One of my mates said that Frankie picked the same consecutive midfield setup only in 3 out of 35 or so games. Don't know if that is true, but it's crazy as feck if it is.
Don’t think he’ll figure out his best side in time. Think his biggest issue is he has quite a lot of ‘good players’ who all want to play in similar positions — mostly midfield and attack. Got to find the balance between fielding a side that is of the best general player quality and who actually should be starting for cohesion and on merit.

What is all the nonsense about figuring out his best side? Surely if he can't do that they should sack him anyway. Kind of an important thing to be able to do when you're the club manager.

Sure. they did get the job under fortunate circumstances. They both were working at their clubs under some capacity and would have known the players already. Still fortunate. Lampard was just jettinsoned in after his apprenticeship at Derby.

Anyway,. For what my opinion is worth, i don't think Lampard should be sacked. As with Arteta, he needs more time. This time next season would be a better indication to see if they're seriously improving their teams. I would add Ole as well, but it already looks like he's improving his team.
in my opinion the person who really needs to go is Jody Morris. The build up play is far too slow, resulting in you always facing a packed penalty area. Without a player with the talent to unlock a defence with a killer pass all you have left is to pass it wide and get a cross in. Pretty hopeless tactics for a wannabe top four team.
Villa look a well balanced, well coached side, so you could a lot worse than bring Terry back from Villa.
This season is more about rotation anyway. Best side goes out the window when you're playing 10 games in 30 days.
With all the new additions, he may well be still figuring out some player's best positions or which combinations work best.
But Werner is doing what he has always done. Been a very busy and energetic player with inconsistent output at the end of it.

Lampard showed potential early on his Chelsea career as far as his approach - high press, quick short passing, transitions etc However there's plenty of upcoming managers who want to play that way and you have to actually be a really good manager too if you want to lead a club like Chelsea, and he's been a bit mediocre since the first half of last season. Spent an enormous amount in the summer and plenty of question marks over those additions too. Depth aside, I don't even feel they're better than us and I don't even rate us that highly as a unit.
Also the sentimental aspect regarding Lampard does surprise. Both from Chelsea fans and the media. At the end of the day he's at a big club with big expectations. This notion that he's a rookie manager who should be allowed to learn on the job is something I can't understand.

Lampard’s tactic is only put crosses as much as you can & if the attempt of crosses are cleared away or blocked then rely on corner kick.
I don't know how or why we developed into this cross and inshallah team but it's kind of frustrating to watch. Without consulting stats, we were far more inventive and creative last season, even earlier this season. The last truly enjoyable performance was the Leeds game.
If he persists with Jorginho and Kante in the same central midfield like today, then he's asking for trouble. There were a lot of moments where if there was any other central midfielder or 8 in the good positions Kante was popping up when Chelsea had the ball in their attacking 3rd, you'd feel like something could be created. When Havertz came on and Kante dropped into his best position, Havertz looked lost and was not getting into the same good attacking positions as Kante...which is strange and to me that comes down to coaching and expectations of players within a system/team. Havertz didn't look so lost or out of place when he was at Leverkusen (disregarding his output).
I think you were excellent to watch in the 1st of last season. Lots of quick short snappy passing to drive you forwards. Maybe Lampard is trying too hard to emulate Livepool and the big teams of the 00s with the focus on Chilwell and James being the outlets ? I mean, Abraham is no Drogba with that kind of service nor do you have a Lampard from midfield feeding off the second balls.

They're a joke. Their recent headline "Chelsea didn't beat Villa but Lampard will take a draw". Why the feck is that?! Chelsea should be expected to be Aston Villa at home. Always. It's funny. I'm not even a fan of Jose but when he called his players out they questioned his sanity. When Lampard says his lads are lazy they're like "at some point the players have to be held accountable".
But then again, nobody can take that lot seriously and watch them for insight.
The only reason to rely on full backs for creativity and crosses/passes is if you have a creativity issue within your midfield. It's what United and Ole had to do when our midfield was not able to create. Notice how this is less of an issue now that Bruno is creating, and to a lesser extend, Pogba, Mata... notice also that still, the full backs attack for us, but not as much as Liverpool.
Why is Lampard doing this? Does he think he has an issue with creating throughout his midfield? That has to be his opinion, but it's a strange one then. They have plenty of players, sure some of them are injured, but still? I am certain he has a rationale and is sharing that with the players. But it's just difficult to comprehend.
Exclude Ziyech who has been injured, Jorginho, Havertz, Kovacic & Mount. I don’t think it’s much of an issue there in term of option. Those four might not Bruno or Pogba but they have the ability to make passes to penetrate through line, and I remember watching Chelsea fans made compilation how many assists Jorginho could have under sari if it wasn’t because poor finishing issue and in those compilation lot of passes he created coming from the middle. And it’s not like Pulisic is crossing type of winger either.
In term of options, Lampard have much more variety in his squad compared to our squad. The difference is obviously the manager. One still hasn’t realised what’s the strength of his squad or may be he simply just clueless about it (who knows) while the other manager knows the strength and the weakness of his squad and choose to play on the strength to get the best out of the current team.
Always comes across so bitter in post match interviews, I don't know whether he's using it as a distraction technique to take the heat off the team. They're always the better team.

We were fine earlier this season too, maybe someone more analytically inclined than me can explain it better, but creativity through the middle may have been the trade off Lampard made for defensive solidity. We started scoring goals again after the two scoreless draws, and seeing that put me at ease because the big talk around that time was 'can Lampard find the balance between parking the bus and the gung-ho attack' but just looking back through the goals we scored since then, maybe just a handful of them have not come from a set piece or a James, Chilwell, Ziyech cross - in fairness, some of those crosses have indeed been a result of creative play through the middle, including the goal vs Villa - but the general play tends to always gravitate to the wings and from there we either cross it or recycle possession towards the opposite wing.
Ziyech appears to be a big miss in general as he's great player but he is our most creative player and he's only started 4 league games.

The inconsistent results cost him his job, lasted a little longer than I expected, surprised Roman didn't pull the trigger a little sooner! They'll have a much better end to the season though and will look much stronger next year when the new signings have had a proper 12 months to settle. Frank leaves Chelsea with a 49.12% win rate in the league and a 31.58% loss rate. Ouch. It was always going to be an incredibly hard job at Chelsea though.
