Eden Hazard | "I am signing for Chelsea"

He certainly doesn't play on the 'wing' like our wingers do. He plays on the 'wing' like Sanchez and Iniesta do at Barcelona. Besides, we're very well stocked in our wide positions too, we have 3 of the leagues best wingers after all. If Hazard came here he wouldn't be playing in the role he plays as Lille, but if he went to City he'd be far more likely to play like that.

It would obviously depend on the match as SAF doesn't use 4-4-2 all the time and besides even if it was the case, I don't see how it'd mean Hazard would be used as a CM

No he doesn't, but he does more often than not. We only really go 4-5-1 for bigger games and I don't expect that to change.

Who knows where he would play, but I wouldn't see the point in signing him if the idea was to use him primarily as a winger seeing as our wings are already extremely strong, which is why I think he'd have to be used as the attacking part of a midfield 3, or groomed into a central midfielder.

I personally feel we will move away from 4-4-2 and play 4-5-1.

4-4-2 is fine in home games but we just dont seem in control in games anymore apart from when we played 4-5-1 recently.

So do I. 4-4-2 is outdated, and you can see every time that we are linked with somebody everyone says "can he play in a 2 man midfield." The answer is almost inevitably no, because we are one of the few top team who still use 4-4-2. If we are to be successful in Europe we have to use a 4-3-3, or a 4-2-3-1 more often. We did it in 08 through that campaign, especially in the later stages and the final. 4-4-2 just leaves us too open against good teams.

We are the masters of 4-4-2s against standard opposition and I doubt we'll change that against them this season. The problem this season was the lack of midfielders available to us to play in a 3 man midfield against bigger teams, hence we were left restricted to 4-4-2 in them too which cost us in Europe, the cups and against Shitty.

The funniest part of these threads ever year is when 24/7 transfer muppets begin to blame the player in question for prolonging their agony.

Where do you get this from? He plays as a wing forward for Lille, with J.Cole on the opposite side, the same role as Ronaldo at Real. And if he came to us he would most likely get a similar role to Ronaldo for us, the free roaming wing role.

He's an attacking midfielder who takes up space wide. Far from a wing player. See Cina's examples. Regardless the position he's played in the past at Lille is irrelevant seeing as he will be playing at a new club, under a new manager, running a different formation, and playing a different role. He has the tools to operate centrally, and has done so in the past.

My point is that joining City will provide him less oprotunities given their current squad size in attacking positions.

Well come on, he should be making his decision despite the fact that the French league isn't finished yet and the transfer window hasn't opened yet. It's only fair.

That's what I meant.United doesn't always play 4-4-2.
As an attacking midfielder he'd make sense but as a CM, no, it'd be a lot of money wasted on a player who wouldn't like to play there

That again is a fair point. Jones isn't disciplined enough and with Fletcher and Anderson out that gave us a problem. I would like to see us get a midfielder like M'Vila or Strootman, who can give us good passing ability as well as a hard tackle. However, I still believe we need a Hazard and/or Kagawa.

I'm not arguing that, but we'll also provide him less opportunities because we don't play players in that position and we already have great players, therefore he would really have to start playing in a new position in order to get lots of games, so it's a bitch of a catch 22 I guess.

Straw poll here, and honest answers.

How many games have you seen Hazard play?

I can understand people having seen a lot of players in La Liga, Italy, and Germany somewhat. All of these can be watched in the UK on our sports channels.

But Ligue 1? Who watches that?

Have seen him in every game he played for Belgium, sometimes in the stadium. In a Lille shirt I have seen bits and parts mostly, because I don't watch Ligue 1 much. Only if they broadcast a Lille game here in Belgium, I will watch it, but that's not the case every weekend.

Anyway, I would be thrilled if he signed for us.

As for the people saying he's a cocktease and all that. Actually, he has always come accross as a level headed guy who knows what he wants. He stayed with Lille for so long, because that's how he had planned his carreer. I also think his parents play(ed) an important role in that. In interviews I've seen with Hazard's father, he came accross as a person who would not let Eden get carried away with things and keep his focus on football.

However, I must also say that about a year ago there has been an issue between Eden Hazard and the Belgian national team manager. Hazard got subbed off against Turkey and was very disappointed with that. After being subbed off he went to the dressing room, and then went to get a hamburger at a hamburgerstand near the stadium which was being made into a national item: hamburgergate. The manager suspended him for 2 games because of it, and Hazard apologized and the suspension was reduced to just 1 game. He then went on to play some very good games for Belgium. Anyway, that's also a side Eden Hazard seems to have, next to the level headed person I have usually witnessed. It might have had to do with the manager as well, because the Lille manager was surprised about the difficulties between Hazard and the Belgian manager.

