David Moyes | West Ham in talks with him for managerial job

Yes but I don't see the need for papers need to highlight gender in headlines. It shouldn't matter if it was said to a women or a man.

True. Very true.

The media are the ones being sexist in that way.

Moyes is a shit manager, weirdly they never write about that, but he has a joke with a reporter and they go all out...

I think it's also offensive to the reporter in question. Did she want this story blown up like this. Was she actually offended? Everyone thinks their defending her but I think it's misguided like she a women that needs to be saved. How about give her some respect and allow her to clarify her position first.

They'll sack him before they play us in an attempt to get a reaction from the players. Guaranteed.

How the feck is this sexist? PC gone mad.

The shadow sports minister is a fecking idiot. Let me guess? That's me being racist because she's a female. "Is it cos I is a woman" is the new "is it cos I is black?".

It was misogynistic. Highlighting her gender. He was trying to be assertive while being funny, but it comes across as old school.

Just seen this on BBC news, and first thought is media blowing up something out of nothing. The whole newspapers and tv news is filled with nonsense 'celebrity' news or over reactions to things like this. Its not sexist in anyway. Seen the quote and can't find anywhere where he said he'd slap her because shes a woman, in fact he said the opposite, he was given her a bit of respect for being a woman, meaning women shouldn't be hit ideally.

The fact I'm wasting my time posting about this non story, typical BBC/mainstream news blowup out of nothing is only adding to the problem. Best thing we can all do is ignore it, and ignore any other do gooder groups or spokespeople who chip in over reacting to whatever group they represent. Of all the serious things going on, that we should be reacting about, nonsense like this gets headline, attention, punditry comments and radio debate. At the end of the day, its football, get a grip.

IMHO a nothing story. He's just trying to be the Loved one.

It's not entirely a nothing story - if the reporter has actually filed a complaint then there are grounds for Sunderland to sack Moyes with no compensation.

He may have been joking, so why apologise if he felt he hadn't done anything wrong?

In any case, he's really stupid to make that comment. Deserves every bit of scrutiny. I bet he doesn't 'joke' like that with all his male journo pals who he happily treats to dinner and stuff. No wonder they say nothing about his horrendous coaching stints.

What he said was a joke. Both he and the reporter were laughing Should be clever enough to realise there will be backlash despite the fact its a joke. So easy to be taken out of context.

Deserves to be warned about the comments, however the reason why he should be fired is because he is a woeful manager.

Delighted for the senile cnut. Wish him years of misery in the lower leagues, where he belongs. As opposed to his imagination where he believes he belongs amongst Europes best.

He should be grateful for the chance we foolishly provided him with, the attitude he has towards us since leaving is baffling.

Hated his managerial ability when he was here, but felt pity for a man out of his depth. Pity no longer exists, deserves the worst faith of a football manager.

Seriously?

I think he would be in trouble if he said he was going to slap a male reporter too in fairness

The man is an idiot. He seriously doesn't have a clue how to handle media. You'd think someone would give some media training.

Did you read that back before you posted?

Just shows how words can be spun completely differently though.

Definitely not sexist, but silly of him to even say it. No reporter should be "slapped" for asking a question and doing there job, but what LVG did was 1000x worse and that was soon swept under the carpet.

He's clearly saying "I'll give you a slap" as a bit of playful banter. I don't like the guy but it's a bit of a witch hunt IMO.

He repeats it twice which makes it sound like a bad joke at best and somewhat of a sinister future warning at worst.

I think it's clear as day he didn't mean he was going to hit her if she was a man but the exchange does make him look like an unlikeable nob.

Good point.

He's laying down the law to her making it clear he wasn't happy with that question and doesn't want it asked again.

If it was a bloke he wouldn't have mentioned his gender so to me it does come off as sexist.

Also he sounded a bit too serious towards the end didn't sound like he was joking.

It might've been a joke, but that doesn't make it okay. A man in his position should know better. He's an arsehole who knows he's fecked if he gets sacked and the pressure is gettting to him.

Maybe I'm wrong about this.

But I just didn't like the idea of everything thinking on the behalf or someone else without hearing their version of events first.

Would you get upset becasue of such comment? I wouldnt.
If you were a female trying to forge a career covering men's football and be taken as seriously as a male journalist you might get upset. He would obviously never have said this to a man.

He was excellent against Burnley again. Shame the players could not follow.

You don't need Moyes' opinion on the matter to know it wasn't a 'light hearted' joke. The audio confirms it was a semi-serious joke with a pretty clear meaning of 'don't ever ask me that again.'

He's not the only manager to get on like that though to be fair but I don't remember any managers mentioning slapping people though, joking or not.

Disgraceful.
Hopefully this will be the end of him in football... he can now slither off underwhatever rock he came out from and tell anyone who'll listen to him how he 'should have had more time' at Utd.
A millionaire fraudster and charlatan of the highest order.
Genuinely hope it's the last I ever see of his flesh-coloured beady eyes set in his skeletor face. Absolutely abhor the man.
Hope he takes his tall Belgian love-child with him to work as poolboy.

Sorry mate, Tuesday you'll be seeing him again.

I personally think that that second tweet is a load of shit. After watching the video, it 100% came across as a joke. A bad joke, but a joke nonetheless.

Guys guys come on it's not his fault.

He thought he had 6 interviews to get it right

yeah I am trying to think of another similar incident

But I cannot think of any manager ever kindve seriously/jokingly threaten a reporter. Has anyone here ever joked about slapping a colleague or someone doing their job?

I think he might have to resign over this. Its just not the done thing, no matter if the reporter is male or female. But Its almost definitely worse because she is female

I hate Moyes, I said it whilst he was United he came across a proper nasty character. His attitude towards reporters was horrid at times and I always maintained it wasn't in fitting with our club.

I know Sir Alex wasn't always the nicest of guys but you always felt he was a nice guy generally, I don't get that feeling with Moyes. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Sunderland use this as an excuse to sack him.

If he gets sacked for this, it will only mask the utter incompetence that led up to it and he will go back to playing the victim once again.

He had better not get sacked or resign. I want Sunderland's relegation on his CV.

If not you know he'll come out with "well I wasn't relegated".

If Moyes gets sack for this, he pretty much played a blinder on Sunderland. Escape relegation on his own, get paid for his remaining contract. Will spin thing around getting the new gig with his friend backing him saying "he definitely can turn thing around, had he stayed"...

I think it's a bad joke though. Nothing more.

Be hilarious if he had to resign over this, which really was only a joke after all, he's just not a very funny man.
If so, he's the one hell of comedian. I meant he somehow gets himself out of Sunderland. They being relegated wouldn't be on his CV, next time he turned up for another job. He has backing in the media to spin thing around after all. Sunderland already Moyesified by accepting they're terrible & Moyes is their only hope. And here people laughing about him making the bad joke... Master inceptionist

if someone said "careful the next time you come in" the way he did, I'd have said "or else what, what you gonna do Davie?".
If you were a female trying to forge a career covering men's football and be taken as seriously as a male journalist you might get upset. He would obviously never have said this to a man.

If we work under the assumption that he was serious and wanted to warn her and that then fine, you're right guys. My personal opinion is that he wasn't that serious. My boss often tells me to feck off to which i reply "i love you too". no big deal. I guess it all depends on relations betewen two parties.
