Yeah, they've been good, especially Skjelbred, but they looked spent. Still, Høgmo didn't change anything and still we got this. Hovland, Forren, Berget, take a bow. Nah, the whole team. That was great. We'll still finish third though.

Yeah, I'm not going to hope for anything better than that. You never know, tho'. Both Italy and Croatia need to do their part in the last few matches to keep us at bay. Either one could possibly slip. Or we could see a classic slip from Norway against Malta *shrug*

Chuffed for now, though :)

Holland will still claim the third spot IMO. Turkey has to face Czech Republic away from home and then host Iceland in the last game. They've been pretty shit before tonights game, struggling to beat the likes of Latvia at home.

Hopefully Robben returns in time for the last two games next month.

Czechs already qualified, and Iceland need a point from tonight's game against Kazakhstan to do the same. Could be helpful for Turkey.

Berget, class player like I said ;) He's been fantastic for Malmö, big game player it seem now too!

Superb match by Norway - and they actually played some nice football. Rakitic and Modric were simply awful.

And the wins against Bulgaria and Croatia will work wonders for Norways fifa ranking

Why have the Netherlands suddenly gotten so shite?
The level of football has been in steady decline since 2008. It's just the 'ugly' defensive style in recent years was pretty successful and masked this decline. Hiddink tried to play attacking football again, and well this mess is the result.

Look at the players they have at their disposal, They essentially have Robben and an ageing Sneijder and van persie, they just dont have the big talents coming through at the moment other than Robben junior (memphis).

Van Gaal did a greater than the sum of their parts type performance to get them to 3rd last year, not something they will be able to repeat.
You mean an ageing robben an ageing sneijder and an ageing van persie. I dont think memphis is good enough yet(and might not ever be good enough) to carry this dutch team. Do they really have no talents coming up in their system? I know the dutch dont produce many defenders but strikers/wingers/attacking mids that is their thing why is there a shortage now, have the dutch talent pools run dry? Any dutch supporter on board?

Krul never played for the big 3 in Holland and he is primarily a stop topper with poor distribution. Cillessen has been immense in the league for 2 seasons, has CL experience and the best statistics since Van de Sar.

I don't think Krul not having played for the big Dutch clubs should matter, as he's a starter for a Premier League club and has been great, especially since the start of the season. His distribution may not be as good, but I think he's the better shot stopper and should be starting at the moment.

Anyways, it's far from Holland's biggest problem. They really miss Robben as he's unplayable when he's on top of his game. They seem to lack the defensive solidity that was the case under Van Gaal and I think De Jong's absence is not helping at all.

Difficult times ahead for them. Van Persie, Sneijder, Robben, De Jong all in their 30s; lack of quality defenders apart from maybe Blind (despite his blunder against Turkey); Struggling to replace Van Gaal's knowledge, tactics and general influence; the apparent lack of young, quality players (with the obvious exception of Memphis Depay) that are ready to step up and help replace the contribution of the aforementioned key players.

I still think they'll make it to France though. Turkey are just too shit to see it through. Don't let tonight's result fool you.

That's true and maybe it will play a part in their motivation, but Turkey just aren't good enough to make it count. They only had 2 wins in their games before tonight's match and it was in the games against Kazakhstan. They even fecked up against Latvia on Thursday at home.

Hartson signs off by talking up the refereeing ability of his 5yr old daughter.

@Samid - congrats! Deserved victory. You were better the whole game, we were absolutely awful. One of the worst games of NT I saw in my life.

Something stinks really bad. I wouldn't be surprised if Niko Kovač got sacked tonight. And we will get Zoran Mamić, Zdravko Mamić's brother, let the circus continue!

Also Norway practically qualified. In the last game you can arrange a draw with Italy if we fail to beat Bulgaria or Malta which could happen since we're looking absolutely horrific right now.

Srna will dream about Berget tonight. Srna is an ex player and has been for few years. He should have retired long time ago.

If I get this right if we beat Bulgaria and Malta Norway need to beat Malta and Italy cause draw vs Italy won't be enough for Norway?

And, you know, a boring 0-0 draw in Italy will probably secure both teams a place in the Euros. And Italy don't mind a lil gentleman's agreement...

Not overly so..I just expected it..I supported them at last years world cup..but that was mostly because of the LVG-rvp connection
yeah. they are poor though, perhaps would have even struggled to get out of group stage. Turkey at least plays with a lot of energy and could get some results just based on sheer will power.

Turkey are also one of those teams that are dark horses for tournaments and seem to overperform above their level...but Its not over yet , two games to go.

I watched the first half of Wales and then fell asleep, saw it ended 0-0 but what hell happened to Holland? 3-0 defeat to Turkey? Are they out now?

Considering your goal difference that's most likely true... And I wouldn't bank on us as much as drawing away to Italy. We would really have to be on our game to get something out of that, I think.

Yours and Italy's to lose.

Italy vs Bulgaria is on ITV4 at 7:30 if anyone is interested.

Not Dutch but I watch a decent bit of youth football and I keep my eye on Ajax/PSv/Feyenoord. I think the Dutch will be ok in 4-5 years. They just really lack balance right now. The squad is all either pretty old or too young, with a real lack of CM's (really only Clasie, I consder Wijnaldum and Klaassen as more attacking midfielders). No players that should be in their primes (24-30) have replaced the previous generation of Robben,RVP,Sneijder,De Jong,Huntelaar or Van Bommel. But I think the next bunch are promising. Some players are at decent/good clubs, preparing to make the step up like De Vrij, Kishna,Clasie, Memphis and Blind. In another few seasons they should be peaking. The balance problems should be ok in a few seasons when Clasie matures and Bazoer moved to a bigger league. Players like Kishna, Von den Beek, El Ghazi, Bazoer, Promes and Kongolo look good so far. The problems mainly seem to be at centre forward and centre back though. Cillessen is a very decent keeper also, just had a poor mistake today.

Blind out muscled. Every manager will be watching the last two games he's played and put their biggest forward onto him.

As for Cillensen. Thankfully that never happened. Never in a million years good enough for us.

Hrm, if any team were to be fine with it, I guess it would be them, but somehow I don't see that scenario happening ;P

I think head to head counts which is in our favor too.
But I think we could end up with a new coach tonight and god knows what will happen. Wouldn't be surprised if we don't beat Bulgaria or Malta. Or both.

:nervous::nervous::lol::lol:

Oops. He's still too good to not be in your squad I feel.

Yep, without a doubt. He was the first world-class player we had since Stoichkov. I don't think we'll have another anytime soon.

Hehe, nope.

Ah, bollocks, I thought we were on 17 points now. Right, we'll most likely need to beat Italy then.

We are on 14 points now cause Uefa still hasn't deducted that one point which they will on 17th. So yeah if we win both games Norway needs to beat Italy.

Do you follow the Bulgarian league? Is Bjørn Maars Johnsen any good? He was mentioned as a potential NT striker before the Bulgaria match.

Sorry man, can't help you there. The Bulgarian league is a waste of time and is painful to watch so I don't really bother doing it.
