David Moyes | West Ham in talks with him for managerial job

"David is a man of great integrity with a strong work ethic"

when that is the best to describe a manager, its not a good sign.

Mourinho was still at his best in 2013. He would have been the best choice to replace Sir Alex.

He would have been the best choice no doubt. I don't think Mourinho is past his best though, 2 years ago he won the league. He's still pretty young for a manager, i think he has plenty left to offer.

People writing him off is very odd. Although it seems en vogue to be negative towards him at the moment.

Hard working style, determination, work ethic. It's like saying ugly bird is a nice and likeable person cause sure as hell you can't say she's sexy and good looking.

Seriously one of the darkest days in the history of the club.

Yeah thats the craziest part of that story, and to think there were United fans who were delighted we'd appointed Moyes and not Mourinho. :wenger:

On one side you had the media praising him, repeating his stories about how it's not his fault, saying he's a good man and good manager and needed time. On the other side you had half our fanbase saying the same thing, talking about his character, right man for the job, refusing to admit he was doing a poor job and needed time simply because "SAF said so". I often wondered at the time if I was going mad, and other people were seeing something in Moyes that I couldn't see.

Frustrating times.

Horrific moments of that dreaded season passed by my mind as I was reading that article of his announcement as utd manager.

How wrong were those quotes...

Those quotes are as bizarre today as they were 4 years ago, probably even more so. I believe Moyes was the 1st choice to succeed Ferguson, i will always be baffled by what the feck the club was thinking around that time. Appointing Moyes made no sense on any level.

In a way, maybe we needed that as a club.

United needed to wake up to reality and stop believing that we could do things our way(even badly) and still get away with it.

The "value signings" of the last few years culminated with a value manager.

An awful appointment yes, especially as the clubs had done the exact same thing when Sir Matt Busby retired. How you could do the very same thing 40 years later is unforgivable. Its one of the worst decisions ever made at this football club, and arguably English football.

That was painful.

We were basically branded gloryhunters or spoiled for seeing what was right in front of our eyes. The emperor's new clothes all over again.

Always noticeable how SAF's comments regarding DM were 99% about Moyes' integrity and work ethic rather than his ability. It seems that, like many of us, Sir Alex hoped that Moyes would rise to the occasion...instead of expecting him to.

Yeah that is maybe the most frustrating part of it, the club just didn't learn from history.

His style and the fact he could win the games playing mind games are a bit outdated.

The emphasis on praising Moyes's work ethic gave it away - it's a bit like giving an ice hockey player credit for being to able to skate. And the sad thing is, judging by his failure to develop as a manager following his first 4-5 years at Everton, it seems he wasn't even that hard working.

Thats possible of course but i heard people say the same of Ferguson loads of times over his career. He always came back, i think Jose can too. Hell he could still finish this season with 2 trophies.

"Spoiled" and "glory-hunter" were the 'in-sayings' around here for most of Moyes' tenure. What an abomination of an appointment.

I'm curious how he's going to go about rebuilding for the championship

I imagine selling most if not all of the squad will be part of his master plan. After all when a team managed by David Moyes fails it must be the players fault.

So, if he does leave "by mutual consent", where next for Moyes? I doubt a PL club would take him after the last 4 years (particularly the last 12 months) and the Celtic job is taken. Scottish national team once Strachan gets the boot? He can have a field day playing down expectations in that job. One of football's new frontiers like China (the "Hoisin One")? Or early retirement (punditry presumably off limits due to charisma vacuum)?

I would love for him to get a crack at managing Barcelona next year. Honestly. They either win the champions league again, despite Moyes, because they have the players to do it; or they go skidding down the table until Moyes is fired again. Either way, would be fun to watch as a neutral, or maybe not too neutral.

 How the feck was this clown ever our manager?! :nervous:

Optastat have algorithmed Moyes vs Mourinho's relative quant formations and, according to them, Moyes would have us 4 more points this season. Maybe we should have given him that war chest.

Is that from all our crossing to Zlatans head?

We did - he just had absolutely no idea how to use it. He wasn't denied any money.

Not true. He was denied the 55 million he wanted for Fellaini's brother.

Was watching videos of Zidane training with Real Madrid and this came up on the sidebar...
