And you left it out that if De Gea said any of that, then he would lose his sweet, sweet millions of 'loyalty payments'.

Hadn't thought of that - furthers add to the fact that not publicly pushing for a move is self-serving bullshit, yes.

Although would he actually lose the loyalty payments if he said he would like a move if one materializes, but that he is happy to stay also? I suspect United and De Gea's legal teams would be disputing that one. The whole concept of loyalty payments seem mental to me, surely they are more hassle to the club than they are worth. They seem like an invention of agents so they can have negotiating power and earn themselves even more money.

Strange article. This line is baffling when you think about what it actually means:

His camp are at pains to point out that, out of respect to the United supporters, he has not followed the leads of Raheem Sterling or Angel di Maria in publicly agitating for a move.

Firstly, the rather unsubtle indication that De Gea's "camp" have been feeding info to the Mail in exchange for a positive article. In journalistic terms, "at pains to point out" = "told us to write this"

Secondly, the notion that not publicly pushing for a move is some how more respectful to supporters than privately pushing for a move. Makes perfect sense you think? Wrong. It's PR bullshit and people are lapping it up. It's not out of respect for supporters, it's to win public opinion. Everyone knows he's pushing for a move but as long as he doesn't come out and say so supporters are supposed to praise his behaviour? "Yeah he's pushing for a move away, but he is doing it privately and not telling us that's he's pushing for a move away so it's fine - now if he were to tell me he was pushing for a move I would be so disappointed with him!" Not to mention articles like this one that have blatantly been spoon fed to the Mail by De Gea's "camp" to put pressure on United - a far far FAR more dubious and deceitful behavior than publicly stating a desire to leave, yet people fall for it time and time and time again. It genuinely makes me angry how easily people can be manipulated by the press and PR-sociopaths.

Alright, you can put foreword the counter point that by publicly agitating for a move De Gea would lower United's negotiating power and could force a move through quicker/cheaper for Real, but honestly does anyone really believe that is what's stopping De Gea from giving a public statement? If so you live in cloud fecking cuckoo land. The only reason a public statement hasn't been given is because it would damage De Gea's reputation/status that his PR team strive to maintain and bolster. With the clock ticking down to the end of the window we will soon see how little of a shit anyone from De Gea's camp gives about how much money United get from Real - they will do whatever it takes to push it through, starting with these type of articles where they feed the scum press their shit nuggets of controversy, and if that doesn't work you can guarantee there will be a very blatant and obvious public push for a move before September 1st.

I'm not having a go at De Gea at all, his PR team yes. The thing I'd most like to see is De Gea give a statement saying something like: "I want to move to Madrid, but if a deal can not be agreed this summer I will happily stay at United and do my best to go out on a high and help United win the league, it's a great club I that I respect and appreciate, but for personal reasons I would prefer to live in Madrid" - this is the only way that I would think he's being professional, respectful of and honest to the supporters. But it won't happen. Instead we won't get a statement until after the window, and whichever club De Gea is at it will be a bland, unoffensive, media-friendly, characterless, meaningless, box-ticking, information-less, disingenuous, cliched statement of nothingness in order to avoid any potential negative public opinion. And people will lap it up, because people are stupid and like living in their little bubbles where they get told what is good and respectable and what is bad and what they should get offended by.

The reason he doesn't go out and say he wants to leave is that he doesn't want to get stuck here next year with everybody on his back. Imagine if he comes out and publicly says he wants to go to Madrid and then we don't get what we want from Madrid or we refuse to sell, he's stuck here another year under tremendous pressure, with no support whatsoever. And keep in mind that this is a very important year for him, next summer the Euros are on and surely he expects to win at least a place in teh squad, if not the no. 1 shirt.

Whoever thinks that he is keeping his mouth shut because of the fans is just fooling himself.

It's funny and strange how many fans blame "the manager" or "the camp" of a player. As if De Gea is just a passive and helpless passenger of what's happening.

He is. Footballers are. Celebrities in general often are. Hell, people in general are. He pays people a lot of money to do this stuff for him so he can not bother with it. He's told it's in his best interests financially, professionally and the oh-so-important public opinion. People don't tend to argue with professionals and experts in their fields, especially when they think there's something in it for them. If a player didn't want to be passive they wouldn't hire so many fecking leaching, manipulative scum-cnuts to be around them "advising" them, playing the press and negotiating deals. But he does, they all do. If people in general weren't so passive they wouldn't read shit like the Daily Mail everyday but they do, and they believe the PR-shit-speil they read because they are passive. People don't see they game for what it is, are nor do the players/celebrities even though they are at the center of it.

It's Fine to see him sitting on the bench not getting game time knowing the euros are not far away he will be gutted, More so as I think casillas is doing well in portugal I believe.

Going to miss De gea big time though not many keepers can inspire so much confidence. Anytime you watched a striker bear down on him 1 on 1 you could have full confidence in him that he wont mess it up and he won them almost every time he has to be the best in the world 1 on 1 and shot stopping. Any horrible back passes he always managed to control and get rid of them even under immense pressure when the team was misfiring.

It just isn't the same watching the game without him but I'm glad he's training with the reserves all the same kudos to the club for giving madrid and De gea the middle finger for trying to make a fool of us.

Everyone knows he wants to leave and is pushing for a move. Everybody. Who on earth would have a different opinion of him if he was publicly honest AND respectful AND stated his acceptance to stay if no deal can materialize? (I have no idea why you left out those last two bits by the way)

I'm also confused by your post - you say that he wouldn't want to be stuck here with "everybody on his back" and "with no support" - yet you also say that keeping quiet isn't because of the fans - so who are you referring to when you say people on his back and lack of support? The players? They all know already.

