Everton vs. Manchester United

A well rested and fresh team will be:

......................VDS.............................
.Rafael...Rio/Smalling...Brown....Evra.
.....Carrick...Scholes...Anderson........
..................Giggsy............................
..........Berbatov...Owen....................

Not a bad team if Rio and Brown are fit.

This is a joke, right?

Your not serious are you? Who's playing on the wing then? Looks a bit narrow to me, but maybe you know something the rest of us don't...No Vidic? Great plan, and no Rooney either...all I can say is thank God for SAF...

tough place to go when so many of our players on international duty and might be feeling fatigue.

at least scholes will have 2-week rest.

You guys have to learn the United way.

We never settle for a draw, a draw is 2 points dropped.

We always play to win & never give up until the last minute.

Happy with a draw indeed....:nono:

I never said anything about not expecting us to win. A simple modest draw would do me as a minimum. I think I know that we don't play for draws.

Corry Evans and Darron Gibson are on international duty as is Rafael who is called up for a week long training session with Brazil. Kuszczak hasn't been called up for Poland. Smalling, Bébé, Cleverley, Norwood, Macheda are all probably going to be on youth duty.

I'd say O'Shea might be rested after his journey to Yerevan.

Thanks for clearing that up. I've just read that Saha has been called up for the France squad too, apparently, so that's another of their players involved.

Would anyone play Rooney LW?

I think it is 90% likely we will play 4-3-3. I want to see Berba.

If we lose, 'Rooney playing LW doesn't work' etc, but he is going to be playing against only Hibbert.

I think it makes sense, but I'm sure SAF has his reasons for not doing it.

..........................VDS.............................

O'Shea........Vidic(c)......Evans............Evra

............Carrick..Scholes..Fletcher.............

Nani...................Berbatov..............Rooney

I realise this is unlikely to be the team but I don't see why this couldn't be an option. Berbatov can't be dropped after his performances in three of the last four games, but equally I don't think we have the players to play 442 against a quality, combative midfield like Everton's. Therefore push Rooney out to the left wing where he has perfromed wonderfully before, can link up with Evra and will see alot more of the ball than he ever does up front. Nani can play on his preffered right wing and our front three can be fluid anyway. I know people don't want to see Rooney back out wide but I think some of his best performances in a utd shirt were on the wing, he's happy as long as he sees alot of the ball and he's bound to if he's sharing a flank with Evra.

Why is everyone suggesting that we'll play 4-5-1. Last year we started with 2 strikers. Than Berba got subbed, than back to4-4-2 with Owen.
I think a 4-4-2 is most likely the formation with Park on the wing for extra cover. If SAF wants to experiment with lone off form Rooney, I'd be very unhappy. And Rooney has no alternative. In the 4-5-1

Some very funny team selections imo.

Why change 4-4-2 when Scholes and Fletcher who are probably the best MF duo in the PL at this moment ?

Carrick certainly will get game time in the CL's against Rangers and he'll certainly be used as a sub against Everton.

Scholes will definately start Vs Everton and Liverpool so keep playing him while he's top form.

I'm concerned more about LW as Nani again displayed a Motm performance on the right and Giggs was just superb on the left again.

We need Obertan fit soon and we also need Valencia to gain top form.

I'd stick to the team that played Westham and will start tinkering in the CL's match.

Same team Vs Everton

Carrick, Valencia, Rafael, Anderson to start the CL's rest Scholes and Giggs and put Nani left and use maybe Hernandez-Berbs up front against Rangers.

Our best team Vs Liverpool... We need to finish them off and it'd be depressing losing to this awful side who was out classed by even West Brom.

Terrible time to play them...

I see a draw, hopefully our boys can get some revenge.

They are a bunch of game raising cnuts though so i won't be shocked if we even lose to them. Tough game though...Gollum might slip something precious into their water cause they seem to really be up for it when we come round.

You're just contradicting yourself. If Nani and Giggs were excellent then why do we need Obertan? He's not ready to replace either, and I doubt he can come in and do a better job away to a team like Everton.

Valencia needs to find form, and i'm sure he will, but if he plays, then Nani has to sit on the bench, and that to me isn't an option given how well Nani has done in the last game.

Barring injury we should go with the same lineup. The break should give the likes of Scholes and Giggs the break they need.

I just hope SAF doesn't bring Owen on as a sub. Other then that, go with the same team, if we're doing well, bring on Carrick and Hernandez. Hopefully Rooney doesn't have a poor game...for some inexplicable reason in the last few years he's had some shocking displays against the blues.

Half of you lot are mad .... If we play 433, Berbatov has to start and Rooney can stew on the bench. The United first XI should never be a bedding ground to help players gain form.

Rooney needs to shape up. If he's clever, he can do that on England's time, not ours.

I'm concerned on Giggs as he is going to be used as both CM and LW, just pointing out that we need a bit of back up for him.

Also the fact that Nani has always done well on the right makes me want to keep him there at times. Hoping Valencia and Rooney both find the form of last season when both were getting each other involved more...

