. Plus in signing for United he knew what he was coming to, this is a rough league, keepers don't get that same level of protection they get in La Liga. He can't just assume that if he gets touched play will stop. He seriously needs to toughen up and show more willingness to come through a crowd.
If De Gea doesn't shake his low morale it will effect our play. I hope he gets his head in the game soon.
...does not belong in here.common sense post.
This boy is special, I can just see it. He's what..20 years old? And he's a fecking goalkeeper. You're looking at a good 10 years until you're seeing anything close to the best of him. His control and distribution look superb; very much like Van der Sar.
Young players will make mistakes, its how they react to them that is key and he stayed composed and was simply physically bullied by the opposition in the second half; thats not a mistake, its just a lack of experience in this league, which can only be rectified with more games.
TBH its not just the goals he's let in that is the problem.
Its the general aura of nervousness that he exudes. Looks terrible at crosses. He flapped several balls, a lot of times being nowhere near getting enough to get the ball away. I think he left the defenders confused a couple of times when he didn't come to claim the ball. He needs to work a lot on his command of the area and not just his shot stopping.
Still think he is a major talent who'll be here for a long time but I wouldn't be surprised to see Lindegaard wrestle the no.1 from him for this season atleast.

Think you're 100 per cent right. It's not about his talent. It's just about confidence and that'll come in time. How will depend on him - people react in different ways. He might react well to a show of faith, or initially that could put added pressure on him. He's only 20.
First things First. He is no way.... 6'4".

Which is why we need to get behind him.
Look at how people were on Fletchers back (myself included) for years when he was shunted out to right wing. It helps no one.
I trust that people can tell the difference between a complete dud and one that is lacking in confidence.
I don't disagree that we have to get behind him, but if his presence unsettles the outfield players, that has to be addressed. The team has to have confidence in each other. I'm sure Fergie can find a way of taking the pressure off him, and if that does involve resting him, there are ways of doing it so that he doesn't feel that his ability is under question.

However advocating subbing him in only his 2nd game would have been a ludicrous idea altogether even if he was having a massive impact on the rest of the team.
I felt he should have been taken off when it seemed that his confidence was gone - when you're drawing, it's not the time to show faith because it looked to me like the rest of the team was unsettled.
He's only 20 though, and it can't be easy being in a new team and a new country. Needs nurturing a bit more
I actually felt in both the charity shield and this one he became more confident in his area once Vidic and Ferdinand went off. Who knows maybe the injuries to the pair of them may help him settle in quicker.
I didn't advocate subbing him immediately.
I said I wouldn't be surprised if Lindegaard is the no. 1 at some point this season.
..
If he got subbed any bit of confidence he has might completely be shattered.
Seems like he is a bit surprised (not to say shocked) about the game played in England. I dont think he expected it to be like that but nevertheless, he will be great if given time.
Anyone remember the first 6 months of Evra or Vidic? They were shit but had both much more experience and were much older...[/QUOTE-
but i think in spain they also tried kicked balls past him![]()
Young and learning isn't going to be an excuse for very long. Back-to-back games letting in shockingly straightforward shots. That is going to take a toll on his confidence pretty quickly. Young keepers always struggle and rarely succeed the first time they play for a big club. Playing for United places all players in the spotlight, especially the GK.
Most of us can remembered the debacle trying to replace the Great Dane. Its really tough for any GK to take over from a legend. I just hope he finds his form and mental toughness before his confidence takes a real knock.