The only way it could have been resolved by now is if we had accepted one of Real's really low offers, and then people would be moaning about how we sold him for so cheap. I'd rather keep him for an extra season and I expect the club would too, therefore the resolution is not possible until September 2nd because that's when the ordeal will be complete. So do please enlighten us all on what resolution SHOULD have occurred by now, I'm sure it will be brilliant.

I hate this bloody attitude that people have that complicated things "SHOULD" be done quickly/smoothly/in a way that pleases them. It's so fecking self-centred. I want this, it should be done. I don't like that, it should have been done different. This frustrates me, it should be resolved.

Judging from his comments last week, this would appear to be Van Gaal's preference. Mine too, time to get rid.

We shouldn't play De Gea anyway.
You can be as "professional" as you want, when it's looking likely that you are out the door sooner rather than later, it is better for the club to play with what we know we'll have and try to get them to gel together, especially now at the start of the season where we want to get the team up on it's feet and in a rhythm.

United will by all means sell (given that the buying club comes close to our evaluation), but it's not up to United to sell quickly just for De Gea to play games for Real Madrid and to make the euros squad.
United are rightfully dragging it out to get the most out of a transfer of a player that wants to leave, but doesn't have that right to do so without the clubs saying until next year.

No hatred for De Gea, but United isn't by any means being as shit in this situation a lot seem to suggest.

Spot on. So obvious all this briefing is coming from his people - specifically Mendes. The more DDG does this sneaky underhand shit - the more respect I lose for him.

I actually think De GEa and his camp are getting worried here. It seems likely Real won't cough up an acceptable fee for him - in fact - they seem to prefer getting him on a free. Coupled with that is the fact that there is a real possibility he could find himself not playing much if he has to stay. Me thinks Mendes should pay us the £35M on Real's behalf and get his client out - as it's his fault in the first place for giving DDG dodgy advise.

Wait! Was LvG here at United in Spring 2014? I thought he joined the club only after the world-cup 2014 which was in summer.
if there is any truth in this, id say its a case of LVG might want to observe/work with the player himself before committing to him

Who would have thought a few years back that united would be impacting Spain's top 3 keepers' club and international careers like this. For him to leave, Casillas must have been convinced ddg was on his way to take his place and consequently his international spot. I'm still not convinced all the dominos will fall.

Its not committing, its protecting the asset value.

LVG is beginning to look very stupid in this whole situation. Far too stubborn for his own good.

How exactly? we have 2 clean sheets from the games he hasnt played.

I don't for one moment think he would have accepted to put us in a situation like this.

Nor do I.

Now, LVG may very well have had his doubts about DDG (that part of it is believable, given LVG's hang-ups) but the contract part makes no sense. We had everything to gain from letting him sign an extension if he was ready to do this - for obvious, purely financial reasons which have nothing to do with LVG. Unless LVG is completely ignorant of how these things work, he wouldn't have opposed an extension even if he wanted to replace DDG from day one.

I'm not talking about whats happened on the pitch. He really shouldn't have gone public saying that De Gea refused to play, especially since widespread reports since suggest that that wasn't the case at all. He is in danger of alienating De Gea which isn't ideal considering he is our best player and a popular member of the dressing room.

As if Woodward is going to come to Van Gaal and say we are about to sign a new deal with De Gea are you ok with that only for Van Gaal to say no i'm not keen on him lets just run his contract down and get rid of him on a free. People who believe this must be very naive.

Balague is pissing me off as well. Fair enough he is well connected in Spain but he talks as if he was there, he did the same yesterday with his De Gea never refused to play, seriously how the feck would he know? He's normally ok but De Gea's camp look like all of a sudden they are going to use him as there PR mouthpiece.

Balague has good connections in Europe/Mendes. Hence why he can say those things. I mean Angel Di Marias letter to the fans came through him, what was that about!

Oh I agree with that. He shouldnt have said anything at all.

As has been said above LVG wasn't here in the spring of 2014.

Of course he wasnt. He was here in the summer of 2014. Spring could be April when Moyes was already sacked. So the likely scenario was that DDG wantes to pen new contract, the club said "let the new manger sanction it". And here comes Van Gaal who has his doubts.

As a few others said definitely rubbish as van Gaal wasn't here then.

I really doubt he'd have wanted to pen a new contract when we were heading for a seventh place finish.

LVG let the club carry out plans made before his arrival, i.e signing Shaw and Herrera, why would he tell the club not to extend DDG's contract? It's a bizarre accusation that doesn't match up with everything else that happened.

There are also reports that DDG has been refusing to extend for the past 2 years, but that doesn't go hand in hand with what you've already decided.

Funny that no CL football which was a result of 7th placed finish didnt stop us from getting stellar players like Di Maria.
Di Maria didn't want to leave Real Madrid and PSG couldn't afford him. We weren't exactly his first or even second choice. As for stellar, so stellar he jumped ship at first opportunity...

Van Gaal was said to prefer a different type of keeper. Feck knows what type of keeper he wanted.

Good passer, which DDG is, as can be evidenced by the fact that he didn't sign anyone else the moment he came here. Why would a manager go into a season with a keeper he doesn't trust? But more importantly, why would he continuously refer to said keeper as his best player?

It took Van Gaal until Everton game to notice that. Match this with reports about Van Gaals cold treatment towarsa DDG.
