Evra accuses Suarez of racist remarks | Suarez guilty of racial abuse

As the Suárez uproar finally recedes (until the Manchester United game on Feb 11), the light settles on the astounding tide of vilification and anger stemming from some Liverpool fans, who have used Twitter, blogs and other social media sites to express volcanic indignation at outsiders who dare to be critical of the player or Liverpool’s myopic handling of the case.

Monitor the thoughts on or around the Kop and you will find many Liverpool fans who were embarrassed by the unwillingness to at least acknowledge that an offence was indeed committed by Suárez in his choice of language.

But this more balanced thinking was shouted down by the tribalists who regard all challenging comment as illegitimate and malicious and therefore to be met with abuse.

Liverpool fans' raging at anyone daring to criticise Luis Suarez or the club is typical of angry times we live in - Telegraph

It's nice of the fans to leave evidence of what he's talking about below the article.

Hats off to Hayward, a master fisherman at work.

Glad we have refused the supposed 'peace talks' with Liverpool.

The damage has been done to Liverpool and Suarez' reputations and they have only themselves to blame. This has been laughable from the day Dalglish stated that he hoped Evra would recieve punishment from the FA for reporting Suarez.

Exactly. Why should we help to repair their public image? They've done nothing but try to shatter ours.

Slightly Blatterish from LFC.

'If someone is racially abused we should hold meetings after and make up'

After an awkward day for Oliver Holt on Twitter yesterday, the man has redeemed himself today with a beauty:

If LFC want peace talks, why have they spent the last few weeks working their supporters into a frenzy?

It's a question they should be made to answer too. He outdid Fergie with that smackdown.

Sounds as if they're worried Evra's going to press for libel.

Peace off, Liverpool.

I've been pressed on twitter by some guy who thinks Evra saying the n word makes his case less reliable. He didnt like my comment on the daily fail where I said, 'did the daily fail forget that evra is black?'

Maybe I missed something.....

"LOOK LOOK! they didn't want peace talks! They're worse than we are!!"

Yet another play for victim status.

Maybe ,but I still think that slimebag should walk up to the nearest black dude he sees and call him a "black cnut". You know, just so he can find out first hand if his boss and best friend Terry is racist.

Regarding the peace talk United should just release a statement saying something along the lines of: "We've done our talking behind the scenes throughout the case and will continue to do so. What Liverpool has said and done has no relevance to MUFC and because of that we don't see the need for peace talk."

Fergie was right to laugh at it like he did. Hope the club maintains that stance, because it's Liverpool's own fault that they're in this mess. If they've been quiet - like the FA told them to be - this would only have been about Suarez. If they'd done the only reasonable thing and told him to make a proper apology he'd probably have gotten away with less than 8 games ban and most neutrals would've forgotten the case by summer. As it stands now Liverpool's reputation is tarnished for the next many years because of their disgraceful behaviour and there's no way it should be United's responsibility to help regain some of what they've lost. Let Liverpool deal with it themselves.

United should do nothing of the sort. Our dignified silence throughout has been the perfect contrast to Liverpool's handwringing and collective frenzy. We've played it brilliantly and have no need to make any sort of public statement.

How more insane can Liverfool get? One minute they're shouting for Evra to be lynched, the next they start a hippie commune and smoke a peace wackybacky with United. Too late suckers, you're fecked!!!

Any videos of Fergie's reaction to the 'peace talks'?

So liverpool want to hold peace talks so that there will not be 90+ minutes of constant abuse direct towards saurez, without the help their best player might not play, or do pretty much nothing in the game (just like normal) if he is selected

They must think sir alex is a bonkers as kenny the drunk

United have no obligation to help Liverpool out of the mess they have created themselves. SAF and United have been quite brilliant throughout while down the road their heads have literally fallen off. First thing Liverpool should do is graciously accept the verdict and apologise to Evra. That would defuse the whole situation. Not try to rope United, who have been dignified throughout into some sort of mutual acceptance of wrongdoing. SAF was spot on in his response

Pictures or it hasn't happened.

'As far as Manchester United and Patrice Evra are concerned the case has been dealt with by the FA and is now closed'. This new tack is clearly Henry and co trying to do some damge limitation after King Donkey's stupidities. They never wanted him in the first place so he better watch it.

Kick It Out's Lord Ouseley has labelled Liverpool "hypocritical" over their handling of Luis Suarez's eight-match ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra.

Liverpool players wore T-shirts in support of Uruguayan Suarez - a move Ouseley has called "dreadful".

