Fantasy Tournament: World Cup All-Time All-Stars

I'd asume every manager knows who scored the goals in World Cup finals?? Unless you mean Barbosa or Bigode, who are pretty much unpickable.

For me you can post a list of all available players it doesn't affect me. Was just trying to be helpful to the other managers who have whined about it before and who will be affected.

Can't decide between about 4 players. Nearly hope Gio and Tito help with the decision, Gio no doubt will

I was thinking the same. I had two chaps who I thought won't survive the next turn, why not get Ghiggia first and maybe you guys help me sort out which one I should pick next

I'm pretty easy from now until the end. Have 4-5 targets for every single role and doubt I'll go further than first backup in any.

Yeah, I know where you stand on this. Edited it anyway just in case.

Good pick anto. Though I doubt anyone but you would have been interested in him so you could have rode him for a few rounds.

My original plan was 8th turn which was about right, but when you see some of the picks so far you have to wonder. Essentially, he was far too important to me. If it means maybe getting a marginally worse CB or LB so be it, I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with what I get as I would be pretty happy with some I could easily pick in round 12. There's tonnes of cracking players available, if people don't know them then that's their loss and maybe a reason to actualy pick them!

Thing is as long as one hasn't watched the games he played in they won't really know about him would they? I haven't seen much mention of him when talking about history of WC.

Well done. How come you picked Ghiggia this early? It felt like an Anto pick in the 12th round or so.

EDIT: you already answered just above.

I think there are a couple of more known options but I think Antohan has a clear tactic he wants to use and is trying to find those players. He also highly rates single matches above average performance in that WC. So there is a case for him at least.

Because it all revolves around Varela's gamesmanship and stories of giantkilling more than the actual skill of the players involved. It's not fun to delve into how good Uruguay actually were, much better to make them sound like Wales.

Let's be clear, the last two times Uruguay had played Brazil we had beaten them. The result was not shocking ability/skill-wise, it was just Brazil being home and having just won 7-1 and 6-1 against teams Uruguay managed a 3-2 and 2-2 against. And the 200,000 people cheering against them... Look at 1954, everyone considered that semi between Uruguay and Hungary the early final (underrating the Germans, as it would turn out). How can you go into a thrid World Cup semi never having lost a World Cup game and not having had some phenomenal players?

Ghiggia didn't just get an assist and goal that determined the outcome of the final, he scored four goals in four games. Not too shabby for a winger and better than some who scored more but just got most goals in a couple of easy games against WC cannon fodder.

Yeah I saw his name along with XXX when I was reading exclusively about the 50 WC on another forum. Though I still think if someone wanted a World Cup winning South American attacking player, his name wouldn't rank that high. Anyway, I'm happy that you didn't pick the two I marked out being picked by you so I can go with one of the them if they last till me. :D

Teofilo Cubillas

Made his mark at 2 World Cups. Scorer of 10 goals overall placing him joint 7th on the overall list, all the more impressive given that he wasnt a striker and he played for one of the traditionally weaker nations
In 1970 won the FIFA World Cup Young Player Award, the Bronze Ball for third best player at the tournament, and was also named in the Best XI of arguably the best ever World Cup tournament.

Some tremendous picks. Rossi this late is a fecking steal. Never planed for him but I was getting increasingly tempted.

Cubillas I would have liked to fit somehow, it's a WC Underdog themed side after all. He made no sense in my side though unfortunately, hope you provide him with a god home Cutch.

Anyonw have Gio's pick? It was him I was most worried about. I'm almost certain he will pick one of the two I want next.

Ah ya cnut Cutch, I was just about to pick Bergomi, thinking I was safe with you already with 3 defenders under your belt.
