What the feck do you need a goalkeeper for if you win matches by outscoring the opposition?

At any rate, you can just drop the six deepest player from that formation onto the line anyway, where they would probably be, as a unit, better than any goalkeeper alive.

If Shelvey can do this with no 'keeper I think I'd take my chances with de Gea...

Rooney--Welbeck
Kagawa-----Hazard-----Nani
Carrick--Jones
Young-Vidic-Smalling-Valencia

America. feck yeah.

 Something is definitely wrong in this formation. I guess what but I can't realise it!

The fact that we won more titles than Chelsea does not mean that in 2005 Essien could not have believed that Chelsea were going to be a dominant force.

Even if we are a better club, a player might see that differently. If the money's the same, he'll look at where he'll have better chance of success. It's not unreasonable to think that players might gravitate towards clubs that splash the cash around like it's going out of fashion. And not just because of the wages they can earn but because they might think that the club will sign more top players to put together a really great team. The lure of star signings is probably greater for a player than history.

Again, I don't disagree that an opportunity to win trophies changes players minds. It'd be valid in 2005 when Chelsea were a lot better than us. Why would it be valid now when they're clearly miles behind? Unless, of course, you believe Chelsea are as good as us right now. For me they're not even as good as Arsenal. As for the CL win, they won't win it again in such style.

We all know how this ends..
Press conference : I chose City because they are on the up. Only City fans in Manchester. Chance to make history. Part of something special. blah blah

I dont see Chelsea having much of a chance compared to us or City. If he is concerned about history and stability considering that Chelsea are still looking for a manager, yes they may want to give it to Di Matteo but I have heard they are looking for someone for a season because they want to try get Pep Guardiola in the long run so for a new player its anything but stable there, the only thing that has made him think slightly about them is that the have CL football next year.

City have no history at the moment, yes they may start building history over time but at present it is still non existent, winning a title on GD will not magically change that, its a mere stepping stone in the grand scheme of things. He has no guarantee of getting consistent starting place every week there either and if what we hear is true they are unwilling to be held to ransom over his salary demands.

In terms of football we are the best decision to make, stability in Fergie, best history there is and a bright future ahead. However it is in his hands now, I dont like the fact he wants to wait until after these friendlies purely because he will be with Kompany and regardless of what anyone may think there is the potential there for him to be swayed and influenced by him. It would be silly to think otherwise. He said a few weeks ago he would be playing in Manchester next season so I think he will stick to his guns and choose either United or City.

However if he is indeed all about the money then Chelsea will be in easily.

Fatality!!!!

I have a really good feeling Hazard will sign for us and take the 7. He likes to get the main attention, and he will get that. Ronaldo got it for sure, and he could be next.

I love how SSN "understands" that he has chosen United without anything to actually back it up.

You really believe that? Essien went to Chelsea because:

a) Chelsea outbid everyone by a good margin
b) Chelsea offered him big wages.

I'd say point a) was the main factor in Essien's transfer.

I remember Fergie saying in a presser that Chelsea had paid £27M for Essien, in a tone of 'can you believe it?' So they clearly outbid us by a big margin.

In hindsight, we should have bid £28M.

There should be a SSN fact book entitled Sky Sports News Understands.

Each page would have a list of things that SSN understands like

SSN understands that the longest female orgasm ever recorded lasted 30mins.

or

SSN understands that Welsh people can't blink.

I think he won't. Out of all three clubs they have very little going for them. The pull of London might be one of those things but other than that why would anyone decide to go there over United and City who are both much better?

I was very concerned when I heard Chelsea had joined the hunt. They can offer more money, and a better chance of playing, now that they're clearing out the old guard. Who have they got that's really top quality after all?

I am feeling quite confident that he'll join us, reasons being:

He publicly spoke of his admiration for SAF, even calling him the best coach in the world.

He could potentially wear the number 7 shirt, and he'll know for sure the legends that have worn the famous shirt for us.

We compete every single season for silverware, mainly the league and CL.

We have wonderful history and tradition, unlike those two plastic clubs.

Or he could be like the majority of players and join City, who can offer a lot more money and be challenging for the exact same silverware as us.

Kompany could be having a few words in his ear to join City when they're both at international duty

It's up there with the "BBC Sport understands" and "Sky Sources".

"Sky Sources have informed me that Harry Redknapp has not been approach for the England job..."

Have any of these threads ever ended in success?

It's very much looking like the Sánchez thread from last season (even the we don't need a winger/he's not a winger debate is present in both threads). I suspect the ending will be similar, only it won't be Barcelona who'll get the prize this time.

Okay, so we have lost some great signings over the years, but we are still Manchester United, and we can still get the best players in the world. I believe Hazard will sign for us.

The Sanchez thread was based on a lot less than this one was. I think we basically spoke to his agent or club and it was leaked from there and Barca quickly upped their interest and that was that. We've apparently agreed a contract with the player and have a good idea of what Lille are expecting and are happy with that too. We're just waiting and hoping to get the nod from Hazard and then it is a done deal.

Quiz time mofos...

Hazard is the only the second player to be awarded the Ligue 1 POTY in consecutive seasons...the only other player to achieve this was....?
