that's strange. I always thought Bulgaria were quite decent with one or two stars playing across top leagues in Europe while having a good defensive style of play.
We were a decent team in 2004 (qualified for the Euroes and heroically lost all three group stage games) and that's about it. Since then there have been some shocks here and there, but the Berbatov/Martin Petrov/Stilyan Petrov generation flopped, partly because there wasn't much support for them from the other players and partly because our Football federation kept appointing the most cheap options out there, just like our current coach, who last managed some shite team in Cyprus. Funny thing is, before the Cypriot team, he was appointed as a manager of Levski Sofia, but at the official unveiling, some Levski idiot-fans entered the room and made Petev take off his Levski jersey in front of every fecking camera and reporter and made him leave because he was a fan of their bitter rivals - CSKA. It was embarrassing and funny at the same time. Funny because it's full of fanatic morons over here. I guess fanatic support is quite common for the Balkans.
Anyways, we won't have another world-class player for a while, I'm sure of it. There's no one of note coming through really. Berbatov retired from the team a bit too early for everyone's liking, but I can't blame him for his decision given the corrupt federation. Similar thing happened with our best ever volleyball player - Matey Kaziyski.
As for the current players - we have some decent players, but nothing more. Georgi Milanov plays for CSKA Moscow, but is not a current starter there. We also have Ivelin Popov of Spartak Moscow and Ivaylo Chochev, who's a starter for Palermo.
