Everton vs. Man United

I don't want the same as everyone else, I'd like us to try a few things, don't bother playing the players that are leaving and build for next season, perhaps a good chance to see if any younger players can get some game time. I'd start with a fairly safe line-up but have a few young'uns on the bench, like so:

DDG
Varela Evans Smalling Buttner
Jones Cleverley
Nani Mata Januzaj
Hernandez

Subs:Golini, James, Rothwell, Pearson(Ekan/Perriera) & Wilson

I also would like to see a few young players intoduced but be realistic, are you serious with that?

Deadly realistic, tell me how the first XI is so weak you had to check I was being serious? It's only the fullbacks replaced and Buttner played the first half against Bayern?

I didn't say anything about the first X1. Have a look at the bench.

You have to introduce these guys carefully. A game where we will more than likely be losing at Goodison isn't the same as coming on when we are leading at Old Trafford. Just doesn't make any sense 7 or so players who have never seen the pitch in the Premier League.

If you read my first comment though, I pointed out, I see a different POINT in the games left, time to bed players at a higher level rather than chance a second tier competition. I realise I may be alone in these thoughts but pointed them out as it needed to be said to explain my selection.

The bench being that weak or inexperienced goes in hand with my idea of playing the youngers, only 3 of them can even get on the field, chances are even if he pulled on all 3 players, they'd likely get 30 mins, 15 mins and maybe 5/10 mins of pitch time individually, I really think some underestimate some of our players, I'm not saying replace the first squad, but if you think players like Pearson/Eki/Perriera (Can't spell the latter, but the Belgian lad) are 100x worse than Cleverley then your premise is incorrect, they aren't. Are they ready for PL football? God no, but you aren't going to be ready if you don't start getting ready by pinching a few minutes here and there, it'd also help in regards to the summer signings ..

I can't understand some of the comments here. We should play our strongest side and try our damnedest to win. Until we get beat here there is still a fighting chance of 4th. If we get beat by Everton THEN the season is officially over and time to play the yoof.

Do I think we will beat them? Nope. But to give up until the final whistle goes is madness.

It's not fair to simply chuck a bunch of kids in a difficult game like Everton away. Especially since their season is still alive.

That's not really how you blood youngsters. You don't set them up for a tonking on their debut.

To those of you wishing to see reserve and youth players, do you really think Moyes can afford to do so? Manchester United's season may be over, but David Moyes is still under the microscope.

Looking at Everton's last fixtures, we better take this seriously. A win here and we could be back in with a shout.

This...

Everton have one or 2 tricky games, as do Spurs. We have to keep at it and show fight. Imagine the 'Moyes out' brigade if we finish 15 points from 4th?? doesnt bear thinking about.
We have to win at Goodison, and i believe we will.

I honestly think there is nothing more to play for this season. A series of friendlies

I sincerely hope the team arent approaching the games on that basis.

I hope too as after they're pros and they owe the fans who pay expensively to follow them, some very good performances.

As the season gets to a close, players will already have one eye on the World Cup. They won't want to jeopardise their place by getting injured, so expect half hearted tackles

A good bunch of them will want to prove they should even go. Mata playing just to get in the squad, Welbeck playing for a starting place, Carrick, Nani, Jones, Smalling, maybe a few others. Rooney and Evra are probably the only players in our squad who will start almost definitely (and I'm not even sure on Evra).

As long as he starts for Man Utd regularly, Evra will start for France. No other LB sadly comes close to him.

Must win. I still think we have a small chance of making 4th. Needless to say, we need to win all of our games, which would obviouly include taking points off a rival in Everton. After that we hope for the best. They still have to play City too. Nobody knows what Arsenal will do anymore, but we definitely still have a chance, albeit slim.

Play everyone who will still be here next season. If Moyes has a plan, a system and a formation that he wants to implement then this is what he should starting doing from now until May.

There's no chance, they're 6 points ahead of us with a game in hand, if they win that they're 9 points ahead, if we get a draw up there, which would be a good result based on their form and playing style, compared to ours, it'll still be 9 points, if we lose we'll probably be 12points behind.
Stop hoping against hope for your own mental well being this year, we've not won a top 6 game away all year, we're 7th, and have been nearly all season, thats what we are under Moyes this year, a 7th placed team, accept it and save yourself the heartache.

Why have your outcomes not considered if we win against them? Why is 'a draw' the best we should hope for? Games in hand are not points. They have us and City to play, and they could very feasibly lose both. Who knows after that?

Not to sound rude, but I'm unable to word it an a more friendly tone, (blame my ignorant English skills) but... there's a fine line between optimism and delusion, "Delusion: a fixed false belief that is resistant to reason or confrontation with actual fact."
Lets look at the facts stockpiled on this season, we've been 7th approaching the entire season consolidating the fact that after 33 out of 38 games in... that's the reality of where we are as a team to this point.
Lets look at our performances in big games against top 6 sides, such as Everton as it's the task at hand, 1 win in 11 so far for Moyes against the top 6, if you were a "betting man" you wouldn't be placing your money on your suggested win... based on facts so far.

Lets now define our current form under the "turned the corner lately" theory, we've beaten relegation talented sides such as Palace and West Brom, and teams already on their holiday such as Newcastle,
sandwiched inbetween them however against sturdy, real opposition, real tests with teams still playing for honours, City at home, Liverpool at home and Bayern, have seen Moyes United fail them all, continuing the trend since the start of the season: Moyes United when it's mattered, have come up short and are continuing to do so.

An opportunity for DM to stop playing the guys he might not need next season.. Get the youngster in and start building a core to move forward..
I am a big fan of our squad at present but the sake of progression he is gotta be making the changes, we don't need him to try proving a point against Everton. Lets just think longterm from now to season end.
Everton seem to be a very good ball playing side under Martinez and a good display against them will show him were some of our lads are.

no mucking about with the lineup, we have nothing else to play for, and are against an Everton who just smashed Arsenal.

Give this one last big performance, then we have 3 home games to piss about in

Just have a feeling this game will continue the trend of the season so far. Gain momentum against the mid-lower table teams, look like everything's back on track for a while and we've 'turned a corner' then play a team above us and get knocked right back to square one.
Rinse and repeat.

There is no need to attempt to educate me on our performances this season, I have not missed them. That said, I have followed football for long enough to know that it is possible for us, if we beat Everton, to make up another 3 or 4 points on them over 4 games of football.

Your so-called fine line between optimism and delusion would have seen United win the league 2 years ago instead of City making up 8 points in 6 games.

All we can do is our own job, and if for whatever reason, Everton (or Arsenal) fail to do theirs, we are there. Such is football. I'm not saying we are favourites or anything. I've just watched football for enough years to know that you do not give teams points for games that are yet to be played. If the teams above us go ahead and win their games, good for them. if they don't, we need to make sure it's good for us.

Everton and Arsenal. And Spurs, although that's easier to imagine.

We've just played Bayern Munich twice and they didn't manage to 'knock us right back to square one'.

I didn't say we don't need to give these guys a run, there is nothing more I want to see. However, giving them their debut in a situation like that makes no sense. Why not bring them off the bench at Old Trafford in front of our fans in an 'easier' game?

I know you were looking at it from a different point of view but whatever the view is, a bit of realism wouldn't hurt.

Maybe I should have said league form. We've done alright in the CL, relatively speaking. It's in the PL where it's been one step forward, two back all season.
