Not sure what is so funny. He's about to be named Real Madrid manager...
Only due to every other candidate being an ex Barcelona manager or once being sacked by Madrid.
We are having this discussion simply because he doesn't have a good enough reputation. I agree he has some pedigree but is a caricature of himself. Chelsea fans were dead against him continuing as their manager and Inter fans hate him. Also, he hasn't done anything of note in the last 8-9 years.
He luckily finds himself in the unique position where all managers above him in the pecking order are either firmly established at their clubs or have already been sacked by RM in the past.
Does anyone think Cech may actually be an upgrade? He'd bring calmness, leadership and stability to our defence. Think we need some experience in our back line.
His negative tactics arguably cost Liverpool the league title a few years back. I've not watched Napoli, so I don't know if he's changed, but if he's still negative then he won't last 5 minutes at Madrid.
I don't know about an upgrade, but if we manage to reconstruct the back four into a good, permanent unit, turning our keeper into more of an organizer than someone who has to regularly dive and save us, we'll be OK. At the end of the day, even with the De Gea, our defensive unit has not been good enough.
An upgrade on one of the top 3 goalkeepers in the world? I understand your point about calmness but I think the lack of calm has to do with our defenders being flappy morons than a fault of DDG's.
Cech won't be be able to fix Jones, not a chance.

Indeed. I think if we're relying as much on De Gea as we have been then we're going to struggle to push on.
You always want to keep your best players, that's s given, but I'd like to think that next season we'd have a defence capable of challenging for major honours with or without him.
If he is a Real Madrid fan and obsessed with Madrid like Marca writes we can't do nothing. Sell and replace him with one more motivated. GK are replaceable.
Why not? Jones is still very young, he could still learn. I admit Phil Jones doesnt seem like the smartest person around so the learning process may be a bit slow..
A experienced GK could have a positive effect on our backline because they are all still quite young. However we should not forget David de Gea isnt inexperienced either. Won the league, won the Europa league, played in another league, showed mental strenght while enduring the media in his first years and played a fair amount of matches in the CL.
Don't necessarily agree, De Gea was primordial in ensuring we got CL this season with some incredible saves sometimes in dying moments of games. He'd be a huge loss, no two ways about it. Cech is a great goalkeeper though, with experience and calmness, so if we're going to lose De Gea, I'd like him to replace the Spaniard.
I would rather see him go now for a decent fee than see him going at the end of the season for nothing, providing we get a proper replacement. Cech would fit perfectly.
No, not many keepers would be an upgrade on De Gea. He's had 4 seasons with us now, and at 24 he's only going to improve physically. It'd be a huge loss selling De Gea.
The only reason I can see him leaving his best Spanish friends (I believe?) in Mata and Herrera is to be with his 10/10 girlfriend. Probably a reason that trumps all argument for him staying. Especially if he has long term plans!

I think the folks thinking cech would be similar or better are confused. I'm sure secretly these folks think De Gea's already gone and it's their way of dealing with it 
De Gea is better and I think he has the same calm as Cech. He certainly produces more confidence, but he's not a miracle worker. Hopefully David signs a 10 year contract

'Essential' is what I meant. This argument does not come in to play really. If they're so desperate to be together then why can't/hasn't she move over here instead? I don't believe DDG is that pu$sy whipped. Admittedly good pus$y.
Do you think? They've been together for a while now haven't they... and she has a career over in Madrid so she wouldn't just move over. One of them has to give.
Hoping next season we won't be so reliant on a great goalkeeper!! Maybe we might score a bit more freely so we don't put so much pressure on ourselves at the back.
Likewise De Gea also has a career here. It may be one of the advantages for moving but I doubt it'd be what sways his decision. I'll personally find a girlfriend for DDG if they broke up because he wants to stay in Manchester. I'm sure many fans would be willing to offer their daughters, wives or girlfriends too.
It'd be tough to find him a girl like Edurne in Manchester. Maybe tramp stamps, side ponytails and uggs are his thing?If we really care about DDG we should encourage him to do what makes him happy.

We need to learn how to park the bus next season. Our goal should be like Mourinho in tough games, score 1 goal and park bus. It's very sad that Dave is likely to be gone.

Hm another aspect of him leaving would be the developmental part. If he's working well the coaches and improving his game here, will he have the same progress/relationships at Madrid? Hmmmmmmmm.
