Evra accuses Suarez of racist remarks | Suarez guilty of racial abuse

This issue reaches far beyond football

The problem is that most of these people (Suarez, the fans) are voluntarily kept ignorant of what the N-word implies, and what befell black people for hundreds of years.. because it is precisely their ancestors who committed those crimes, and that they do not want to face the truth of their own acts both at the time of the British empire, and of the colonization of South America. Rather than reflecting on past mistakes, societies sweep it all under the carpet and blame others.

That way, you end up with the Uruguay national football team today bearing the nickname Los Charruas, after indigenous tribes of Uruguay massacred in their entirety by Luis Suarez's ancestors, the Spanish colons, and who disappeared altogether in 1831. Sadly, this mass delusion from Uruguay or Liverpool fans and Suarez himself is the byproduct of voluntary ignorance of past deeds committed against black people throughout the British Empire and indigenous people in South America. How would that fit with their siege mentality if they were told they were once the dominant force who enslaved millions and killed scores of innocents ? Not saying all Liverpool fans are descendants of English colonialists but still, the general environment is one of guilt and the blinkered sight today is down to past crimes yesterday.

Same for the Australians quoted above by Flying Fox, kept ignorant of what their ancestors did and all the White Australia policies.

Even Christopher Columbus is today regarded as some kind of hero when he was in fact little else than a mass murderer guilty of the worst crimes against humanity ever.

To be fair, I think everyone on that thread (inc. me) is well aware of what Europeans and White Australians have done to the country. In the instance of that thread, I don't think anyone could be accused of being ignorant on that basis, it's more a case of an overriding sense of tribalism that has played one side off against the other.

You know that the English are probably the only people to completely satisfy the concept of genocide. Obviously there are far worse cases in the world that have happened, but their settlement of Tasmania wiped out the entire aboriginal population.

We known what our ancestors did and we're not proud of it, but don't try and guilt trip people into thinking that we're the only ones with human rights issues.

Similar to the sunderland thread, have a geeze at this one. Idiocy on this isn't limited to just the northern hemisphere it seems

Suarez charged with racism by the FA - BigFooty

Which Sunderland forum was that?? I was on Ready To Go yesterday and the thread had a lot of disgust for Liverpool and their actions in this saga.

In fact, the majority of football forums I've been on/seen have been outraged by Liverpool's behaviour and in agreement that Suarez deserved to be punished based on the facts that we know... which has been refreshing I must say. I wonder if Liverpool and some of their fans will start to realise that, if the majority of the country think you're in the wrong... then maybe you are actually in the wrong.

The majority of articles I've read say Liverpool are in the wrong, I was listening to Football Weekly today and they said that what Liverpool did was illadvised at best and only likely to stir up more trouble.

The only people who think what they've done is fine are Liverpool themselves.

Anyone have any links to leading Asenal forum links on this. Would like to hear their consensus. Surprised to see Blue Moon civil about this issue. RAWK is just mental.

Every pool player wearing Suarez 7 jerseys in training. Pool have handled this entire episode very poorly.

Christ, Super Kevin is still at it?! I read some of page 38-40, that was hilarious I have to admit, but now it's just frightening.

But that forum was not defending Suarez at all, besides that one maniac Liverpool fan, so surely that supports Annihilate Now!'s point.

Well when I mentioned RTG earlier to compare it with the thread I linked, I meant it in the vein of "one stupid scouse twat keeps digging a hole".

What I'm saying is that this is still a very ongoing issue since people have failed to bring a closure to it by recognizing their crimes. The Australian authorities' refusal to hand Peter Norman an invitation to the 2000 Sidney Olympics testifies to that.

These were the Australians of 2000 indeed, not those of several decades ago.

Here's a thread on an Arsenal forum.

Arsenal Forum - View topic - Luis Suarez banned for 8 games

It includes this comment from a Liverpool fan:

Good. He deserves it. They had an investigation, and he got found guilty of making racist remarks.

An 8 game ban is a deserved punishment for his actions. Now we (LFC) will have to take some slack for our main striker not being available for a large chunk of the next few months.

In the future it might make him think twice about being racist towards another player if he knows in the back of his mind that it wouldn't just be him that might be affected, but a whole club. All the fans too.

Restores a much-needed bit of faith in humanity, eh?

Just as think you can start generalising, some-one has to ruin the fun. 'kin scousers.

Shamelessy stolen from that Sunderland forum.

The word itself isn't what makes it racist, it's the usage of that word. I can't imagine what reason Suarez had to use it merely as a descriptive noun midway through a United vs. Liverpool derby?

"Hey Patrice, I've just noticed that you're a black man"
or
"Hello my opponent who just so happens to be a black man, did you watch the Graham Norton Show last night?"

If he's using the colour of his skin to deliberately rile him it is racist even if the word itself isn't. It's about intent/meaning/delivery, and that is universal. Suarez wasn't innocently using the word even though the word can be used innocently.

that just went over his head and the head of retardman.

God, that's appalling. A blind 3-year old could write better than that. Perhaps, he thinks he's achieved something by managing to type more than one word per paragraph?

What I love with some of the Liverpool fans who want Evra to be banned, is that they defend Suarez because of a supposed lack of evidence. Despite that, they'll happily see Evra banned, while there's no evidence to imply that he has done anything wrong.
