David Moyes | West Ham in talks with him for managerial job

I personally think that that second tweet is a load of shit. After watching the video, it 100% came across as a joke. A bad joke, but a joke nonetheless.
Not the first time he's sounded snide like that, about time he gets called out on it.

I fecking hate Moyes but after watching/listening to that it was obvious it was tongue in cheek - no way anyone can be stupid enough to call for his head for that comment.

Why are people saying it was a joke when Moyes hasn't even used that defense? He could have easily said it was a poor attempt at humour but instead said he made a mistake in the heat of the moment, which suggests he wasn't exactly in a jokey mood being directly asked about his future after a poor result.

I don't know, maybe you are right but the tone of his voice suggests it is said in a light hearted way - it's easy to hear. The reporter was also laughing.

Poor David. It never rains, it pours. And then he gets fired. But then he realises he's not poor, he's actually quite rich. He also realises that there'll be another club out there desperate enough to give him another opportunity. Way to go, David.

Im sure he wasnt really going to slap her

But do you not find it a bizarre comment to make either way?

If we work under the assumption that he was serious and wanted to warn her and that then fine, you're right guys. My personal opinion is that he wasn't that serious. My boss often tells me to feck off to which i reply "i love you too". no big deal. I guess it all depends on relations betewen two parties.
I don't think anyone believes he was actually threatening her. The problem is more do you think he would have said the exact same thing to a male journalist?

And your analogy isn't quite the same as you have an existing relationship with your boss and you work at the same company. This woman has nothing to do with Sunderland, has no history with Moyes and was just doing her job in a professional manner and he decides to try and be funny because shes a female.

Yeah I'm not saying he literally meant he was going to slap her. I don't think it was an attempt at humour though. More like a terribly misguided attempt at trying to mildly intimidate/bully a reporter who asked him a tough question. Something like a "I better say something here so people think twice before asking me about my future the next time". Managers do it all the time, he's just incredibly shit at it and ended up making it inappropriate.

The guy can't catch a break

Some keep mentioning that she laughed. You never laughed at some eejit at work (after a bad joke or an insult to someone you like etc) just to keep things cool before swiftly moving on?

Well, if they have to pay him off to sack him they might as well use this as an excuse to sack him without paying him for relegating them and destroying what little fight they had in them.

I wonder if Sunderland might have been wise enough to put a relegation clause in his contract?

Would absolutely hate the Shar-Pei faced cnut to stroll away with yet another paycheck for being a failure and bringing nothing but misery.

Cut him some slack, beating up women is a sign of respect in his part of the world.

It would be interesting to know who leaked this two weeks after the incident took place. Maybe he's not too popular at the BBC.

As for Moyes, he's not very bright, is he? However he meant it, it really doesn't sound good. Still, considering this club kept playing Adam Johnson when they/their CEO knew he was pleading guilty to some of the charges, I doubt they'll sack Moyes over his social ineptitude.

Maybe he meant she should be careful about coming to the stadium again because the quality of football might kill her. He's just a caring man.

Once an average manager - always one. Never have had any respect during Utd days or before or after.

If Jose Mourinho said that to a reporter he'd have been crucified.

I wish I could be this bad at my job and still make millions out of it.

Genuinely curious to see where Moyes ends up 5 years from now.

If I, or probably anyone on here, even in jest threatened to slap a female in the workplace, that'd be that. Sorted, and rightly so, I might add. Pressure situation or not, jokingly or serious, apology or not. Really, really poor form and nobody should make excuses for such behaviour.

Taking the heat off Mourinho's comments about Shaw. Good guy Moyes.

I might give it a try now...12 minutes left at work.

I could end up a millionaire, or a bum on the street.

Kind of exciting.

I think he will be sacked over this. Now that it's picking up traction, there will probably a lot of pressure on the Sunderland board. Especially, considering how they handled Johnson's situation.

Might be in a minority but personally think this has been blown out of proportion. The audio gives a lighter tone than the text.

Agreed, if they can avoid a payoff ,somehow, then he's a goner.

What's amazing is that his thread is 91 pages long since he became Sunderland manager. I'd hazard a guess, most of the 3605 posts are taking the fecking piss out of him. What a clown.
