Douglas Costa

I'm very surprised how good Costa is. He's brilliant.

I thought we were linked with him for ages and yet didn't get him. This from SAF who loves his wingers and strikers.

Fecking bullshit we went after Depay instead of this guy. Hope we don't make the same mistake and do what is necessary to get Felipe Anderson in January.

How's he been from set-pieces both directly and in delivery? Seemed to be one of his major pluses whenever we were linked with him.

He rarely takes set-pieces for us, so no idea if he's good at it or not. But usually brilliant set-piece takers at other clubs totally lose that ability once they join us. For example Kroos was amazing at freekicks for Leverkusen, but totally useless once he was back at Bayern. I've no clue why that's the case, but it happens all the fecking time.

Yeah it's fecking bullshit we don't have the power of hindsight eh? If I could have any superpower, it would be the power of hindsight. It would be great. I'd never make a bad decision again and I'd always be right. We could use the power of hindsight right now and see if Depay is going to come good, before writing him off as shit less than six months into his time here, while he's still yong n learnin.

he was also very good for shakhtar, he's just not that much of a goal scorer

when shakhtar had willian, fernandinho and him they outplayed juventus and chelsea in their group, ultimately eliminating the european champions
Yeah that team was awesome. Looking back it's really annoying that they had to play eventual finalists Dortmund already in the round of 16 - would've possibly upset a few other teams still in the competition back than otherwise.

Regarding Costa, he's brilliant. No idea how he went under the radar for so long. I just hope he wont stop with his entertaining dribblings, can't believe that diving prick Robben dared to criticize him for 'lack of respect'.

Foresight surely? You already have the power of hindsight.

That's ridiculous. The power of hindsight doesn't work that way. You should say that you want the powers of hind- and foresight, then I'm d'accord.

Was he really available for us? Was it just the case of not making a bid? If so, that's total bollocks. He's been a fantastic signing for Bayern.

Yeah he was linked as ronaldo's replacement lots of times when he left, but I don't think we ever believed he would adapt/show that form considering he played in Ukraine. I guess bayern took the gamble and it's paid off.

This summer probably not, but the years before he was constantly rumoured to sign for one of the big clubs and I'm sure he would have left if someone was willing to pay what Donetsk demanded.

I guess Pep fell in love with him when he researched Donetsk for our CL tie against them and we needed a winger. Then it all happened quickly after the season was over. It was a done deal within a week after the rumours appeared in the media and everything was finalised at the end of June before the transfer window even opened.

In my view, this guy is the transfer of the year. Every scouting and transfer department must pose the question why they didn't try to sign him or why they didn't succeed to sign him. Chelsea were close in 2012. United scouted him even before but didn't go for him since our chief scout Jim Lawlor told Ferguson Costa is too slow for the Premier League. That's at least what fourfourtwo.com reported back then.

Is there anyone lawlor actually think is fast enough for the premier league? Passed on isco for the same reason :wenger:

I admit, I was guilty of underestimating him a lot because I thought that a really really good player wouldn't stay at Shakhtar for this long (still don't understand why). With that said, he's been amazing so far.

If he plays out the season like this, he's easily a ballon d'or candidate. Probably the most exciting player in Europe right now with Messi's absence.

If you guys want a pacey tricky winger like him, which would be much cheaper than european options, go for a player called Dudu from Palmeiras. I really like him.

Every time I watch Bayern, the guy is out of this world. One of my favourite players to watch right now.

Is Gabriel Jesus a similar sort of player? I remember you bigging him up too.

And yet anyone who has played football manager in the last 5 years or so could have told you this guy was the shit. How is it that these Ukrainian teams can sign so many quality South Americans and the premier league can't? Is it a visa issue?

Money, easy league with constant Champions League exposure, no work permits issues (Shakhtar used to have 10+ players from South America at the same time). Shakhtar will find it increasingly difficult due to political situation.

I always thought Alex Texeira better than him at Shaktar, but the way Douglas has adapted and hit the ground running is quality for Bayern. I hope we revisit Texeira, or a least one big club does, so we see him do something similar to Costa.

You need to be a goalscorer for that. Costa's big advantage at Bayern is that there are alreadythis two guys with the two pointed guns waiting that just needed more munition....

If he just would beat his man without end product it would not be the same...

Chelsea are, according to himself. He has 16 goals in 11 games, blimey. Wouldn't mind taking a punt on him. Former teammates have actually all been relatively successful - Fernandinho, Willian and now Douglas Costa.

He has always been a good player, but he wasn't as consistent as he is with Bayern, I'm surprised and glad that he is fulfilling his huge potential. But the other Brazilians are also good players, Bernard, Alex Texeira and Fred in particular.

it goes both ways so. Lewa and Müller score so many goals, because Costa wreaks havoc on the wings. Despite Lewa and Müller scoring left, right and center, he is our best player this season.

Bayerns transfer business in the past few years, especially since Hoeneß is gone and Sammer is in while Rummenigge is the main guy in charge, has been ridiculously good. Probably the best in the world.
