He will go back to his home town sooner rather than later.
We're fans.Yeah would rather keep him for the year than have such a shite fee. £25m+ I think.
Remember Keane and his "prawn sandwich brigade" jibe at the fans.
Players expect fans to stand by them and show them loyalty when they are going through a rough patch. So why shouldn't fans expect some back from the players. You cannot have it both ways where you say that fans should cheer for the players and root for them and then not expect anything in return except performances. If performance is the whole thing that matters then the players are getting paid for that. They shouldnt have to want the fans to cheer for them.
Football is not just some other profession, no matter how much you try to justify it. For starters, I don't get cheered by 80k people every time I step into the frickin office.
Because De Gea, like you and I, is a human being with emotions like everybody else, irrespective of his chosen profession. If he will be a happier man in Madrid and decides to move there then all power to him. Or would people rather he stay somewhere he'd rather not be out of some overstated loyalty to some knuckle-dragging, bone-headed football fans that have inflated their role above and beyond the pointless entity it really is?
Football fans can feel as involved as they want, but they have no right to be "disgusted," or whatever word it was you used, at the possibility of De Gea choosing to leave. Being a bit narked that the best goalkeeper is leaving is understandable. Wishing he would rather stay is of course normal. But any overwhelming sense of injustice in regards to what a grown man has chosen to do for the perceived betterment of his life is taking things far too seriously.
As for being committed to the cause. On this season's evidence then I think it's fair to say that he has been. Come the summer, he'll just move and commit to another cause in another country. No biggie, really.
Stop playing Sir Moral on his high horse !
We have every right to be disgusted. Everything is about choices. If DDG leaves he made the choice that he prefers Real Madrid over us and he also made the choice (together with his agent) in running down is contract to facilitate that move. Now we are talking about a young lad whom was brought here by SAF himself for £20m, whom was given the chance of a lifetime to take over from VDS and be the first choice goalie of a team that at the time was the best in the PL and one of the best in europe. That team not only gave him that opportunity but also stuck by him during difficult periods because there have been many times the pressure was on the club to take out De Gea and play a more experienced and safer goalkeeper. We didn't do that, we believed in him and gave him every chance he could ever hope for. He realised his potential but none of that would have happened if not for the clubs support and believe in him. I'am 100% sure he would never have gotten such a chance at a club like Real Madrid.
So in a sense DDG atleast owes us his respect for believing in him and giving him the chances to turn into the keeper that he turned out to be. Now does that mean he has to stay with us for the rest of his career no ! But it would show respect on his side to want to stay with us for atleast a couple more years. He finally turned into the keeper we wanted him to be and now should be the time for him and the team to capitalize on that and win some silverware. In that regard he should have accepted our more than generous offer of £150k a week and signed a new contract for 5 years. He can always make the move to Real or Barca or whatever later, if he is one of the best they will always be interested in him but atleast he would have done right by the club by signing that contract and it would have put the club in a position where they could ask for decent money in case a transfer would be on the cards.
The club would never keep him against his will but fair compensation is the least the club deserves for investing £20m and 2 years of patience in him. However the choice it seems he made was that we were a nice club for him to be at when Real didnt want him and now that they want him he can't get out fast enough and the whole contract situation is played out to force the club's hand into giving him what he wants. So his choice clearly shows that he doesn't care about the club or what they did for him. No gratitude for believing in him and giving him his chance. So people imo have every right to feel disgusted about this. We don't show such support for young players and invest so much time and money in them just to see them bugger of to Real for smallchange.

I agree with your sentiment regarding De Gea but you have no right to decide how people should feel. They have every right to be disgusted despite the fact that there is no reasons for it.
Well if players don't care if fans to cheer or jeer them, then why on God's green earth do they compliment the fan base all the time. Is it just for show? Why do we hear that jeering your own players is not good for their confidence if they don't give a rats arse about a fan's opinion of them? How do you know what players expect? As long as they get their money in the bank at then end of month they (a large majority of them) most likely don't give a monkeys what the supporters think. That aside, it seems like you're arguing with points I haven't really made so I'm not sure how to respond.
I'm certainly not suggesting that football is a profession like all others. What I am saying, however, is that the basic fundamentals of a person making a life/career choice to make themselves and their loved ones happier isn't at all different. De Gea isn't moving to spite anyone.
True. But I have a right to think they need to have a lie down and stop taking this football thing so seriously.
Exactly right. Biggest issue for me. I shouldn't be, but really disappointed in him. When I think of all the times I was seething over the way the British press were treating him in those early daysStop playing Sir Moral on his high horse !

I remain utterly convinced he'll not only be a United player next season but he'll also sign a new contract.
Great, excellent - why?I remain utterly convinced he'll not only be a United player next season but he'll also sign a new contract.
Are you trying to jinx any chance of him signing an extension with us?I remain utterly convinced he'll not only be a United player next season but he'll also sign a new contract.

Ay. Basically, you're one of those mental nobodies I'm talking about. If you genuinely feel that you have a right to be "disgusted" with David De Gea then you're off your rocker.
Rumour is that we have already offered him an obscene wage. Doubt it is about the money this time.I've seen nothing to suggest this whole "situation" isn't just the usual dance high profile players and their agents do to get a nice contract.

Also, you did compare a footballer's decision to simply move on like any of us would do in our own professions. Our professions are a world apart from the footballing landscape. So to compare such career choices is not going to give the correct picture.
Although I do agree that De Gea has every right to make his own career choice but why most on here feel "disgusted" is that we have been left in a very poor position to negotiate hard as he has not signed an extension. That for me is really distasteful after all that we have invested in him.
I think he's most likely leaving, but I don't think he's quite made up his mind yet probably. Van Gaal didn't seem confident of course, and if all Madrid offer is less then 30m then we should tell them to feck off and let him leave on a free next summer.

I hope we do on general principle. £30m is a joke for him. And peanuts to us so yeah...

No, it's not.

Actually his post is spot on, you're the one talking bollocks.
It's that detachment from players and clubs that turns the game into the detached circus it's becoming season after season.
Obviously we don't know what goes on behind the scenes. But if United was negotiating with him for a while, the first few times he kept hesitating regardless of us upping his pay, why didn't someone clock that maybe he was seriously thinking of wanting out? In that case, say to the player, sign the contract in the meantime and if you decide to leave we won't stand in your way kind of thing. I mean we would've protected ourselves then. But someone in the United boardroom should have noticed that something was up?Yup we defended him, stuck by him when that was not the obvious choice, gave him chance after chance. Not many clubs would have done that for him. Courtois was signed at the same time and Chelsea just loaned him out, didnt give a rats ass about him and let another club do the hard work. Only when Courtois showed good form for several seasons in a row did they take an interest and took him back.
Thing is they made sure he signed the damned contract renewal in time and difference with us is that they have their prime keeper right now without having had to go through the difficult stages with him whilst we lose ours after the difficult stage is finally over.
I think the players are such valuable assets they should not be able to sign on for another club free once their contracts expire. This is ruining clubs financially. Footballers have too much of a stronghold on the clubs.
Hmmm. You've bolded 2 seperate statements there, which part are you disagreeing with?
