They have offered him a contract, he won't sign it. What can they do? The fee isn't great, I agree. The timing is all down to the De Gea camp.United have messed this up really bad, RM are going to get De Gea a few years ahead of schedule and for next to nothing!

Hes got a year left
If say in years to come, if nothing untoward happens in the meantime, Herrera said he wanted to go back to Zaragoza, I could understand that and he would go with my blessing. David is supposedly an Atletico fan, if I was one of their fans I would be fuming. I am fuming myself.
About time!
Cheers David, now piss off!
I absolutely despise these transfer sagas
20m is a fair price for anyone in the last year of their contact. Kroos who is as good a midfielder as DDG is a keeper (i actually think better but that's another topic) went for 20m and all the best clubs in the works wanted him. DDG only wants madrid, it cuts our options down slightly.
He's served his contact, he owes us nothing.
I think you need to grow up. A young Spanish goalkeeper with a Spanish girlfriend based in Madrid has longed to go to Madrid for years but professionally kept silent about it (and still has done even when they're coming calling) and you've got a problem with that?He can do one as far as I'm concerned, if thats true.

I don't care if he's been plotting to go to Madrid for years. He's got every right to, and if he considered United a stepping stone fine. He gave us extremely valuable years of service, and we helped to massively improve his game to the level that Madrid want him. Sure he could have signed a new contract to make sure that we get a bigger fee, but why should he do that? If that's going to stop him moving to his dream club how does it make sense? He's not a United fan, he's a player under contract with us and that means quite simply that he's got to perform on the pitch for us - which he unquestionably has done.
I'm a Manchester United supporter.....Course I've a problem with it!
Should I be happy and wave him off at the airport?!
All I see from the outside is De Gea not signing a contract and so allowing Madrid to get him on the cheap. If he stays and don't sign, well he get's a nice bonus. The decent thing would be to sign a contract with a buy out clause but IF the stories are to be believed then it's unfortunate. It's a dick move by him and his 'agent'. If he wanted to see if we qualify? Who knows what the truth is, but it's an unfortunate situation. Some sadly live in a bubble.
We apparently did 2 years ago. Don't think you can blame it on United. They has been very little United could do for over 12 months tbh, but when you have a young spanish keeper who is improving rapidly then it makes sense to re-negotiate his contract any time, after 1 year, after 2 years.
He's waiting for his girlfriend to give him permission to use the phone, so he can tell Woody that he wants to leave.Any updates on this saga ?

Add in a record transfer fee for di Maria - a player who had to leave Madrid and had literally nowhere else to go. di Maria shouldn't have cost anymore than 40m.
Mendes has literally fleeced us over the last 8 years. Our club has suffered on the pitch from pretty much every deal that has benefited Mendes.
We're a soft touch and it's becoming clear to everyone.
I'd certainly keep him at arms length wherever possible from now on.
The thing is - if we sell him at £18m or whatever the figure is supposed to be now (anything less than £30m is a joke - it should be about £50m really), we're likely going to have to pay more than that to replace him anyway. You think Levy will let us take Lloris for £18m? I doubt it - and even if he does, we're essentially downgrading the position for no financial gain. That's a bad situation. If we have to pay more (more likely), we're downgrading the position and paying for the privelige of it!
I'd much rather get 1 more year out of him. Anything can happen in that time. Madrid could get a transfer ban, or David's bird might discover a great new shop in Manchester and decide she loves it here or they break up - or anything. Or he could still go (on a free this time - but if you're paying the same amount for a replacement isn't it a bit like a free transfer anyway?), but we've got another year to really make sure we get the right guy in to replace him?
Its partly the reason why its becoming so difficult today to create any kind of football dominance, when the big 2 in Spain continue to stampede their way though everyone in the transfer market, especially the Spanish governments fave toy Real Madrid. We became close between 2006-09 in terms of a English and European football dominance, but we know what happened between 2008-09. If our new signing depay becomes a world class player on that special type of player, and leaves for Madrid say at 24-25, you start to question, how in the hell can the club truly become great? when these diva's of a club continue to want a new toy and set us back 2 or 3 years. If these talents continue to use us has a stepping stone, its partly why we are on 3 European cups, and Madrid are on 10, and Barca are on 5 because they get what they want like ronaldo, and we get Antonia valencia puts things into perspective. To win European cups, you got to have the players. If we keep losing the best players, its going to be hard to even get to 4 European cups, let alone 5. People say well players are out there, its not easy finding a top keeper, let alone a world class keeper like DDG at 24, drives you mad when things like this happen. This is not a one off, its becoming a frustrating pattern, and a cliche. Take ronaldo's entire career, that was a cliche, he becomes a world class player and spends his best years at Madrid yea like that was original.
I agree with you up to a point, but the thing is -
Why isn't Aguero at Madrid/Barca?
Why isn't Hazard at Madrid/Barca?
Why isn't Courtouis at Madrid/Barca?
Why isn't Silva at Madrid/Barca?
Why when Sanchez left Barca didn't we step in and outwage and outbid Arsenal - the same window we paid 60 fecking million for di Maria...?
The truth is that we've become a soft touch in the transfer window - both in who we buy and who we sell. And we have, compared to other clubs, an unhealthy relationship with Jorges Mendes - a man who's literally fleeced us in the last 8 years (Ronaldo, Anderson, Bebe, Nani's loan wages, Falcao's loan and wages, di Maria's fee) and given us literally nothing to show for it.
For all the sponsorship deals and 'official partners' we've got, what we really need are some backroom faces who know how to work transfers and contracts, a la Chelsea and City.
Not a popular opinion, perhaps, but it's true.
£50m for a goalkeeper would be mad, £50m for a player in the final year of his deal would be mad, now combine both.
I must admit I don't get the animosity towards him. He is a man doing a job of work. Yes he wants to leave that job and move somewhere sunny. I have no problem with that what so ever.
The thing is he is still contracted to Man Utd. I would rather get that last year out of him than sell him for £18m. If RM are prepared to pay that much to get him one year early then they agree with me that one year of his playing time is worth that £18m.
I say we keep him.
Same here, I'm really tired of this stupid saga.Everytime I look at BBC I just hope to see that this deal has been finalized.

Just feck off to Madrid already, David.
Didn't real sell Alonso for peanut ? Yes, he's old but still, same logic could be applied here, first team player, wanted to move on, etc... Also Bayern sold Kroos for 22m euro, he didn't want to renew contract, personal stuff (wage demand), 1 year left in his contract, same shit. But you have to factor in our financial situation now.
It's the same as any club trying to buy first team players from Real Madrid or PSG. Yeah there's still a price but it's sky fecking high because transfer revenue isn't important to them.
Different ball game when he's been your best player.Didn't real sell Alonso for peanut ? Yes, he's old but still, same logic could be applied here, first team player, wanted to move on, etc... I am as well. I'm confident and know that we'll get a quality replacement in.Exactly. Im actually excited about the new chapter concerning our new GK. Right now he's like the girlfriend who dumped you but hasn't moved out yet. feck outta here haha
