I read that Woodward is flying back to Europe to buy a GK. Which would be your favorite? what do you think about Cillesen?

Nah I think that's nonsense, if he is then it's just a replacement for Valdes.

DDG is irreplaceable, he is one of our few truly world class players, it'll be a sad day if he does leave no doubt, as for a replacement I'd like to see us buy someone who has loads of experience and won't just up and leave on us, Cech would have been perfect imo, but right now I'm not giving up on DDG staying.

Cillessen should stay where he is.

Ian Ladyman Q & A on the De Gea situation

WHY WOULD A GOALKEEPER WHO HAS WORKED SO HARD TO BE A SUCCESS IN ENGLAND NOW WISH TO LEAVE?

When David de Gea came to England he did so because he saw it as a step forward. It was a pragmatic decision. The goalkeeping slots at the big Spanish clubs were filled at that time and there was no immediate prospect of that changing. At United, De Gea saw the opportunity to establish himself and to learn. After a shaky start, it worked. Now, though, things have changed. De Gea has gone from the young prospect of whom Iker Casillas famously said 'one day he will retire us all' to the real deal, the best goalkeeper Spain now has to offer. As such, he wants to go home. He wants to go where his heart lies and his girlfriend lives. It's hard to blame him.

SO WHY HASN'T HE LEFT THEN?

Quite simply, United have played hard ball better than anybody expected. The assumption was, certainly from within the De Gea camp, that United would fold in the face of a typically familiar Madrid PR offensive and sell their keeper to their big continental rival. Once De Gea refused to sign a new £200,000-a-week contract at United, it appeared that the club was backed in to a corner.

SURELY THEY WOULD HAVE TO SELL RATHER THAN RISK LOSING HIM FOR NOTHING NEXT SUMMER?

Wrong. United have been so annoyed by the way Madrid have conducted their pursuit through their favoured media outlets that they have decided that this is a deal that will happen on their terms or not at all, even if it means they lose a few quid in the process.

WHAT ARE THESE TERMS?

They are quite straightforward. United will accept a swap for the Madrid defender Sergio Ramos or there is no deal. Van Gaal knows that he needs an experienced international central defender to move United forward this season and sees this as a way to get one. United will not accept a cash deal for De Gea, no matter how substantial.

BUT MADRID HAVE SAID THAT SWAP WON'T HAPPEN…

United are not convinced that Madrid mean this. Van Gaal and United chief executive Ed Woodward remain quietly optimistic that the Spanish club will cave in. They have lost Iker Casillas now and coach Rafa Benitez has told president Florentino Perez that he wants to start the season with De Gea between the posts. Madrid still think that United may accept a cash deal for De Gea but the fact is that they won't.

United are prepared to cut their nose off to spite their face over this and will happily lose De Gea for nothing next summer rather that do a deal that doesn't suit them now. To United it's a matter of pride. Woodward doesn't wish to be seen to be bowing down to the might of Madrid. To him its a case of swap or no deal and he remains privately optimistic that the Ramos exchange may yet happen.

HAVE UNITED PUT A TIME LIMIT ON THE DEAL HAPPENING?

Strangely, they haven't. They say that they have all bases covered and can cope even if they lose De Gea right at the end of the window. There are several theories about this. One is that they have a deal lined up with Ajax keeper Jasper Cillessen which will see the Holland international join them this summer if De Gea leaves or next summer if he stays for another year. It sounds a rather fanciful arrangement but nobody at either club has denied it up until this point. United have also been talking to Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero but he is not thought to be the one United are lining up as their No 1.

HOW HAS DE GEA BEEN ON UNITED'S TOUR OF AMERICA?

He has actually been very professional. Despite the fact that he told team-mates and staff at United at the end of last season that he would not be coming back, he has accepted the complexities of his situation very calmly. De Gea knows that even if he doesn't get his move then he will get it next summer. He has been assured by Madrid that they wont buy another goalkeeper if he doesn't come.

The promotion of Keylor Navas to the No 1 jersey at the Bernabeu is being viewed as a cosmetic exercise and not something that will necessary impact on De Gea's long-term prospects in Spain. In America, meanwhile, De Gea has been excluded from games because of a so-called injury. United manager Van Gaal will not go in to detail about what the injury is. Indeed, he will not talk about it all.