Currently Nani and Giggs are both on form so thats why I'd like to keep this combination for now... We'll unleash Park and Valencia for Rangers as we're going Away and need that coverup ( just in case )

All and all, we will rotate as we never have a fixed starting 11... not unless Scholes and Fletch can both keep this up for 40 consequetive games that is... They have both started off insanely well.

I think our retired, suspended & non-internationals should start this one virtue of freshness.

-----------------------------Van Der Sar--------------------------

--Neville------------Vidic-------------Smalling------------Evra---

--Nani--------------Scholes----------Anderson-------------Giggs---

Subs: Kuzczak, Rafael, Brown, Carrick, Fletcher, Macheda, Rooney
Prediction:1-2 away victory for United. Berbatov, Owen.

Neville ? I wouldnt do that. Everton away is no cakewalk and he's coming back from injury besides I dont even think he's even matchfit yet. Same for Anderson.

You just answered your own question mate, we were completely overrun in midfield last time we played Everton.

Neville?? wtf why dont you put Owen Hargreaves there instead he would be just as effective with no knees!

I hope we perform better than last season..but I think its a bad time to play them they need a win badly!

--------------VDS----------------
---Rafael - Vidic - Evans - Evra---
Valencia - Scholes - Rodwell - Nani
----Berbatov - Rooney------------

The amount of line-ups posted that include Valencia would suggest nobody read my bumper post of which players were playing which internationals and where.

Do people really think he'll be ready to play at Saturday lunchtime after playing in Mexico and Venezuela days before. Park playing in South Korea a few days before Everton as well?

I'd love to be wrong and for them to turn in superb performances at Goodison but I can't help but think they'll be rested.

With Scholes and an Anderson who hasn't played in 6 months in CM, we'd get bummed all the way back down the M62....with or without Smalling in defence

The midfield needs to be on top if we are to get anything from this fixture. Everton tend to raise their game whenever they play us at Goodison and with a noisy crowd to lift them I don't expect anything different from them. We need to show that we have learned from our feeble capitulation last season.
However knowing our midfield I don't think we will win the battle in that area

This team with Fletch and Scholes shielding the back four properly wins the game for me.

Steven Pienaar will be playing for South Africa this Saturday (4 Sept) vs Niger in a African Cup of Nations Qualifier.

Been dealing with hosting a darts tournament for the last two weeks and missed the last few games (something I NEVER DO), get back and fk me, more Internationals. I'm not happy

Anyone think we will play 451. I would prefer it to be 442.

Decent enough team, you'd imagine that some squad management will be involved in the selection though:

Positives:
1. Van der Sar, Kuszczak, DeLaet, Evra, Brown, Scholes, Giggs, Berbatov and Owen not in action
2. As are Neville, Ferdinand and Anderson working towards fitness.
3. Both Carrick and Gibson unlikely to be in much international action
4. Rafael da Silva only on a squad training exercise, and that in Spain too.
5. Apart from Jonny Evans no international injured so far, who has a week to recover
6. Fletcher and O'Shea have "less challenging" home games, Vidic faces Slovenia after an unbothered game against the Faroese, Rooney wasn't too bothered by Bulgaria game either.
7. Apart from O'Shea and Gibson none of the Europeans had a long journey and both only play Andorra in Dublin the next game.
8. Everton have Saha, Jagielka, Bilyaletdinov, Mucha (sub goalie), Fellaini in action as well as Pinnear who faces a qualifier in Africa. Also Rodwell, Yakubu and Phil Neville are working their way back from injury.
9. No Landon Donavon either, United's defence should be stronger and fresher.
10. In an emergency Corry Evans offers an option.

On the negative:
1. Valencia and Hernandez have two games in the Americas, including one game against each other
2. Park Ji Sung has a game in South Korea
3. Nani and Rooney face highly competitive second games, Rooney perhaps upfront on his own.
4. 1, 2 & 3 mean Three main wingers and two main strikers at risk of exhaustion, with little in reserve ... literally little ... Owen and Bébé.
5. Jonny Evans injury combined with Ferdinand needing match practice. Minor risks to Vidic, Fletcher, O'Shea and Gibson but the last three are taking on rough amateur sides.
6. Smalling, Bébé, Macheda all involved in two U21 games.
7. Neville, Rafael, Anderson, Brown or Ferdinand may have to make the bench if needed but their match fitness may be questionable, Carrick could have to start.
8. Fabio, Obertan and Hargreaves appear to be on the treatment table too.
9. 4-5-1 might be needed against Everton .... given 4. this probably means Berbatov upfront on his own with Rooney/Nani on wings or a wingless wonder formation bringing in Carrick and one of Owen, Anderson or Gibson.
10. Could've used Howard going to North America for a friendly but the States arent playing.

What were our last results there again?

Everton 0-1 Man Utd [07/08]
Everton 2-1 Man Utd [08/09]
Everton 3-1 Man Utd [09/10]

I think, could be wrong though..

08/09 result was 1-1. Fellaini equalised with his big boof