As for knowing what he wants: Hazard's dream and goal is to win the Ballon d'Or someday, so his choice of clubs might be influenced by that goal he has set himself. He wants to be the best and perform on the highest level. He will probably ask himself which club he could likely become a star in.

I can't believe you are all still investing time and emotion in this. He's already decided ffs.

Now matter how many strangers tweet shit that you instantly believe or how many school-friends you may have that work in vaguely related footballing circles, you do not know for certain what Eden Hazard (or any other potential transfer target for United) has decided to do.

Please stop talking as though you do. It's tiresome.

Never seen him play.

Sounds like a media whoring cock to me.

If as good as he/people think, will be wanting a move to Spain in 2 years time.

Hope we don't sign him.

My post earlier today identified the fact that we really don't have an attacking midfielder in our squad. Rooney is probably the only player who could play that role, so how are we supposed to adapt our formation or change into a 4-5-1/4-2-3-1 if we don't have the personel to do so?

That aside, Hazard is a massive talent and I don't think anyone with the opportunity to sign him can legitimately use the excuse "we dont have room for him". Ferguson has never shyed away from strengthening in areas we looked comfortable in, so even if Ferguson sees him as a winger opposed to an attacking midfielder. I don't see that as a valid reason we won't be interested in him.

Yeah you're right. I just wish there was a place that fans could talk and exchange ideas with each other. I bet theres a website or some kind of chat room devoted to bringing United fans from around the world together to talk about what they enjoy.

The whole "You will see which club I sign for" act doesn't really sit well with me. What does he think this is? Seems to be loving the attention.

I'm sure this has been brought up, but let's say we do sign Hazard. How would Nani feel about this? We would then have signed 2 players in his wide left position and SAF loves Tony so his position is safe. I'd be slightly concerned if I was Nani

Chief executive David Gill has sent a message to Eden Hazard and other United targets about the benefits of choosing red over blue.

Gill says the commercial benefits and the 'Old Trafford factor' can tilt potential signings United's way in spite of Manchester City's undoubted spending power.

The United official remains defiant that the club will continue to attract top talent as Belgian winger Eden Hazard continues to tease supporters of both Manchester clubs as to his next destination - which could be revealed next week.

Gill said: "It depends a bit on the player and his advisers and agent. If that player says 'It will just come down to a money thing' then they may out-muscle us. But that's their choice, we still pay very good salaries.

"Whilst other clubs may pay slightly more, we pay very good salaries and I think a player coming to Manchester United has the benefit of playing in front of 76,000 every week.

"We have our history and heritage, the commercial spin-offs if they want to choose to go down that route as well then they are probably better at Manchester United than other clubs arguably anyway."

Gill cites manager Sir Alex Ferguson as a trump card in United's hand with City boss Roberto Mancini's reputation outside the Etihad Stadium thought to be debatable, according to some top players.

"We shouldn't be shy or embarrassed or worried about not being able to attract top players because I firmly believe we can. With Alex and what we offer as a club many people want to come and play for us."

Maybe he's just a cocky one... Does it really matter!!

Nani might be one of those players which would be on they maybe out the season after.. Would depend on how they all perform. Nothing wrong with competitive competition though. Ask Andy Cole.

My hunch is that any talk of a choice between both Manchester clubs is Hazard's way of extracting more money from City. I also think it suits City in a sense because they'll be able to say they beat United to a sought-after player. But I'm not even sure how far our interest goes, it really doesn't sound like us to get in a bidding war.

Nani can play left or right, and he played at his best on the right in 2010. Doubt he will be too worried. On form he is arguably our best and most dangerous player.

Make it 4 years and we sell him for twice what we paid and that would be good business.

Pretty sure that is just a generic quote and he wasn't talking about Hazard, no?

Well, the club must remain hopeful of signing him or they'd have come out and publicly distanced themselves by now. That only means they're allowing City to gain another victory, though.

I'd be Nani, I would welcome any player who would strengthen the team and wouldn't worry about the competition.Nani is good enough to be a regular starter at United no matter who is directly in competition with him

Young should be far more worried than Nani.

Don't agree with the latter point. SAF has dropped Valencia plenty of times when Nani is in form, and vice versa.

All are going to play plenty of games, in fact there's 60+ games if we go far in every competition. And the season that just finished saw Valencia, Young and Nani getting injured concurrently. They were all never fit at the same time