SO ARE UNITED MERELY TRYING TO PROTECT HIM IN CASE REAL MADRID DO FINALLY COME CALLING?

Surely United wouldn't be so calculating. Would they?

If you replace "United" with "The Caf" you can tell where he got his information from.

http://www.manutd.com/en/Tour-2015/...ill-return-from-injury-against-Barcelona.aspx

Louis van Gaal has revealed he is optimistic David De Gea will play in Manchester United’s next International Champions Cup match against Barcelona on Saturday.

The Spain international is yet to feature on Tour 2015 presented by Aon after an injury ruled him out of the 1-0 win over Club America and Tuesday’s 3-1 victory over San Jose Earthquakes.

Although De Gea was not in the matchday squad at the quirky Avaya Stadium in California, he did take part in the warm-up as the players simply needed a goalkeeper to shoot at while Sam Johnstone prepared on his own with Frans Hoek, with Anders Lindegaard also injured.

“I have a good hope that he can play against Barcelona but he was still injured [for the San Jose game],” van Gaal stated in his post-match press conference. "Lindegaard was also injured so it was difficult. I told David to go stand in the goal so we have a point of direction for my attackers, but don’t do anything to risk more injury because we have to build you up. I hope that he can play and I think he can.”

Angel Di Maria, Marcos Rojo and Javier Hernandez will all join the tour squad on Saturday after enjoying an extended holiday following their international commitments. Van Gaal does not expect any of the trio to face Barcelona, though, due to a lack of match fitness.

“They all come on 25 July but they cannot play. It is the same with Bastian [Schweinsteiger],” the boss explained. “You have to first train more and then we have to play 45 minutes.

“They can play maybe 30 minutes but I don’t think so because they had three weeks of holidays and I don’t know how they will come back. But it is possible because in three weeks you do not lose so much. Some players had five weeks’ holiday and then that is not possible [to play].”

The boss also confirmed his starting team against the Spanish champions will play for an hour now that the majority of his players have all registered 45 minutes in both of the last two games.

“Now, I have had the opportunity to see all of my players except for Marouane Fellaini, because he is suspended for three matches,” van Gaal told reporters.

“Also except for Sean Goss because he is the surprise selection in the squad and a player from the second team. I gave him the opportunity but I have nobody injured yet. It is going very well.

"Against Barcelona, I will play for longer with a line-up. I have to select which players are going to play 60 minutes so it is the first selection.”

It's fantastic that we seem to be playing tougher than Madrid expected us to be. Absolutely fantastic. They've gone about things so far with an element of arrogance, and a sense of moneyed entitlement that really begged for us to respond as we have. Great stuff. Eff off Real Madrid! :)

.. for now ..

Its just annoying he couldnt wait another 2-3 years for us to have completed the rebuilding job and once again at the top of english football. Having the excuse of saying "ive had a wonderful 7 years at the club, and manchester united is back where they should be" i think a lot of fans would accept that. Leaving to madrid on a fecking free when he's about to enter his prime is an absolute piss take from Dave should that be the case.

How do you know he doesnt?

If any player past or present was going to be a cafe member it would be him.

He's probably been banned a few times and all. Definitely a General Forumer from a bygone era.

In 2008, in the month of August, a day probably not unlike this one, there was a thread called Posters you'd most like to meet. Or something similar. In that thread, Brad posited the theory that you were, in fact, Terry Christian. He said Sultan had PMd him to confirm the truth of it. I messaged you to ask if it was true and you denied it.

I'd love to spin this story about more but that is the long and short of it. I'm not recounting this on memory, I just checked my inbox for the message. Which I cherish to this day.

I think Elvis may have started that rumour.

He's a fan, to be fair. I did run Hayley Mcqueen off this forum, by the way. But in my defence I didn't actually believe she was the big titted SSN presenter. Oh well....

If we play him in the cl playoff, will he then be ineligible to play for another team in the cl this season?

Honestly if he still cant see how they run the club in Madrid and wants to move just to be with his girlfriend, then nothing can be said to change his mind. He will be crucified there if he makes mistakes and he will from time to time. There is no protection from the media like he had here. If he still wants to join their circus, then so be it. Ship him off this year and get Ramos in return and call it a day.

He was crucified here for awhile. Being sheltered from the media is a load of tripe argument. You think he actually weighs that up in his decisions? Its going to happen so I hope your last sentence happens.
