'kinell Gazza, you're doing it again!

FFS! <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />

I'm not driving to la Coruña for 7/8 hours there and back to see a youth side put out. If it was important I would go, but it isn't.

I have a ticket for Valencia-Arsenal on the Wednesday.

Right just had a look on the map. From one side of Spain to the other. <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" /> Take a train mate that's all I can say. What are you going to do with your tickets?

I aint got one. I could have had one from a mate of mine that lives in Vigo (Celta's home, in Galicia also - he got them for me last year) but I told him I didn't want it a week after we beat Juve in Turin.

I support Valencia, the missus insists on it!

That aint sensible. I would have to go to Barcelona on the train, and then get another from there to La Coruña. You are now knocking on close to 900 miles.

Never! <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

Hopefully Richardson and Fletcher will be given another start. Fletcher looked really good and i think Richardson is a real prosect but will just need more games to raise his confidence and his belief that he can compete at the highest level

I'd be really surprised if Fergie doesn't field a lot of youngsters/fringe players. The game isn't going to affect whether Juventus or Basle qualifies so Fergie can field whatever team he likes with a clear conscience.

And now that we control our own destiny again in the league, the last thing we need is more injuries in what for us is basically a meaningless game.

I think we should field almost the same team as we did on Saturday.

We need to put out the same eleven, or near as dammit, in order to get a rhythm and gather momentum for the run in.

Now is not the time for experiment, or to train youngsters.

At this point there's no need to risk any more injuries and the players needs all rest they can get before April when we're playing 7 matches in 21 days.

We have a great chance to give our youngsters a match against quality opposition. Better let the reserves travel and rest most of the first team players.

Also, after the Fulham we're facing a two week break (EURO 2004 qualification I think, i.e. no rest for our players) so any momentum gained will be lost again.

Team: Carroll, Ricardo, O'Shea, Blanc, May, Pugh, Lynch, Roche, Webber, Fletcher, Richardson, Stewart, P Neville, Nardiello, Butt, Giggs, Forlan, Davis.

Thats the squad that went to Spain.

Carroll, O'Shea, Blanc, May, Pugh, Butt, Phil, Giggs, Fletcher, Forlan and Nardiello anyone?

As much as I like the idea of consistency, I would hate to see the same thing happening to us as is happening to Arsenal. Cannot jeopardize our first team players. As indeed, with Roy Keane and Juan Veron out for a while, we suddenly seem to be lacking a lot in midfield, if anyone else would be joining the Injury List.

I think that it is a welcome thing for our first team players not to play this middle of the week. We have found ourselves lacking a bit a few times from the 'hangover' of European games. Don't want that to happen when we can avoid it :) .

Field the youngsters. No better time, in my estimation for that.

I would second that selection.

------------Carroll
P. Neville-O'Shea-Blanc-Pugh
--------Stewart-Butt--------
Forlan-----Fletcher----Giggs
-------------Davis----------

Fecking 'ell, that's a shocking team! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

I just hope Fergie isn't thinking of pairing May and Blanc in central defence.

Of the team out there my guess would be:

Carol
Phil, Blanc, O'Shea, Pugh
Fletcher, Stewart, Butt, Giggs
Ole, Forlan

except Ole didn't travel! Put the superstar up front!

:D

So id think its:

--------------Ricardo------------------

Roche-----O'Shea---Blanc----Pugh--------

Fletcher--Butt----P.Nev----Richardson---

----------Webber---Forlan---------------

If Ole didn't travel is that because he has been ill for the past couple of weeks?

Just think he's given him the week off, SAF must think he doesn't need the game. Butt obviously does after Saturday & I reckon Phil will play. Where did you hear he had the flu? He did OK on Saturday, most of them were pretty average.

MUTV.

With that team selection, we are just asking Depor to embarass us.

We are asking for it, not in a way that is arrogant, simply in a way that is sensible. I would not mind an embarassment in this game. Chances are Deportivo are not going to field too strong a side either.

We are surely heavy underdogs in this one and to come up with the slightest hint of a good performance would be a positive. I think, only positives can come out of this game - our first team guys taking the time off, while our youngsters going through yet another stage of their breeding.

This match can either way. Young players tend to play better away from home at the start so you should see the likes of Pugh, Stewart + Richardson proform above the standards they produce at OT. If I was a betting man, which I am, I would stay well clear of this game.

part of irureta's pre match interview

Youth opportunities
However, Irureta is also keen to use the game as an opportunity to assess his goalkeeping options. Young Dani Mallo may start the game. "This match will help us to assess the level of our three goalkeepers," he said. "I think Dani is an example of footballer who has gained from being in the line-up"

just got this from BBC

looks like Depor will field a strong side

---------------------------------

Deportivo cannot qualify after their dramatic defeat by Juventus last week.

But coach Javier Irureta is still likely to field a strong side as he looks to maintain momentum for the important Spanish league encounter with Real Madrid at the weekend.

Roy Makaay scored his 20th league goal of the season in Saturday's 2-0 league win over Rayo Vallecano, and the Dutch international is once again likely to lead the line against United.

The game should mark a return to European action for goalkeeper Jose Molina, who was back in the Deportivo team on Saturday for his first match since he was diagnosed as having testicular cancer in October.

Deportivo La Coruna (probable): Jose Molina, Manuel Pablo, Cesar, Jorge Andrade, Joan Capdevila, Victor, Aldo Duscher, Roberto Acuna, Jose Emilio Amavisca, Juan Carlos Valeron, Roy Makaay
