Europa League 2015/2016

0 games lost in Europe too. Some of them under Rodgers strangely.

Two of the most boring draws in history  Need to go on and beat Swansea now, and we'll have had a great 7 days.

Have you seen the challenge in question? Straight through the back of the Molde player.

No, i meant Bruno Alves does that crap every game. He's a very dirty player.

No I knew what you meant originally, just wondered if you'd seen it so you had a chance to judge just how bad it ranked as a 'Bruno Alves' tackle. He looked disgusted at getting a yellow too.

John Giles happy with Mr Klopp.

"They were made for each other" - John Giles on Klopp and Liverpool"

John Giles reckons Jurgen Klopp's personality traits and past history make him a perfect fit for the challenge at Liverpool.

With players at Anfield already taking on board his ideas and two excellent away wins under his belt, John told Off The Ball that the German manager's past exploits show what he could do for Liverpool.

"I think he was made for Liverpool. Dortmund weren't one of the really big clubs in Germany and he did what he did and won the league twice," said John.

"I think Liverpool are in a similar position that Dortmund were in. A great club, but haven't been doing very well lately. But he knew about the history of Liverpool. He respected the history of the club and I feel they were made for each other.

"If he does what I expect him to do, then the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United will all say 'why didn't we go for that guy?' The only thing, they all had managers at the time. He went to Liverpool when Brendan Rodgers was sacked and I'd say they must have had him lined up before Brendan Rodgers was sacked because he was free."

Picky? Bar United we'd be the biggest club he's ever managed. I'd imagine he'd jump at the chance.

Then again, our board are vermin who'd offer him 50p and a packet of monster munch to go and attract players with. So maybe he wouldn't. If he had a brain he wouldn't.

I'd hope we look elsewhere though. His football is crap and when you're going to win pretty much every domestic game you play you at least want to be entertained otherwise what's the point in even watching.
Didn't mean to sound condescending but the league as a whole is much lower down the prestige list than the English and Spanish, I don't know whether his newly found (and disproportionately large) ego would let him. Even at a club as big as Celtic.

@TonyBarretTimes: Klopp to a journalist taking his time asking a question: "You wait almost as long as Simon Mignolet taking a kick"

Interested to see if Chicharito can continue his goalscoring when Bayer go to Lisbon tonight.

You won't see it mate because he is injured :smirk:

Ooh, that's good news for Sporting.

Perhaps mate but i don't know if it will make a big difference. Our manager already said that he is going to do some rotation and play without some starters. Our main focus is the league where we are first and i don't think we are going to take the Europa League very seriously. Leverkusen are favourites.

You still did very well to reach this stage considering the fact Europa is far from your priority. Thought you were out after that defeat at home against Lokomotiv Moscow.

Dortmund starting 11:
Burki, Piszczek, Schmelzer, Sokratis, Hummels, Sahin, Weigl, Kagawa, Reus, Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan

Porto starting 11:
Casillas, Layun, Martins Indi, Varela, Jose Angel, Herrera, Neves, Sergio Oliveira, Brahimi, Marega, Aboubakar

Yep and most of the supporters thought we wouldn't make it. I'm going to be honest, i wanted us out because i didn't want thursday night european football to distract us from our main object, the league. Didn't expect us to obliterate Besiktas and Lokomotiv away in the last games with our subs though.

I don't understand this Porto lineup. I guess they aren't caring much about the Europa League like Sporting. Looks like Marcano didn't recover. Who's playing CB along with Martins Indi? Is Varela playing RB? Sérgio Oliveira starting for the first time in the season in an important match? Marega (who was bought two weeks ago) instead of Corona? What a mess this team. I think Porto will lose heavily.

According to my source, Layun is CB next to Indi and Varela is RB.

Fiorentina (3-4-2-1): Tatarusanu; Rodriguez, Tomovic, Astori, Alonso; Costa, Blaszczykowski; Borja Valero, Zarate, Bernardeschi; Ilicic.
Substitutes: Sepe, Pasqual, Badelj, Vecino, Babacar, Mati Fernandez, Kalinic.

Tottenham Hotspur (4-2-3-1): Vorm; Trippier, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Davies; Carroll, Mason; Eriksen, Alli, Son; Chadli.
Substitutes: McGee, Rose, Walker, Dembele, Dier, Onomah, Kane.

Liverpool are unchanged from Villa apparently so Sturridge starts again with Firmino and Coutinho.

0 - 1 to Spurs at HT. Chadli with the pen after Ben Davies brought down.

Expected a bit better from Dortmund. That's Porto C, not even B. Hope they score two more in the second half

Good performance so far?

Not bad, considering only 5 of the starting XI started against City at the weekend,. However we've been lucky Fiorentina haven't scored - one of their players missed a sitter. But generally we've contained them and controlled much of the game.

whats their a team?

Casillas; Maxi Pereira, Marcano, Martins Indi, Layun; Danilo, Herrera, André André; Brahimi, Corona, Aboubhakar. Before you say they have a reasonable number of starters, i have to mention that they are playing with just one CB Martins Indi, Layun as CB when he's a full back, Varela as RB when he's a winger that rarely plays, Sérgio Oliveira playing for the first time as starter this year (with Lopetegui he wasn't even called up), Marega (bought two weeks ago and already criticized by Porto fans). Their defense and defensive midfield is completely new. I just don't understand how Dortmund isn't taking advantage of that.

cheers. I didn´t know that. I thought that Neves and H.Herrera would be more or less starter.

Neves not a chance. He's still a very interesting young player but he's losing a bit of steam, just like last year. Herrera was a sub but when Imbula left/got dropped he regained his place

Fiorentina equalize.

Why are Porto not fielding a stronger team? I can understand against lower quality opposition but against Dortmund?

With their away win at Benfica, they are just 3 points behind Benfica and 6 behind us. They prefer to focus on the league. If they had lost at Benfica, i think they would have given more importance to the Europa League.

Fiorentina 1 - Spurs 1 FT.

A draw was fair result, but also a decent away draw for Spurs. With our away goal we should on paper be favourites to go through in the 2nd leg at home.

Pretty damn strong competition this year. It'll get real iinteresting when down to the last 16/8.

Anyway, here we go...

1-0 Valencia. Neville>Van Gaal

ASSE 3-2 FC Basel FT
For information Embolo has shown glimpses of quality but was well handled overall by Saint-Etienne.
