FA Cup: Man Utd v Exeter City 8/1/05

if we continue with the same team in the 2nd half, we'll lose.

bring on smith and scholes.

Sounds poor. 0-0 at HT is exactly what we didnt want.

If this doesnt show that the quality in depth in our squad isnt good enough, nothing will. It shouldnt even be a contest.
Exeter will hopfully get tierd in the 2 half.

VN - I think you may be right. Weakness in depth.

As i said earlier if we don't wiin this with plenty to spare, then SAF has got some questions to answer about the 2nd team players. Injuries and Rooney's ban don't help though.

Think we will still win this game.Despite all the doomongers sharpening there knifes. :)

Look these games either result in 5-0 romps or disgusting slogs which you fluke in the end or a totally humiliating defeat - you really cannot tell anything useful from them - particularly when played in these conditions. Bryan robson, Mark hughes and Norman Whiteside played in the team that lost at Bornsemouth in 1984 and I think most Reds would consider them to have been OK players.

Didn't really follow the first half, has Howard had anything to do?

Exeter are using an 18 yr old kid as a keeper ffs, this should not even be a contest, are we really that poor??.

Oh come on!

We are third in the league and playing AC Milan in the CL. We must focus on those competitions.

We have a week 'til the next league match. I doubt if any of those 3 players will feature in the match against Chelsea.

Exeter looked more likely to score than us as the second half progressed. And athough the FA Cup isn't the European Cup or the league, it's still a competition that matters to me.

Sounded like Pique made a bad mistake and Howard saved him.

a conference team, playing their match of the season, isn't always easy to win against...

Or depth in weakness as we may say according to the philosophy :smirk:

Absolutely. Underperformers must be moved on a lot quicker than they are doing. It's something we haven't been getting right lately. Here's a quick list that needs to be passed on to Fergie to be dealt with swiftly:

Djemba
Kleberson
O'Shea
Richardson
Eagles
Miller
Fortune
Bellion

I'm happy with the rest of the squad but these guys can happily be replaced by 3 or 4 players of better quality.

Rossi should be given a chance. Can't believe he is worse than Bellion!

Thanks. I assume Howard is going to be taking Carroll's place from now on so hopefully he is on form.

That's the only line I agree with.

I was thinking the same thing, along with the terrible weather conditions.

Twenty years ago when we got beat by Bournmouth! Different times. Back then teams had the first 11 and the reserves. Nowadays you need 22+ good players, able to hold down or compete for a place.

Gotta say that some of our 2nd stringers don't look as though they could do this.

SAF won't want to go out of the Cup, as that leaves the Carling thingy and the CL, as the Premiership is now beyond us, IMO.

Maybe we should start thinking of the excuses now.

Weather didn't help. Crowd not behind them. Exeter's cup final, "They are all hard games David" (One of Sir Matt's).

BTW - this is done with a smile not a scowl as yet!!!

Agree with that. Chelsea's mixed team is held by Scunthorpe too. Hopefully the performance of Exeter would make our players wake up and concentrate on playing football rather than thinking of anything else. I think that one goal will open the accounter.

My point was that it was our first team that lost to Bournmouth in 1984 - shit happens - it's why the FA cup is still a special competition - let's just hope this is a frustratingly bad performance and not a piece of history.....

Sounds like poor Pique is having a 'mare of a game.

If we lose, will we blame the weather??. Cos if we don't bring the big guns on , we may well lose!!.

Oscar. Yep shit happens.

i saw us get beat by Norwich in the 3rd round at OT in the mid 60's. It was an awaful day. This was Law Best Charlton Stiles Foulkes and Co. as well!!

No, I was thinking more in terms of judging individual players performances, particularly some of the youngsters.

Need a hairdryer with all this rainy weather.... nice one SAF
