Douglas Costa

Is out of talent age - but has 2 goals and 5 assists in 1028 minutes match time this season in the league. 1 assist in 560 minutes in the Champions League. His numbers in the first year for Bayern weren't better (and that included the high numbers from the first months) and a lot worse in the second season.

He might be able to make any full back ordinary - but than the end product does not really satisfy on highest level for a top club.

He is not a playmaker - the passing map usually ends with him... - the pass grave...

It's too early to tell if he'll be better and more consistent at Juve but 2 goals and 5 assists in 11 games (no mater how you put it) is good return.

As you said his stats take a nose dive later in the season but that's based solely on his performance at Bayern, which is an illogical assumption since it's based on one bad experience he had at A club.

He was excellent at Shaktar and looks great for Juve so far. Yes his passing isn't great but it isn't bad either. Most out and out wingers that play like him
Would pass forwards more than side and back. Of course those kind of players wouldnt have stellar passing stats. But these kind of players are what opposition teams are afraid of.

He's one of the few top class wingers whos
equally lethal on either wing and physically strong enough for any league in the world. If he can add consistency to his ability he'll be world class.

I cannot believe we didnt go for him, the price he went for was reasonable and he is exactly the type of winger we have been crying out for on the RW for years.
This. But maybe I'm a tad biased towards speedy, tricky wingers, excellent dribbling, who can beat a defender with ease

Speaking of speedy, tricky wingers Juve did well last summer as they picked up Bernardeschi as well. We could have used either of them

Haven’t seen enough of the Italian but from all accounts, he’s of a similar ilk yeah. How we could do with a great winger on the right

:(

Credit to the club for integrating such moody players smoothly and credit to Allegri for managing their strengths while hiding their weaknesses. On the other hand, discipline and extreme organisation often penalise pure talent and it is accepted wisdom the very best players can do even better elsewhere (and get more money, of course).

SAF's blind spot in his latter years was central midfielders , maybe Jose's blind spot is wingers

Ironically enough, Costa strikes me as a very Jose type player.

Pretty soon I imagine we will see lazy journalism see us linked to him with all our posts here.

Don't think he's that great. One of those players that gets constantly overrated by fans of other teams than his own.

Another one is Thiago alacantra. I dont think he is as highly rated by his own team ever as much as other teams rate him.

Thought Costa was very good v Spurs. Very composed in tight areas and plenty of movement.

All juve fans love him though, I went to their forums for a while.
Liking a player and rating him are different things. He's inconsistent. Exciting player and when he plays well he looks unstoppable. But for every good performance there's a bad one around the corner. No juventus fan would tell you he's a world class player

He’s always had great wingers in his dominant sides though, iirc. Which is a bit weird how were currently struggling out wide.

Though it seems the industry in general, lack some true class wide players outside of the usual names. And the talented ones seem to be going for circa €150m these days :nervous:

We will likely get Malcom for around 60. Theres still value in the market.

Yeah I don’t disagree. I’m still old school I guess. SAF type old school - €60m to me is quite expensive. But it’s the going rate I guess.

Well clubs just earn way more money. We have almost doubled our revenue over the past 10 years, so it’s not surprising that young winger from the French League, who costed 30 million in 2007 (Ribery) now goes for double that as well.

Yeah absolutely. No complaints here. Like I said, I’m just old

I would say, & it might be a bit ignorant, but Ribery proved much more when he left, vs Malcolm at this point?

He played a great World Cup (which Malcom may do as well) but that’s about it. He did as much in France as Malcom while being older already and having pretty much failed in Turkey, so I guess it evens out.

Yeah like I said, I didn’t know that much about him. Anyway, I’m watching the Pool game. So im out bud :D

sounds like he's had some impact since coming on for 2nd half.....3 assists

From the first moment I seen him play he was always the one to do something with the ball in attack at Juve, he has that explosiveness and unpredictability that we so badly lacked and has been consistently our top 3 performers every game he has played for us

He is a real Fergie type winger if I ever saw one. Would love to see him at United one day.

He said he’s loving it at Juve. Shame we never got him.