Lord Ouseley also said Reds striker Suarez's apology was "lamentable".

The anti-racism campaign's chairman said: "Liverpool need to take a hard look at themselves. Suarez's attempt at a belated apology is lamentable."

I cannot believe a club of Liverpool's stature, with how it has previously led on matters of social injustice and inequality, can allow its integrity and credibility to be debased by such crass and ill-considered responses/ Lord Ouseley Chairman, Kick It Out anti-racism campaign

Liverpool are not appealing against the Football Association suspension and £40,000 fine imposed on Suarez by an independent commission for his comments towards Manchester United defender Evra at Anfield on 15 October.

Suarez did not mention Evra by name in his apology and has also stated that he would carry out the suspension "with the resignation of someone who hasn't done anything wrong".

Kick It Out had previously commended Liverpool for choosing not to appeal against the ban.

A statement on its website on Wednesday said: "We commend Liverpool FC in bringing closure to this matter, reaffirming its commitment to an unequivocal, zero-tolerance approach towards discrimination in football."

However, Lord Ouseley, who was chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality from 1993 to 2000, wrote in the Guardian: "Liverpool need to take a hard look at themselves and how they have responded to the complaint and the investigations into the allegations of abuse in the Patrice Evra/Luis Suarez case.

"Throughout the entirety of the proceedings, over the past three months, all we have heard are denials and denigration of Evra.

"Since the publication of the 115-page report of the findings of the FA's independent commission, Liverpool's vitriol has increased.

"Suarez's attempt at a belated apology is nothing short of lamentable.

"I cannot believe that a club of Liverpool's stature, and with how it has previously led on matters of social injustice and inequality, can allow its integrity and credibility to be debased by such crass and ill-considered responses.

"Liverpool have been particularly hypocritical. You can't on the one hand wear a Kick It Out T-shirt in a week of campaigning against racism when this is also happening on the pitch: it's the height of hypocrisy.

"Liverpool players wore a T-shirt saying: 'We support Luis Suarez', seemingly whatever the outcome. This was a dreadful knee-jerk reaction because it stirs things up."

Piara Powar, executive director of Football Against Racism in Europe, believes the FA would be within its rights to charge Liverpool and its manager Kenny Dalglish over their handling of the situation.

"Liverpool have constantly undermined the investigation and its outcome," he told BBC Sport.

"They have been disrespectful to the FA and questioned its integrity and neutrality.

"If a manager had done that in a post-match interview the FA would have brought disrepute charges."

It is understood that the FA has no plans to charge either Liverpool or Dalglish.

Good to see people at the very top of the anti-racism campaigns are speaking out here. The FA really have to think about taking some action against Dalglish and Liverpool for their actions - it sends out a message that other managers can do this in the future if they walk away scott free

I just had a conversation with a Liverpool fan who was adamant that Scholes dove more than Suarez and then whipped out a video to prove it.

It's quite amazing the bubble they live in.

All we need now is David Cameron condemning LFC followed by an uproar on RAWK....

What happened with Tom Adeyemi?

I'm seeing on Sky Sports (playing at Anfield) he reacted to something possibly from the crowd, apparently very upset and his teammates had to calm him down?

Yeah I was watching the game on a stream and the game basically came to a standstill as Adeyemi got really upset with something that was said from the crowd. Had to be held back and calmed down by almost all his teamates and the ref and even a few Liverpool players.

It's possibly jumping the gun to say it was something racist, but I assume that was your first thought too Hectic.

My first thought as well. It really should have been a big fear from the Liverpool end when putting out incendiary soundbites and statements that the most emotional and easily led fans in the league would take it all to heart.

I really hope it isn't.

They (their supporters) probably think it's ok to say 'negro' now, after the clubs stance on the matter

Yeah he was saying players from both teams went over to console him. It was my first thought, but of course it could have been anything.

Same here, have to wait and see if anything comes of it. Hopefully not.

Dalglish has awoken the inner-racists of legions of already unbalanced individuals with his approach to this situation, as evidenced by the disgusting torrents of racist bile all over the internet over the last few weeks regarding Suarez. It'snot a stretch to believe it will now filter into the crowd

Well, this now reaches new lows.

I hope it's not true. If it is the blame lies squarely at the door of Daglish and Liverpool FC.

5Live now reporting the chanting at Anfield as racist.

Chanting takes it too a new level, chanting makes it sound like it is more than a handful, obviously still a minority

If these stories are true, Daglish and the club need to take a long look at themselves
